It seems that more and more artists begin to prohibit exchange on the ag site ...try infected, space cat ,shiva shandra, elysium and recently dark soho!!!!

Do you think it s the end of the site? This site was pretty cool to pre-listen an album and to judge the quality of the stuff ,pretty better than the 32kbit of psyshop.com or saikosound.....

hey if those guys wanna block their stuff from AG that's cool.. i wont be buying their music anymore probably - i've been burned far too many times by blindly purchasing new material from artists who USED to be good.

no big loss really ;)

I fully fully agree. What a shame, but I know why they do it. You know who is really fucking us all? The people that listen and don't buy. If it weren't for them, the artists wouldn't have to block, and we could test first to avoid the huge dissappointment when the product does not match the expectations.

but how can anyone only listen to mp3??/ the artists are becoming too money minded in my opinion... guys who only listen to mp3, wil never buy the real cd.. its not in their nature.... anyway whatever... all i can say to the artists is, man chill out.... the old days are truly gone, artists now want to increase sales by tring to sell bad album,,, for eg. manmademan album.. i would definitely have bought this, but after heaing it on ag i didn't.. so now they want to fleece us... GREAT..

that is not the end for sure, it's only the begining of something new, like Napster, was the hot shot then AG came and changed everything... It's only the begining.

I won't care if they find a way to let us try it first without relying on USELESS 30 second pathetically LOW QUALITY real audio sound bites. For example: they could distribute medium quality mixes (heavily mixed) with mostly new material and some old stuff whenever they release a CD, like that AP mix floating around. I will buy their new CD because I heard that. I liked the sound of the newer tracks on it, but I can't just burn the individual tracks of it and not buy (not that I would anyway).

or maybe the artists could put samples on the internet (like some all ready do ... cut pieces out of the songs but still have a good quality ... its a way to find out ...

It doesn't bother me as long as it doesn't bother the artists who's records I won't be buying as I can't preview the tracks.

Who is really fucking us all are the record labels. Not so much with psytrance as much as more popular genres, of course, but still... The main "value add" they provide is distribution. The internet has changed the way distribution works. The artists and labels need to embrace this change, not fear it.

Hope this does not lead to a long and pointless argument about intellectual property rights, but i could not resist chiming in.

It is probably the distributors, as I am sure the artists don't give a hoot. A true artist would rather see that the music get heard and appreciated. Money is secondary. Producers see the reward of their efforts on live performances mainly and the harder they work on that the better the reward. The artist actually get such a little % from record sales that it is not small % that download would affect the loss.

Now why don't the artist sell a limited stock of their own music at parties without the distibutors/retail mark up?

Uh, I don't think P2P networks can go to hell...I mean, they aren't sentient, and I doubt that software would realize that it was in hell even if it was...Plus, it's not organic, so it can't rot either.

Well I can only speak on my own behalf.

Yes my music is blocked on AG but you will be able to listen to new releases on my soon to be ready web site...so what's the difference?

No you will not be able to download the music but you will still be able to listen to the full tracks in stereo (better quality that most tracks from AG) before you decide if you want to buy it or not. So isen't that good enough for people to decide if they like the music or not? For those who do not think it's good enough I am sure they are the ones that would never buy any CD anyway!

fully agree with EP ...

that sure IS good enough .. imo every label should put their stuff on their homepage .. then we can still decide whether u-it's good enough or not , i can't decide if i like a track only when listening to 45 sec. of 32kbps crap ... certainly not ...

I realy hope more people will follow your way of introduction ...

psy bye

I can tell you that Avatar's new website will have this feature.

But in order to let people listen to all releases in full it would take a massive server (100 GB +) which is quite hard to fin for a reasonable price.

So the solution will be to stream 2 min's teasers of each track from the last 5 releases (or so).

I think that 2 min's tracks are more than enough in order to be able to decide if you like the artists CD and the sound quality.

And on artists sites it should be possible to let people listen to at least the latest 2 CD's in full and in a good stereo quality (with Flash MX you can now compress full stereo tracks (around 8:00 min's) down to around 1.5 MB each with very little quality loss).

I hope that alot of labels and artists will make the music available this way in the future. then we could get rif of these endless arguments and just enjoy the music.

By the way to those of you that think that we the artists are so greedy. I am sure that you guys make more money on your daily job than we make money from our music. Yes a few artists make good money. The rest of us (95%) do not make a lot of money. So please do not accuse us of being gredy. I can tel you that I did not make any money for all my releases on Nova Zembla and the rest of my releases on different labels did not even meassure up to a normal 1 year earning that people make in a normal job.

Those artist that actually make a living make most money from travelling their butt's off most of the year playing at different parties. Then you properly say..yeah lucky you....but imagine always having to travel (even when you're sick) and never being able to stay at a place more than a few days. It's very stressful. On top of that the artists have big telephone bills ect. because most of, them conduct their own bussiness and if they or the organiser cancel a gig they are not always able to pay their bills.

Most of you live your lives with some sort of security such as a job ect. and you properly have a girl/boyfriend that you see almost every day. Think about the artists lives. They can rarely afford to bring their girl/boyfriends and many relationships do not last because of the artists busy travel schedule. On top of this teh artist must constantly live with "strangers" in different countries even if he or she does not like the people and the artist ahve to put up with all the friends hanging around 24/7. To sum it up: "No private life" and a very risky income.

Hopefully I have made it a bit more clear that it's not just a walk in the park to be an artists.

EP please spare us the sob story. We could all sit her and cry about the downside of our jobs but your doing what you love so please spare us. We know that nothing is a walk in the park. Youre not fuking traveling the world cleaning shitters, ya know?

EP it is hard to say if your site is a good substitute for a 192kbps full-length mp3 without having seen it, non? ;)

as for the 'walk in the park' thing, well come on... its obviously worth the tremendous rush you get from it... and besides, why cant someone work a regular job to handle the essentials and do their music as a hobby.. you all have to be miserable pros and we have to feel bad for your chosen path?
