Insejn
Artist: Broken Toy Title: Broken Toy Label: Alchemy Records Year: 2005 Tracklist: 1. In a Dark, Dark House 2. Fragile 3. Girls and Boys 4. Slaphead 5. Fucking Machines 6. Psycho Bitches 7. Toys Just Wanna Have Fun 8. Speedfreakz 9. Tortured Brain - The Raver (Broken Toy Remix) I looked forward to this album for quite some time now. I have really liked his tracks on various compilations. And this album was no let down. Extremly well produced with crystal clear sound. A very modest and mature album. I guess it fits in the full on category. But there is something in his music that catches me and gets my attention. Is it his great, powerful and groovy basslines? Is it the sounds and fx that fits so good with the basslines? Is it his thoughtful drum and percussion work that completes these things and creates 9 truly good tracks. That must be it! I'm stunned by his choice of sounds he has in his tracks. I don't know what makes me feel that way, maybe his music . Melodic in some way. Screamy from time to time. Evil when it the tracks catches that mood. Balanced breaks, cool buildups. And I must say it again. His basslines rocks! I've have listen to this album for 2 days now so I might be blinded. Anyway...South African artist rules Final Verdict: 8/10 http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/alc/alc1cd015.html

psydmt
This is good really good-some of the tracks have just the right amount of full-on ness and not too much more to give it real dance floor stompness. This has been the best of 25 new cds I have received in the last 3 weeks.

Subsonik
Yeh it's crazy innit? Some of these tunes or lyrics have gotten completely glued into my mind since I heard them. I'm getting bored of the tunes even tho I'm not listening to them! Arrrhghghg! It's great stuff I must say, nice and fresh. To be seriously overcritical and at the risk of sounding like a bastard, I find that it doesn't really fit into psytrance that much. It's sounds so dancy that it could almost be club music. NOT that it's a bad thing, I'm just saying. The fact that I have these tunes stuck in my mind proves me that it's not very psychadelic at all. I can't remember how any other psy tunes go but I can pull almost all of these songs out my head at random. Still - awesome piece of work, I like it very much. What's that lyric? Boys and girls.... something about toys? Real porno huh.
N2O
A great release indeed! Fr once in not annoyed by the lyrics since they are very well used. A breath of fresh air which sure is needed in the psy scene. He better come to Denmark and rock the floor soon

I love this stuff bouncy and funky with nice twisted melodies! 8/10 Favs: Girls and Boys, Slaphead and Fucking Machines Worst: the remix... delars
although this album is a lot "lighter" than his older releases, i can still appreciate it. Psycho Bitches is the one i like most. Some tracks however are too soft and sound too 'israeli' but dispite that i think it's a good album. But i like his first releases more.... Boys and girls.... something about toys? Real porno huh. 250887 WHAT? So, what you're basically saying is the following: the more coherent the melody, the less like psytrance it is. Umm. Where did you get this idea from man? Granted, so many of the shitty ass released that have come out this year all sound the same, are practically melodyless, and are mostly dark, one might get that impression. 3 years ago there was a lot more melodic psy, not this boring stuff that sounds like someone layed out a bassline then rolled around on their synth (which seems to be all the rage right now). Since you can't usually pick out a psytune, what does that tell you? It should tell you that most of the psy-artists today have no unique qualities, and are all putting out the same stuff. I agree with you on not being able to tell the difference between so much psy, that's why it bothers the hell out of me. Anyway, I thought this album was awesome because it was original. Not only was it original, but I liked it too!
Subsonik
Dude, b4 u go ahead and flame me like that, go back and read what I said. Where and when did I say "the more coherent the melody, the less like psytrance it is?" How can you just go ahead and stick words in my mouth? I am well into melodic psy. WELL into it. And like I said anyways, I really like this album.
TheCreamFilling
So, what do you mean by "dancy"?
Subsonik
By dancy I mean bouncy, very structured - almost formulated. Like I said dude, read my post and dont be reinterpretting what I say into completely different meanings. And another thing - I didn't say I can't pick out a psytune. I said I cant easily recall tunes in psy tracks. That's the idea. Psy is meant to confuse your mind. Are you farmiliar with what the term psychedelic means? Here you go - just for you I pulled it out of the dictionery: psychedelic - adj. Of, characterized by, or generating hallucinations, distortions of perception, altered states of awareness, and occasionally states resembling psychosis. Now, I (and I doubt anybody) feel the obove mentioned psychadelic effect from club music. Not that I'm saying this album is clubmusic. I said it's veering in that direction. Now I see little point in continuing defending myself to you in a thread that's meant to review this album. I'm not calling it a bad album. I fully support Broken Toy. I'm a South African myself and I love the scene that's growing there. So stop disputing over something I'm not even arguing about and find something else to gather your post points with. ponds
I thought it was pretty good, a lot of the tracks were really nice. Could do without the fuckingmachines.com samples though, seriously, WTF? This probably ruined the album for me. I'm not a prude or anything, but I do not see how samples of a woman talking about a sex toy add to the album. FrozenRealm
Hahaha well the song "fucking machines" is quite nice actually, uplifting and bouncy ;D Hmm.. this cd is nice! even with some of those strange samples
RAH
Hahaha well the song "fucking machines" is quite nice actually, uplifting and bouncy ;D Hmm.. this cd is nice! even with some of those strange samples 255155 Ha i was just thinking the same thing "fukin machines" and 'toys just wanna have fun' are probably MY highlights of the album. I didin't find myself listening to it too much after the first couple of weeks though. Which is not the artists fault, is just personal tastes i guess. Lost
It's good but not psychedelic... it's great for dancefloor, but it has not any psychedelic senses... It's like a new way in psytrance...
TheCreamFilling
Subsonik, I couldn't care less about my post count. Since you wanna pull definitions out. Lets discuss how you cant even interperet the definition you posted. Just because you have an altered state of awareness or "psychosis" doesn't mean you lose your ability to recal detail. As a matter of fact, most real psycho's have an accute ability to recal exactly what is wrong (what they think is right). Sooo...you posting that definition only backed me up. Since you're the one brought it up, who's the one with 90 posts? me? or you?
Subsonik
Dude, talk to the hand... really. Let sleeping dogs lie and stop bikkering like a child. Everything I say you bend and warp into different meanings. I'm not referring to psychos. And where the hell do you come up with this data that most pschos have great memories? And do I care? Does anyone? Look 2 posts up and you'll see that somebody else has exactly the same opinion as me about how 'psychedelic' this album is. Obviously you don't seem to understand that. end.of.story. TheCreamFilling
Subsonik, you're as "childish" as you say I am since you keep responding. How about that? I'll leave this reply here to see if you now must be the one to have the last word, lol. I think it's funny how upset you seem. Relax. PS: you seem to not even understand you're own "argument", because the definition that you posted clearly refers to psychosis, hence my reference to psychos. I can keep doing this forever man, It only takes like 20 seconds to type up these messeges, and you seem so steamed. Take a chill pill. Lemmiwinks
Good God how can people praise so much the South African full-on is beyond me... So it's a LITTLE BIT less formulaic than israeli full-on... but that's it!! Again we have a CD full of mediocre stuff and 2 standout tracks: Fucking Machines and The Raver 6/10 (at least it's better than the new Rinkadink IMO)
