Afternoon all

Thought I'd introduce myself before I started posting (only polite eh!?). I've been into dance music since about '96 - a mate at university started sending me home made compilations with things like Eat Static, System 7, Man With No Name etc... I've been utterly hooked ever since!

However, I got more and more into the harder side of things when I started going clubbing around '99 - got more into hardhouse, NRG, hardcore and sort of lost sight of psy along the way. Started DJing during '01 and have been doing that ever since.

Then I went to the Glade festival this year, and was completely blown away by people like Tristan, Hallucinogen and Eskimo. It just sounded so much fresher and exciting than any of the hard house I was buying - and the production standard was amazing in comparison. I also really, really enjoyed the set from the guy from Nano Records, Ens I think he was called?

So, I am now totally back into the swing of all things psy - have bought some CD's on Nano, the Eskimo album, some of Tristan's stuff and Hallucinogen's 'Twisted' album.

So, greetings to you all - will be posting on here from now on, and hope to contribute to the board in whatever way I can.

Cheers

Andy

Haha! I know what you mean, but there are some excellently produced hard house tracks out there. Maybe they don't contain the complexity of psy, but then again that's deliberate. Check out Dom Sweeten's productions, he's half of OD404 - his production is superb.

yeah, i saw Superfast OZ live (the OTHER half of OD404) back in....2001 i think? but he seriously kicked ass. OD404's quality is more techy and with excellent production. but 95% of HH is utter rubbish.

Agreed, Oz is one of the best DJ's I've ever seen play out - really knows how to play to a crowd, and he is technically superb.

Also, I've been told that the purists don't really like Eskimo -

why might this be the case?  Is it because his sound is quite commercial?

ASSkimo is crap. besides the fact that he, himself is an idiot. his music is shite too. too formulised and "playful"? it sounds childish basically. look for some of these tunes of you want hard psy.

Kindzadza - Mars Bless U

Psykovsky - Last bus Madras

CPU - So it begins

those are some good stomping tunes.

Why is he viewed like that? What has he actually done to give himself this reputation of being an idiot? Not trying to stir anything, I'm honestly keen to know.

i don't think anybody can give a convincing answer regarding that question, so all i can say is... if yo enjoy it thats cool. You probably enjoy because there are a lot of similarities in the production with hard house material. One too many breaks, big build ups, very similar style from one cd to the other, not enough variety, people in these circles are ridiculously demanding with with their music... hehe... thats how the wheel spins... and it's all about taste... so... simple as that :)

Watch him live. watch him jumping up and down REALLY and OBVIOUSLY enjoying his music a lot more than anyone else on the dancefloor is. He is a kid who is only famous because his dad owns Phantasm records.

and he is ginger.

Yeah, forget about Eskimo, he is funny, talented but copycat kid.

If you really want to revive your old forgotten days ( which I am confused you stop with listening to it at the best years...;) ) ,then check various sick, demented, chaotic, emotional masterpieces from 1994-2000, then continue to some mdoern stuff...

There is plenty from all years...I was writing heaps of best releases replies and can't do it again, you just check red highlighted albums and compilations at the review section and you'll quite get the idea... ;)

You can see that Eskimo has talent, but most of his stuff is utter rubbish.

However, I'm not surprised that you were hooked by the Nano sound. This has been my fav. label for a long time. You simply can't go wrong with their releases. Quality is the word. Sadly, their last compilation doesn't grab me as much... I'm hoping it's just a blip on the radar screen.

As was recommended above, there's lots to explore, both oldshcool and otherwise.

Welcome.
