Charismatic DJs

What DJs have you found the most visually interesting? Who have you found your eyes glued to during their sets? (Note, live shows don't count, only DJs, it's too easy to be dramatic in a live show). And, importantly, why?

For me:

Matteo (from Loopus in Fabula): For dancing really oddly throughout his set, in a very definitely NON-psy way.

Raja Ram: The first time I saw him, I thought, "Cool, this DJ's an old man"...Then, when the music was twisted and he was sweaty and grimacing and playing an imaginary violin in time with the music, I thought, "This wizened wizard dwarf is pure evil"

Olli Wisdom: For just dressing really oddly.

As you can see, I have a fascination for "odd" over "cool".

NP: Nothing - at work

Mark Allen plays his set and if you don't know he is a DJ i'm sure you will think his playing live

FrankE plays kinda funny too

Olli Wisdom takes the cake... the general demeanour of the guy is just out there & I've never seen anyone outdress everyone at a party so consistently

np - Hyper Frequencies: "the Lost Generation" (on a mix by DJ Eckoe called 'La Folie Des Anges')

James Monro! He is a born party machine, the kind of a guy who could walk into any bar or any party and walk out with the most beautiful girl there in twenty minutes. The guy just looks so damn good and is so damn funny, and he totally gets into the music and the mixing and dances hard. Not the spastic dancing of talamasca, who looks like he's just chomped down on 17 e's, but hard dancing that is also groovy and fun.

Most pivotal psy label boss with a torch in his mouth is enough for me.

NP: Bugger all (at work.)

I agree with Russ about James Monro; Tristan is pretty much in the same category for me, he doesn't act like a loon (which I enjoy as well ;-), but he is a big man with a big presence as well.

Juan Verdera!!!

The only time i saw him I got really scared when i got near the stage. I tought we was going to collapse or something. When the music we was palying (really melodic stuff) reached those mind twisting climaxes we would draw things in the air with his hands, and we was all shaking and complety filled with sweat, dripping from his forehead. Just Wako!!!

And portuguese DJ Paulo, he is blind and ist really odd to see him select the Cd's and dance. :)))

Bansi form GMS, he headbangs to Spliff Politics, and screams the samples at you, I've never seen a DJ put out more energy. He' really is a growling mad scientist!

Bansi? Every time I've seen him live he's seemed relatively subdued...But I feel a special affinity to him because we have the same haircut.
