So now it's a sob story ?

What a lame way of responding to people that have a different opinion than you.

I can only go about this subject refereing to own experiences and those artist's experiences that I have spoken to.

oa you say that I sit here and cry and that I basically should shut up and love it. Why should I love the travelling part? I don't love it anymore and have never really loved it! yes the parties can be great but for me (and otehr artists) the travelling is a pain in the neck. And yes I do know for a fact that many other artists don't enjoy it as much as you think they do! When you travel or go on a holliday I am damn sure you travel because you want to. Well when you have this as a job (yes it do become a job eventually) you can not always choose to say no (if you want to pay your bills). - I have choosen to stop playing but I do know many artists that dont have anything else to do (or fell it's all they know) and are dependent on the income. They still travel even if they do not like it anymore. So please do not insult me and tell me that I am a "spoled" brat (my interpretation of your posts)!

What do you know about it anyway. Have you tried it? Do you speak from your own experiences?

To basilisk: I am sure that you will agree that a 384kbps (and above) full lenght audio track is better than the one you mention. This is the standard audio file which will be on my site soon. Guess you should check it out before you start to reject the idea! Or maybe you just want the mp3's on your harddrive to prevent buying the music?

About the walk in the park - Again how do you know if I and other artists get a "rush" out of travelling? I sure do not get that anymore. Yes it's cool to have music as a hobby but some of us do have a bit more ambitions (at least I do) and would like to take it a bit further! But I am sure you find that to be wrong too - and too commercial for this scene!

It seem to me that oa and you are seeing this from your own unexperienced perspective and do not at all have the right to sit and judge me and my opinion. If you had the experience of travelling as much as some artists do (me included) then I would take you guys more serious...Sorry but at present I just think you enjoy having an opinion that's as far away from mine so you can get a argument going!

EP: I agree, if there's a long (2 min) listenable track, that should be enough, and anyone who complains is probably the kind who wouldn't buy anyway.

Clive: ARGGH!! I'm sure you're a nice guy, but you're the kind of DJ that drives me NUTS! How can you tell ANYTHING about a song in 30 seconds? Maybe the beat and a few instruments. I am convinced that most of the recent trend towards really minimal music at non-psy events is because DJs buying records listen to so little of what they buy. I see it at music stores all the time: a DJ goes to the listening area with a stack of records, listens to 2 or 3 ten second sections of the song, and then decides what to buy. Then they play it on the dance floor and it's 5 minutes of "Boom-tsh-doom-tsh-Boom-tsh-doom-tsh".

OA: Relax, I don't think he's bitching about his job for the sake of bitching about it, but since so many people think that an artist wanting enough money to buy things like bread and gasoline is the same as an artist being greedy, he's giving the counterpoint: artists who don't tour get to starve to death, even if they produce great music, and artists who tour in order to eat don't have lives full of limosines, posh hotel rooms, and caviar dinners, either.

On a side note, since when have people started assuming that musicians make so much goddamn money, anyway? My image of goa artists was always people who make so little of their work that they have to have day jobs as well, or start up their own label just to make ends meet. Then I read all these young whippersnappers talking about musicians being greedy...I don't get it. I'm sure most of us older listeners (no longer in university) make the same amount or more than, say, Dark Soho...So why don't all the young kids call us greedy for working? Come to think of it, I'm sure KS and Lespagnol have done part time jobs before...Were they greedy, asking their employers to pay them, or did they do the right thing and turn down their paychecks?

First of all i dont here people saying the artists are greedy.

Maybe a few people but really i think all of you who say that are taking it out of proportion.

EP dont even talk to me about 'unwanted' travel cause im sure I've "been there done that" 10x more than you dude. Anyone whos been in a seagoing service knows about unwanted travel and i will gaurentee your 'gig trips' are exotic vacations compared to that.

I still want to know who all these people are that think the artist are greedy. Cause i really dont know who your crying to about the 'horrors' of being an artist.

ep, its like the story of the guy who went to his doctor and said "doctor, it hurts when i do this" and then he contorts his arm around and touches a weird spot on his back or whatever.. so the doctor says "then don't do it!"

if its no fun, why bother?

as for your site my comments remain unchanged... how am i to know until i see the site? you're insinuations that i just want mp3s on my computer are as ridiculous as someone saying all artists are greedy. haven't i made it clear i spend far more money than i'm supposed to on this music? i find mp3s, sure, but thats just because they're a convenient way of previewing the music. maybe someone else can walk into a store and hear something once and say "that's for me!" but i seldom have that impression. you of all people should know that goa trance in particular is a kind of music that must sometimes grow in the mind...

i could ask the people of this site, do you not have albums you completely love, that, at first listen, you wanted to return to the store? i have tons of those kinds of albums... orion's metamorpheus comes to mind. took a while to sink in but now i love it. even a site with high quality audio isnt necessarily gonna make me purchase - i'd have to go back to the site again and again perhaps, if the sound doesnt strike me at first. but - i will concede that such a thing is better than banning the mp3s from places like AG -and- not doing anything else (cuz then i definatly wouldn't purchase, no doubt). so really, EP, i don't strongly disagree with any artist taking themselves off of sharing services. instead, i take a practical approach and state that in my specific case (since i know no other), it is the artist's loss, not mine. do i hope to change your opinion, EP? no - i don't care to. you do whatcha gotta do :)

but yeah.. if producing is no fun just remember, no one's forcing you. if production is fun but the money isnt good, get another job (or freelance, or something). i think the main point is that the talented artists are more free if they choose to be, depending on how the arrangement works. "its the only life they know" is a poor excuse for passing on responsibility for one's own destiny.

basilisk where did I ever say that producing was no fun? I said that i did not find travelling fun and that I and many other artists do not make a living out of our music in this scene...Dont twist my words or make up your own version of what I am saying!

Uh, in this thread, lespagnol & KS.

In older threads: Bioman, The Brain, Goazz, Sudh1r, PK, mE, MPD, Rabbitakis, Mugge, etc. They aren't generally the regulars, and although I don't know their age for sure, the amount of misspellings combined with grammar mistakes that are common to native speakers, not non-English speakers, indicates that the average age of most of these guys is pretty young.

It's not like we're swarming with people who accuse the artists of being greedy; they are but a small group, but it seems like every time there's a discussion about MP3s some new guy pipes in with "the artists are greedy", or, my personal favorite, "the artists should thank us for distributing and popularizing their music, even if we don't actually pay for it." I'm just wondering: where are these guys coming from?

Yeah bugbread you make me laugh cuz I don't know the signification of the word "greedy" but I will search it for sure in the dictionnary.Excuse me to be french man,and not to talk a perfect english....but I don't accuse the artists in this thread. For example every releases of bne have been protected so It s the initiative of the distributors.

as long as i can preview them on some other websites i am happy...

bugbread.. man please stop over stereotyping and generalizing, i don't think in that way at all... i was just pissed that i wouldn't be able to preview tracks before buying them anymore.. and please don't abuse my english skills, i think i have studied the language enough... i think it is a serious waste of time checking posts on a forum for grammatical and spelling errors .. you can't judge someones age by their writing skills anyway...

dude i hate anger, fighting, bickering etc.. so lets drop it.. and btw.. jonas from lb, thinks exactly in this manner.. read his interview and see his response to mp3s... you will see his is talking my language... laterz...

Huh?

"the artists are becoming too money minded in my opinion"

I assumed that this sentence meant that you thought artists are becoming too money minded. Did you mean something else by it?

i knew you would bring that up..... read the whole damn paragraph.... this is a straight case of forcing an argument..... anyway if you just want to vent on me for the sake of it, then go ahead and do it... maybe you are superior to me becaue of your high moral attitude... but dude whats the point? you and me will both die someday, so this one upmanship on each other is not my cup of tea/./ any more caustic replies will be met with silence.. i have better things to do with my time, than spend it arguing with someone on a site that is all about the music i like,.. i hate politics and thats that.....

and anyweay since you have made an opinion about my age, musical tastes and morals by looking at a few lines of what i wrote, i think you are beyond my world of thinking, so bye.....

Look, I'm not trying to one-up you, but here's the whole paragraph:

"but how can anyone only listen to mp3??/ the artists are becoming too money

minded in my opinion... guys who only listen to mp3, wil never buy the real cd..

its not in their nature.... anyway whatever... all i can say to the artists is, man

chill out.... the old days are truly gone, artists now want to increase sales by

tring to sell bad album,,, for eg. manmademan album.. i would definitely have

bought this, but after heaing it on ag i didn't.. so now they want to fleece us...

GREAT.."

Sorry, but it really looks like you were saying that the artists are greedy...They're "too money minded", they "want to increase sales by trying to sell bad albums", they "want to fleece us"...That to me means greed...So where didi I misinterpret? I'm not forcing the argument, and I'm not trying to be caustic or political. I have no idea what your musical tastes are, and never said I did. I have no idea what your morals are, and never said I did. All I said was that recently there's an increase in people saying musicians are thinking too much about money and being greedy. That's what you said, in your own words.

As for the age comments, those weren't directed at you, nor were the grammar comments...Read my post more carefully, and you'll find that I'm not attacking you personally...I was referring, in general, to about 10 people (plus any others whom my search missed). Hell, the only reason your name even came up was because a few people demanded to know who had said artists were greedy.

I don't quite understand why you're so angry...You said artists were thinking too much about the money...I said that recently people think the artists are thinking too much about the money, but my image of artists was the opposite...Then I said that when you work, you probably think about the money, too, so it's natural for the artists to do so as well...And now the whole thread seems to think I'm some sort of monster.

What, exactly, did I do wrong?

o.k i see your point... chill, i was just pissed about some money going out of my pocket.. same way artists do i guess when we download mp3s... i am defintiely greedy in my own ways.... but after accepting this, i have one thing to ask everyone... aren't we all greedy to some extent?, so then whats the point of denying it....

i see the error in my ways though, but even if they are greedy, so what? i agree with that line of thinking....

but one message to EP, don't you think giving unreleased promos to select djs is wrong as well?, fix that and then you will defintiely deserve respect..... right now the artists are playing a double game... this is an honest enquiry, and i just want to hear your views on it....

but all in all i see the error in my ways.. defending that first post is an impossible task as i see,it, there was too much passion and anger behind that one...

i guess that its my young blood bubbling too much in that case..

KS: You've restored my faith in the phorum ^_^

I think we're all greedy, in a way, or if you want to phrase it differently, we all have our own interests at heart, and that's healthy. I suppose the problem is excessive desire, not desire itself.

KS I agree that all people are greedy to some extend.

To answer your question about DJ promos:

No I do not see anything wrong in giving out promos to selected DJ's. Why should I? It's my decision (it's not my decision to give my music away for free on AG) and a damn good way of promoting a release. What's wrong with that? - If you were a DJ that I though was the right DJ to play my music I would give it to you too. There's nothing obscure or double standard here! It's a way to promote your music that's all! Comon business sense. I honestly do not get your opinion on this matter!
