seraph
So, I imagine that more than few of you have heard about Front Line assembly guys, Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber and theirs ambient output first set back in 1987. With that project they made 11 albums, all of them some kind of different between each other but with the same feel you GET from Delerium. In the beginning they were purely dark, gothic ambient group making 5 albums in such style, they were raw and their production wasn't that crispy but the music itself was AMAZING. Those early experimenting with electronic music in underground, dark ways have never been interpreted before and they were truly unique for that time. They made following albums : FACES, FORMS AND ILLUSIONS ( 1988 ), MORPHEUS ( 1989 ), SPIRITUAL ARCHIVES ( 1990 ), SYROPHENIKAN ( 1990 ), STONE TOWER ( 1991 ) and those 5 albums are true masterpieces of subversive, pagan, demonic and angelic worlds and I like them all equally. Maybe FACES and SPIRITUAL ARCHIVES would be the best ones there. Then comes next phase, more spacey, cosmic driving stuff. They changed the style completely, and made more acid oriented albums, for tripping or chilling. 2 albums in such style were SPHERES 1 ( 1994 ) and SPHERES 2 ( 1994 ), both reviewed here cause of theirs ambiental spacey structure. After those albums they decided to expand their views and put some vocals and earth exploration feel to it. Next 2 albums SEMANTIC SPACES ( 1994 ) and KARMA ( 1997 ) are very good ambient dream pop albums. They are still not in such commrerical realms as their next 2 ones. Now this 2 are their worse, for my taste at least. POEM ( 2000 ) and CHIMERA ( 2003 ) are rather commerical and with heaps of singing. Here are almost in every single track endless singing and such funny commercial feel that I simply couldn't enjoy them in a right way. So, I am really sorry that these guys turned commerical too but they at least have 9 solid and very good albums behind them and has given a lot contribution to electronic world. They also produced and mastered *SYNAESTHESIA* project and made to me the best 3 ambient albums of all time : EMBODY ( 1995 ), DESIDERATUM ( 1996 ) EPHEMERAL ( 1997 ), three very natural, generic, organic albums EXACTLY made for tripping as the name of the project suggest. * EMBODY - 10/10 DESIDERATUM - 11/10 EPHEMERAL - 10/10 * FACES FORMS AND ILLUSIONS - 8/10 MORPHEUS - 7/10 SPIRITUAL ARCHIVES - 9/10 SYROPHENIKAN - 8/10 STONE TOWER - 7/10 SPHERES 1 - 10/10 SPHERES 2 - 10/10 SEMANTIC SPACES - 9/10 KARMA - 8/10 POEM - 5/10 CHIMERA - 4/10 What a descending... seraph
Yes Shaft...it's one from the last album...completely different than music they made before...so, don't trust that 'cheap' sample...
Shaft
I liked the chill mix of it... it's on one of the Classic Chillout albums. I'll check out their earlier stuff then, sounds right up my street.

Halosian
Front Line Assembly has always been one of my favourites ever since I discovered them in the beginning of the 90s. And FLA is one of few bands that has become even better ever since (Try the album Epitaph). Delerium and Semantic Spaces really blew me away when I got the album 94. But my favourite Delerium is Karma, one of my favourite records. It's so beautiful, highly recommended!
Dragonflier
I got hold of the "Spheres" albums after reading your reviews seraph, and I must agree that it's amazing stuff. The Synaesthesia work is also magnificent. Haven't heard much else from Delerium though, except some of the newer commercial stuff, but maybe I'll check out some of the other cds as well. And btw seraph, did you get my pm?

Yes, they are the same guys, with much more progressed ambient style than with Delerium.

Halosian
They are currently working on an upcoming album called “Nuages du monde” and is released on September 18, on Nettwerk (and Playground for Scandinavia). http://www.nettwerk.com/artistpage.jsp?artist_id=3 Meanwhile, Bill Leeb and his merry men are continuing their tour with Front Line Assembly, and will reach Europe very soon. I'll see them in less then two weeks, yay! Regarding the new Delerium album: "A departure from the more traditional verse/chorus like song arrangements of the last few Delerium albums, Poem and Chimera, Bill describes this new album as a return to songs that are more journey-like, in some cases more worldy and exotic and in other cases quite electronic. There will be a variety of vocalists featured on the album but in most cases they are singers that shine in non-traditional music." From what I've heard, back to more "Karma-esque" sound, yay (again)
