DeathPosture
V/A – Schlabbaduerst 007 Artist: Various (Sweden) Title: Schlabbaduerst 007 Format: CD-R (jewel case) Label: Schlabbaduerst ReKkords (Sweden) Cat. #: Schlab 007 Distribution: listen.to/Schlab Date: July 2005 Track listing: 01. 07’47” Battle Of The Future Buddhas – Amor & Psyche 02. 08’26” Ka-Sol – Fucked Up 03. 09’41” Battle Of The Future Buddhas – AM Radio 04. 08’10” Ka-Sol - Whalebacktrack 05. 08’35” Battle Of The Future Buddhas - Natt 06. 09’23” Battle Of The Future Buddhas – Sick Circus 07. 07’57” Exakt Abstrakt - Hellraiser 08. 11’09” Ridderna Av Döda Hundens Kyrka – Jetta Power 09. 08’48” Duck Off – Mozart Firefox Review: We’re on an express elevator to hell… Going down! After waiting for more than a year since last year’s ambient compilation, the new Schlabbaduerst offspring is finally ready… And this time it’s 100% hard-core night music… D-Dave has carefully selected a bunch of tracks from his deranged Uppsala mates – and the track list looks impressive as always… With four new Battle Of The Future Buddhas tracks, this is as close as we’ll come to a third BOTFB-album for now… Oh goody! Alright, enough with the chit-chat – I can’t wait to dig into this… Let the freak flag fly! Let me take you thru the tracks… #01: Battle Of The Future Buddhas – Amor & Psyche [146 BPM] “I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass – and I’m all out of bubblegum!”… D-Dave kicks things off on this deep, wobbly forest anthem… This is hardcore night-time music – just as you’d expect – with haunting arpeggio melodies and sick, frantic pads… A monstrous track – designed to fuck you up… I love it! #02: Ka-Sol – Fucked Up [145 BPM] Blimey! Christer ‘Lulle’ Lundström blew everybody away with his monumental track on the Suntrip Records compilation Apsara released a couple of months ago… And I’m happy to say, that Lulle stays on the same path here… Oh yes – this is equally raw, distorted, frenzied night-music from the deepest forests of Uppsala… The twirling acid-lines, the pounding bassline, the haunting synth lines – all so ultra-dark and über-trippy… Fucked up indeed! Smashing track! #03: Battle Of The Future Buddhas – AM Radio [146 BPM] “We’re on an express elevator to hell… Going down!” More no-questions-asked-full-power from the get-go here… D-Dave is a relentless nihilist that doesn’t waste time with long, boring intros… The radio-theme is expressed through various well-fitting voice-samples adding to the overall trippyness of this tune…Add a trademark demented Schlabb-melody, and you’ve got a winner… #04: Ka-Sol – Whalebacktrack [145 BPM] Another intense track by Lulle… This time with spacy electro bits and pieces – kinda industrial, but still drenched in psychedelia… The demented synth-melody here is constantly evolving, seeking new directions… The synths go hand on hand with the eerie FX creating a truly haunting atmosphere… As always with KAsolarium – this is a HUGE track – a big wall of sound, designed to scare the living shit out of you! Yeah, this is one scary ass ride on the back of a whale… So dreadful it’ll make you sick to your stomach… Brilliant! #05: Battle Of The Future Buddhas – Natt [148 BPM] Well, if it wasn’t night already, it definitely is now… This is one of the fastest tracks here – galloping away at an incredible 148 beats per minute… The bassline is blunt and downright mean – kicking up some dust alongside another batch of haunting, freaky melodies… Hard-core night music to be played during the darkest hours of the natt… What the hell is that sample in the lead anyway? – Some bizarre cut-up, spooky voice sample… What ever the hell it is, it freaks me out… And we all like getting scared, don’t we? #06: Battle Of The Future Buddhas – Sick Circus [147 BPM] “What do you see when you’re in the dark and the daemons come?”… As the title suggests, this is another stroll down Bizarro Street somewhere in Uppsala… Though this is also a fast-paced, darkish track the bassline isn’t as shredding here – but the surrounding FX take care of that… An array of weird, twisted, haunting FX guaranteed to send shock-waves through any trance-floor… This is like the soundtrack to some perverted clown porn movie… Sick circus indeed! Maybe even a little too sick for my taste… Naaaah – it’s still miles above the vast pool of generic music out there… But be careful out there – this shit is intense! #07: Exakt Abstrakt – Hellraiser [145 BPM] Exakt Abstrack is Lulle from Ka-SoL hiding under another one of his aliases… And he’s raising hell here… Seriously, this is horror-trance – guaranteed to scare the living shit out of you… An impressive rhythm-section is messing with your emotions on many levels – whilst the trippyness is kept intact by the squelching sequences of synth-galore… So fucking dark, yet so melodic at the same time… A melodic full-on nightmare of sound and colour… Fuck me, this is AWESOME! #08: Ridderna Av Döda Hundens Kyrka – Jetta Power [145 BPM] Fucking aye – it’s time for the oddball track… By the aptly named ‘Knights Of The Dead Dog’s Church’… Apparently some of these sounds were recorded from Marchaos’ VW Jetta – fan, doors, engine, radio, vipers + the knights themselves screaming like madmen… Add some Skinny Puppy samples and industrial mayhem, and you’ve got Jetta Power! A very, very experimental track – truly underground – just like we’ve come to love it from Schlabbaduerst… Sick shit! I never thought I’d hear myself say this, but a part of this gets too hectic for my taste – for a while there its pure industrial noise… There are some very interesting elements here though – I’ll give the freaks that much… ;o) #09: Duck Off – Mozart Firefox [150 BPM] “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a fist stamping on a human face - forever!” Duck Off is Dj Ifan and Procs - the first non-Uppsala artists ever to be included on a Schlab compilation… What an honour – but if anyone can pull it off, it’s them… I’m especially impressed by the works of Mikael ’Procs’ Stegman and can’t wait for his upcoming album on Trishula Records… Anyway, this is one hell of a track – the fastest here… Insanely fast, pumping away at an incredible speed… As the title suggests, this track incorporates the structure of classical music into a frenzied mayhem of forest trance… This is the shiznitz – true psychedelic trance in its most underground form… I mean – just check out the “Fly me to the moon” surprise ending… Amazing! 100% Shroomadelic… A monstrous track! Sweet mother of Ghandi – this is the sickest, most repulsive, hardcore bastard-child ever to come out of Sweden… Seriously, words don’t do this justice – this is a powerhouse of a compilation… Packed to the rim with hard-hitting, gut-wrenching monumental tracks… It’s doesn’t get any more underground than this – phew, what a ride! This is by far the most intensive compilation I’ve heard all year… And I can’t really imagine what can top it… The Schlabbaduerst crew have their very own, unique take on psychedelic trance and IMO this is the best they’ve released so far – and that’s really something, ‘cause these guys have released some absolute corkers! Anyone into darkish, deep, demented night music straight from the underground does not want to be without this compilation. agia_igoumeni
first of all the release of this years schlab is one of the important moments in this "label" history... for all the schlab freaks out there...number 7 means a lot to them..as u all know number "7" is a very special number through the history of mankind,it conciders the human relationships with curses, magics, sorceress, dark & evil humans & generally a big relationship with the uknown... (even the most kitch heavy metal group in the history of the music..one day they told su about the seventh son of their son...i dont remember sth like that..) LOL as a schlab freak the last 5 years i was always have in my mind the question if the schlab series will made it until number 7...and finally yesterday i gave her my first listen.. IT'S FUCKIN EVIL...its in the original upsalla veins that schlab1 & schlab3 show us the way to real dark cholesterole twisted forest psychedelic industrial trance.. total holocaust!! i love to hate and i hate to love this pure old-school tunes.curses & sounds from the JA-DOORST dungeons...(by the way for the others filteria is old-school..lol) the battle tracks are classics from now as well as the hellraiser track...HEY LULLE BIG kisses!!! but my favourite one for another time in the schlab history records is the doda hundes kyrka track...pure skinny puppy atmospheres...really frozen... the dog is dead BUT STILL BARKING!!! ps: do u have a problem? Guest
I think Schlab 4 and 5 were better, this one goes a bit too far into just being a complete racket in places which is very punk I guess but I need to hear some semblance of a groove there which seems to be missing from big chunks of a couple of tracks. Gutty
The samples sound interesting, especially the first one, but Mozart Firefox sounds fucking incoherent. I know dark is synonomous with incoherence and chaos, but this is brutal. I hope the full song is more interesting. The sample is a drone with a couple of high pitched noises. not my idea of psychedelic.
Gnome
Ok after a few listening.... I just want to say that i didnt except good BOTFB tracks.Dunno why,and it doesnt matter. What matters is that especially Amor & Psyche and Sick Circus are two awesome Schlab tracks, exactly the way it should be ! ..... to the forest then .... Hey...Dave...dont stop
Jon Cocco
"I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all outta bubble gun..."Ha! That sample in the opening track is a famous quote from John Carpenters cult-horror movie THEY LIVE. It's a twisted-dark kickass movie. Find yourself a copy and see it sometime! Well what can I say??? I finally heard 4 minute samples for one of these schlabbaduerst things... It pops up every once in a while on the boards and I always wonder, "Schlabb? What the heck is that, some hardcore dark stuff by some unknown artist or artists and label?" It's nice to see it on saikosounds. Anyway, on the saikosounds tracklisting I noticed 4 tracks by BotFB... Wow!, that is like interesting... are all those BotFB new tracks? I assume they are. That rocks! Well the first track, Amor & Psyche is pretty good. I like it. Agreesive, dark, moody, catchy. Like being pulled down some dark tunnel. It's heavy and brooding and full of character. The Ka Sol track Fucked Up is kinda cool. I like it. It's got this hyper-esque feeling to it, thanks to a catchy aggressitve melody in it. Very fast and animated. Ever since the Apsara comp I started to keep an eye on Ka Sol, and I find their first track here far above their second. Track 3 by BotFB ... AM-Radio sounds decent to me, not bad. I like the first one more so far. This seems to have less character, substance. It's as distorted, altered in sounds, etc.. as before, and it seems to develop decent character when all these layers of what appears to be melodies come in. Samples. Then it seems to repeat loop from beginning which is where I kinda wish it became something even more chaotic yet interesting and more developed. Track 4 by Ka Sol ... this is starting to sound like little too harsh for me, and I listen to NIN sometimes. This however is not my cup of tea. I don't find it crazy or wild (like some Xenomorph) as much as noisy, squeeky, harsh.. I like dark and twisted too, but this is just too harsh and noisy to me. Give me some catchy melodies to help lift me up out of the cloud of chaos. Maybe that wasn't the point however. I like well done melodies, dark or light, thats all. Track 5 by BotFB ... Sick Circus, is so repetitive sounding to me. Yes they alter this sound, pitch that sound, add effects and distort shit through different filters and sound tools, etc.. but the overall song sounds repetitive. Can we get more melodies, dark melodies, like Sand Man Witch Craft but new and different for these dark comps? That would be cool, make it more catchy. Track 6 by BotFB... Natt, hmmm... maybe I forget that their style is just very repetitive overall and you either dig it or you don't. I kinda like it here, but I wish the song change more. It's like they added samples over the same looping for quite sometime. It's like, c'mon guys change the location, make it more interesting... Track 7 ... what the hell? This sounds like I want to throw up blood all over the freekin kitchen counter, lol... Christ, talk about NOISY, harsh, repetitive, like a laundry spinning around and around and around... if you like this, fine. It's freekin annoying as heck to me. Track 8 ... yeah no. One word. Repetitive. This has a very annoying paper-cutter or saw-like sound. It's harsh, irritaing, and just not enjoyable. Sure it has a gritty tone and all, but seriously, does it have to be so damn coerce? Track 9 ... I'm really trying to be open-minded here. I really like Scatterbrain, Dark Soho's first two albums, some Xenomorph, and BotFB TS album... but this last track is not psychedelic, it's just noisy! It's all over the place, scattered, loud, and twisted, but twisted without good flow or composure. it's just irritating. Ack.. make it stop, next track? is there a final really good track to close this comp? A real killer ending to a pretty good start??? In short, I feel that this dark comp starts off pretty strong with a heavy, aggressive, driving, opening track. It gradually seems to lose it'self and maybe get a bit too experimental (incoherent I feel, maybe some of you say chaotic...) somewhere after the first 3-4 tracks. I really like some of what I heard, (the first half) and I wish the second half was as enjoyable as the first half. The final track, along with the one before it, are both terrible and just incoheren sounding in my opinion. I love good dark music, like Darshan and Penta - Pentafiles cult-classic albums too, and some of it on this Schlab comp is just too noisy for me. Maybe this is just not my taste or style. This is why I rarely buy comps. You may disagree and love this stuff. It's rough and hard and dark, and I'm not complaining there. It's also got potential to be better than it is. (every damn track could be great if they really worked it and got better artists for the last several tracks) I know that I like parts of this comp, especially the opening track and the several that follow. BotFB was a smart choice and I wish this comp ended with a powerful, dark, ambient down-tempo track by them, like the great one on Twin Sharkfins. That would have really made a lasting impression, but alas nothings perfect. I think if they work on raising the quality on all tracks, (make more strong, intriging tracks like the first, second and maybe third one or 4th one) and create more dark melodies and less harsh noise while still be heavy and strong music, I'd like it more. Of course, maybe the point here is to be as harsh, loud, and twisted sounding as possible. That's fine. I think some artists like BofFB in general (on this track list) have better direction and are more catchy and enjoyable to listen to than almost all the others. Hopefully the next release will have all good/great tracks and end with a bang, and not some (myself included) listeners and reviewers seem to feel is an incoherent whimper.

Nefarious
The seventh in the colourful series that are the Schlabbaduerst comps. Seems Dave and co are harking back to the first and third comps with this one. Not as brutal throughout, but certainly towards the end. Four B.O.F.T.B trax, plus a smattering of the usual Schlab' freax. An appearance by Duck off is a welcome addition. Its just so great to have another one of these rare gems in my collection! I've been giving it a fair Ol flogging for a few weeks now and its just blows me away each time. I love the crusty sound, the brutal beats and generally the whole Schlab style. The series so far has traversed some varied ground and given us a taste of the unique Schlab sound in each comp. Now we're back to da heavy shit!! I enjoy all the tracks, and switch daily to a fave, but AM-Radio seems to murder me consistently. Three great samples from three great movies, Aliens, Blade Runner(perhaps the best) and Fear and Loathing. Supremely hypnotic it weaves it way inside to induce that tasty state. Ka-Sol - Fucked up also the same. Massive cheers and beers to Schlabbaduerst ReKKords crew and all freaks involved.
