Time_Trap
Artist: Jess M Album: Digidelica Label: Shiva Space Technology [... ] Released: Nov. 2002 [ So move it to the 2002 section ] Style: Ambient [with lotsa Didgeridoo ] Tracklist: 1. Uruq al shaiba 2. Hednisphere 3. Whipstick 4. Coitus 5. Drumming air 6. Lemon Petals 7. Cloud stalker 8. Tarn 9. Wild islands 10. Heavy grain 11. Cherrytwister =-=-=-=-One-by-One Track Review=-=-=-=- 1. Uruq al shaiba 6.29 The album starts very nice with a beatless ambient track, didgeridoo is one of the main elements of course... 2. Hednisphere 6.36 Some flutes[?] play a nostalgic melody, the bass sounds are really good, and the percussions as well... 3. Whipstick 2.39 Didgeridoo solo... one word: KILLER! 4. Coitus 7.13 This one starts more electronically, but some traditional percussions and the didgeridoo sound give it an ancient touch.... nice mix between past & future 5. Drumming air 3.42 Another [mostly] didgeridoo solo... piece of art.... the digital editing/mastering/fx make the whole result even more awesome.... 6. Lemon Petals 5.48 A much more melodic one, starts with some sort of strings... the vocals become a bit irritating and cheesy after while[but i am sure some of you will like these vocals - i mean, wtf... you even like shpongled vocals... :D ] 7. Cloud stalker 5.37 This track is closed to electronica, there's even a 4/4 beat & a electronica bass along with the didgeridoo of course... This track is rather a chill one... 8. Tarn 5.32 The guitar melody along with the didgeridoo background sound are the main sounds being repeated all over the track... Nice feeling one this one, might trael you away... 9. Wild islands 10.43 This one starts with pretty impressive/mysterious/ethnic vocals but the kick/bass that enter feel a bit out-of-track, they dont fit very well...the panned percussions are really good however, and after a while you get used to the kick. 10. Heavy grain 6.27 The 3rd didgeridoo-solo-kinda-track in this album...No more words needed 11. Cherrytwister 6.19 This one has a nice distorted kick, but i think that the general sound of this track doesnt fit the rest of the album... Nice track, just a bit uexpected/inappropriate for an ambient album... =-=-=-Conclusion=-=-=-=- All didgeridoo fans should definitely check it. The rest should give it a listen, even if it's not their style... Favorite Tracks: 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 , 10 Final Verdict: 8/

vnvmod
the coitus track was a bit disturbing. they could've used better and/or subtler female samples there.

Time_Trap
having got more into ambient now i have to admit that i might have been a bit overenthusiastic about this one.. heheh so instead of 9/10 i gave it 8/10... but you'll probably enjoy it if you like didgeridoo. LLB
First of all, i would like to say this album was released in 2002 & not 2003 => http://www.discogs.com/Jess-M-Digidelica/release/87987 SST was very courageous to release such an album focused mainly on Didgeridoo & i'd like to thanks thern just for that . Didgeridoo has his charms, secrets and inconvenients. This instrument can be at time catchy, hypnotizing, bewitching and other times monotone or boring. Indeed, all depend how it is used : mainly solo or in a more global construct harmony with others different elements. For tracks 1,3,5,10 which are only digeridoo, it's sure that's more difficult to listen except probably for didgeridoo's full lovers. When instruments are added like in track 2(flute), 4(voices ,percus),6(guitar, singer 60's or 70's psyspirit), 7(synths), 8 (harp ?), 9(voices, samples billow & more instruments),11(bass,guitar,percus), it becomes easier and enjoyable to hear. My favourites are Hednisphere, Cloud Stalker, Wild Islands(not ambient indeed). In a second order : Coitus,Tarn. Mark :7/
