Ormion
URANTIA RISING Sanskara 2004 TRACKLIST: Tundra-Fuzzy Logic Hydraglyph-Isis Crisis Corona-Modus Shift-Twilight Phyx-Silversurfer Artifakt-Left Foot Soundslut-Aural Sex Hydraglyph-Scarabs & Toast Link-Silicon Sun Style: Morning/Hard Full On This is the first release by Sanskara records based in South Africa introducing the well known SA artists like Shift,Phyx and Artifakt, some newcomers like Tundra and Corona and four tracks from Hydraglyph and other projects by them. The first track is by a new artist called Tundra, combining SA hard full on standards with more melodic, morning style. It’s a nice track with nice melodies and powerful bassline, nothing outstanding though. Next are Hydraglyph with Isis Crisis, a track that appears in the brand new Source comp. remixed by Shift. It has some very impressive fx, perfect for headphones and a powerful smashing bassline. The problem is that sometimes it becomes a bit too clubby for a SA style track. In the last minutes we get a sample from a popular latin track, funny moment but not great. Ok track. Another new group, Corona with the track Modus. Ok this is 100% Israeli morning full on. I normally dislike that style. I find it way too cheesy, clubby and uninspired, but that track is above average. The melodies are really colorful although a bit cheesy and the fx production better than most of the Israeli full on clones. A good track for morning parties. My fav artist follows.Chris Hoy with an another stomper. Typical Shift style, smashing beats, phat snares and hi-hats, twisting fx and cool melodies. Not that complex track like the ones in his album Excession but a very good tune, powerful and twisted. Another Timecode guy and again one of my heroes in the scene today, mr.Phyx. Hard full on beats with an industrial touch and superb production combined this time with really schizo melodies. Not his best tune but one of his best for sure. Another master of the genre and king of alternative full on, Artifakt with his smelly Left Foot. What a track! The kick is lighter than the usual and the gothic, dark melodies have given their place to some super emotional, beautiful morning ones, far away from the epic cheesyness of Astrix & co. Awesome track! Next is Soundslut project of Hydraglyph, kinda like track 2, a combination of SA hard style with the Israeli morning standards, kinda boring and simple but an ok party track I guess. The same goes for Scarabs & Toast, powerful bass and kick, some fx madness in the first minutes but too clubby for a SA artist. Last track is another one project of Hydraglyph. This time is 70% morning, clubby full on and 30% SA style but I have to admit that I liked this simplistic melody of this track.Ok track again for a party. Overall an ok-and above the average for sure-compilation with some great tracks from the Timecode crew (Shift,Phyx,Artifakt) and some nice ones from the rest. Nothing unique though. 6.5-7/10 Fav:4,5,6(!)
Trance2MoveU
"We are still here!" Yes, but why? The bassline in Isis Crisis is too obnoxious to take and a lot of the full-on isn't anything to write home about. Love me some sHifT, but I bet even he would say this wasn't his strongest track. And it was the best one on here. Ormion nailed it though when he said it would fit perfectly on his Excession album. I really like the South African style, but this stuff doesn't really hold up to other albums from other South African labels. But sh*t man...it was 2004, so...I ain't mad at ya.
