i love the early days of psy trance and i mean the era of goa trance.

i also like some of the tracks of the millenium-after period.

there has always been quality, talent.imagination and intelligence in this genre.

i blame nobody but i have a fucking question for you all:

why did all these legendary artists[...........]change their style in more progressive technoish patterns and mostly why do they create these dancefloor tracks without telling the story and the meaning through them.[cause i feel that there is no meaning and no story in these tracks]

i think that goa had lots of future and the way was in front of them.........

why was this change made?

after all it's a culture and now unfortunately it is fading away!!!!!!!!!!!1

i wait for your answers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ritual_om this has been discussed very recently on this forum, you may like to check some of the other topics for previous answers.

But it's up to people like you to keep it alive. Keep buying this music, keep playing this music and most importantly keep making this music. If nobody is making the music you like I'd recommend rolling up your sleves and getting into producing it yourself! Peace.

why do all these artists change thier style?

because this new style is better thats why. it must be....all the top artists who know what thier doing are geting into it.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

sorry.

actualy...i do think its better....but thats just my opinion...to me its better.

"and mostly why do they create these dancefloor tracks without telling the story and the meaning through them.[cause i feel that there is no meaning and no story in these tracks]"

well sorry there ritual om, but there are lots and lots and lots of people and more everyday who see these stories very clearly. i personaly think the stories are clearer than they used to be when they were all hidden behind a wall of arps.

Just another point of view...... :

Try to imagine yourself as a Goa-Trance artist.....

WOULD YOU LIKE TO CREATE THE SAME STUFF FOR ABOUT MORE THAN 10 YEARS ????

I don`t think so....... and your favourite producers think the same, I hardly believe... They aren't Robots..........Are they ???

So I think it's a good thing that they experiment news directions.....

It's up to U to open your mind.....

Cheers

Ciao ciao

Nobody has consistently produced good music forever. Think about old Pink Floyd, Yes, Metallica, Gastr del Sol, whatever. Gotta keep looking at the new folks.

bugbread,

how dare you! everything pink floyd ever did was a god damned masterpiece.

if they made an album of nothing but the sounds of thier own bowl movements...it would be the best album of the year. in fact it would be the best album since thier last album.

'Relax', "Its just a Phase' 'You'll Grow out of it' (FNM-Caffeine)...

I think Goa is in the transistion phase where metal/hardrock was around 1985 when speed metal crushed the old with extremities untill it was replaced by the much cleverer and imo musically appealing Seatlle Grunge Scene.

Hope the same scenario applies for Goa cause I don't think this is a very exciting period musically with all that recycled techno stuff...

I am over here and i suffered various changes : After years of giving you Indian Gods , colored nuns , wizards , mushrooms, astral trips and hallucinations ,some Swedish guys re- invented me to really @!#$ with your minds , then some dreamers re-invented me again to be more acsesible in the Radio .

I dont want to disapoint you but you have to understand that i am contantly evolving and if you want to stay with me you will need to be more open minded .

Sincerly

I would like to start by saying to Ritual Om that I agree that if no one ever did a Goa style album again it would be a crying shame. That style has tremendous power and is very cosmic. BUT there is lots of other directions that the music can go. AND the music will constantly evolve and branch into new methods. It seems to be a human trait that people find something that appeals to them and think that it is the best thing or even the only thing that is right. YES it takes alot more effort to look at a new way of doing thinks and truly try to see the value in it. That is not to say that all ways of making music are equal but it a shame when people judge before they take a walk into a new prospective. Lots of people here in the U.S. wont even begin to take a look at music that doesn't follow traditional methods.

I.E. Rock,Country,Jazz Exc... and it is sad that they have limited themselves so much. The artists and listeners of this MOVEMENT have decided to stay in MOTION. AND yes part of that motion is exploring deeper into styles that have been done before like Goa. Into other style outside the scene like Jazz and Classical and even styles like the dreaded TTTechnooo. It is also important that when this looking back is done that these styles only bring influences and not that the artist copies them. It an artist is creative they use existing structures and also build new ones. So please take a deeper look into the music of the now and think in this way and maybe some of the stuff you thought wasn't so good will come to seem better. (The only constant is change)

I agree wholeheartedly with you Red Headed Stepchild. Music is only art if it is allowed to be FREE! If it is bound by formulas and preconceptions it is no longer art, it is dead, only a relic of the past. Now of course I am not talking about individual compositions, which I believe can be timeless, but of the movement in general. So you want to know how to make sure that Goa-trance never dies? Don't choke the life out of it with binding formulas and preconceptions. The new sounds bring new life into the music and also give the older sounds room to breathe. If every artist only followed the ways of the "original" music then where do you think we would be? The answer is...that we wouldn't be anywhere. This music wouldn't even exist. The early Goa-trance artists would never have done anything different from the primitive electronic music which they were exposed to at the time and thus Goa-trance never would have evolved. Actually no music could have ever existed, because all music has evolved from music that came before it. If you try to stop this evolution, you kill it. Art is very much like a living thing, and like all living things, it must evolve in order to survive. I don't believe that Goa-trance is dead and I don't think that it will ever die; it has its nitch and in filling that nitch it has a purpose. But I think that it would have died if other approaches hadn't been introduced. It would have stagnated and the whole thing would have collapsed in on itself. How interesting would it have been for the artists and listeners if nothing new had been introduced into the music since its beginnings. New ideas bring new perspectives to something old, and they create variety which opposes stagnation. This is a good thing. Music which is only self-referencing cannot survive. In a changing world, music that cannot or will not allow some change, is doomed to extinction. Mabey instead of putting all of your efforts into trying to keep the music from changing, you should relax and allow your mind to change along with the music.

yes i do believe that. that is how a lot of it sounds... arps arps arps.

i am niether a "newbie" or a goa hater...if i hated it....why would i be here?

i dont claim to be anythng more than what i am....a guy who listens to goa/psy trance. a lot of it.....for the past 4 or 5 years. if in your mind that qualifies me as a "newbie"...so be it.

"they have a better quality in the sound and they are more complex."

yeah...thats my point. thank you.

"but they lack of feelings and they just make want to dance.furthermore they have no actual and organic flow(no story guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)"

just because you dont get a feeling or a story...that doesnt mean its not there. you cant prove a negative so you cant say its not there. im telling you it is...i get a feeling and a story...so its there. and a whole lot of other people get it too...thats why its popular. they sure as hell meke me want to dance, i see people dancing to it all the time. the floor is packed.

"sorry but then every track had it's own identity now everything is alike with each other"

hhmmm... i have no probles hearing the difference....perhaps you should pay more atention?

bugbread,

the final cut happens to be a very good album. i grant you its a little vauge given how they released it. it was supposed to have been the third disc of the wall. listen to the wall and then the final cut right after...it will make more sense that way.

Hehe...Well, different strokes for different folks. Still, I hope you'll agree that Dark Side, Wall, etc. are superior to their recent albums?

oh... of corse.

wish you were here and animals cant be touched.

2 of the very finest albums of all time...in my opinion.

as a side note,

if you did not already know... the entire wish you were here album is about syd barrett. if you listen to it knowing that every song is directly about syd ...it takes on a whole new meaning.

a side side note:

nine inhc nails's album - pretty hate machine is about tori amos. she is the pretty hate machine (the title make more sanse now...no?). again listening to it with that knowlege is quite a different expierience.

Ohhh...Not again... This topic is gonne kill me =)

Hmm...Ok, well some people like the old stuff and some the new, and thats the way it is... And if you want it to change, then change it! =)

Personally I like 96-98' Goa more than Minimalistic Psy-Trance...

I hate the word Newbie. It has such a superioristic tone about it. Which goes back to a post I responded to about scenes in general.

Every Pink Floyd album I have ever heard is remarkable. They are true geniuses. My favorites, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and Umagumma....

As usual, great post Peaceful Warrior !

PsyTrance is remarkeable. And like all GOOD music, it evolves and grows. That is what separtes psytrance from say...pop music. Slap happy N'Sync horseshit to be exact! Pop is processed, packaged, merchandise. Nothing redeemeing or intelligent about it. It is always the same. Which is part of why it sucks sooo badly!

Ouroboros (in our own private conversation here, eh?):

I'm always dubious about the "It's about Syd" thing, because I've heard the same about Dark Side of the Moon and about The Wall. I'm willing to believe an album is about him, but three? After all, this is a band that kicked Syd out by just NOT PICKING HIM UP ON THE WAY TO A GIG. Sad, but also somewhat amusing.

But, I suppose there's a kernel of truth there. It can't be just coincidence that they wrote so much stuff about people losing their minds and also had a member that did so.

In my opinion, the stuff they wrote about Syd (stuff about insanity) was much better than the stuff they wrote about Water's father (pretty much anything related to the war).

But all I wanted to say is that NOBODY keeps up their high point forever unless they die young, before the quality can go down. So people should stop looking to old goa masters to keep producing the good stuff, and look at the new guys.

hehe....

yeah.. i never heard of any other albums thet were supposed to be about syd.

but you have to admit...wish you were here fits syd perfectly.

the words in shine on you crazy diamond...hell the title alone is obviously about him.

every song on that album.....they all tell a little story about syd.

i mean the song wish you were here

"did you exchange..a walk on part in the war...for a lead role in a cage"

a direct refference to him being in an institution. but every line of every song fits in as being about syd. like i said..i never heard that any of the others were about him... and the wall and final cut are all about waters and hs father...i agree with you there..the other stuff is better.

np---- nothin i turned music match off.
