Strumpling
in my opinion, Classical Mushroom was thier "peak." Unfortunately, they've slipped off-course, and it doesn't look like they're commin back. Ooohhhhhhhhhh weeeeelllllllllllll............... more room for Simon I suppose ;-) -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- lets hope HE doesn't lose his touch... ooo thats a scary thought! ! Guest Smaug
We shall see with there next album coming up this August. If they can pull off another good album then in my book they will be the best all time Psy Trance group period. For me, I've enjoyed each and every Album they have put out. Pure Masterpieces. Guest Mike D
I like all of theri stuff, and personally find The Gathering to be their worst album. It sounds like something 3D vision came up with in their spare time, just a bunch of squelchy tunes, and the sampole from Independence Day, it just makes me piss myself laughing, why not have a remix of Boom Shake The Room on it as well? I think B.P Empire is an absolute gem, it is very much a matur elabum and it is very in depth and very dark and scary. Classical as well is good but better to hear loud at a party than at home. Guest bugbread
Just came back from an Infected Mushroom live show (this morning, actually!). Their new stuff is similar to BPEmpire. The vocal tracks, which I was pretty scared were going to be crap, actually work. Basically, they went from being absolutely amazing to just being very good. By the way, I talked to Erez before the show (for about 5 seconds), and he said that the new album is definitely probably going to be a double album (definitely probably?) Guest Slidingtrancer
B.P. Empire is sexmusic as someone said before.... well artists evolve and sometimes they evolve in a way we don't like. But let's be honest, isn't this heeps better than acts like GMS and Astral Projection who haven't changed anything in all these years? BTW, Dracul absolutely rules in my book. Guest peaceful warrior
Well I have to say that I disagree with most of you (aside from smaug and Mike D's comment about B.P. Empire). Infected Mushroom haven't degraded and if I had to say one way or the other I would say that I like their newer stuff even more than their older stuff. I was one of the people who started listening to them when The Gathering came out and it completely blew me away (and still does). Then Classical Mushroom came out and I couldn't believe that they created something which was as good or mabey even better than The Gathering, yet was not just a rehash of the same ideas. Then we have B.P. Empire which is probably the biggest change for Infected Mushroom. Before I bought it I heard so many bad comments about it which I wondered about since Infected had just put out two of the best albums ever back to back two years in a row. How could they go so wrong? What I discovered is that they hadn't gone wrong, only changed their style in a significant way. B.P. Empire is a masterfully crafted album; overflowing with style, depth, maturity and unique musical ideas. It remains, in my opinion, one of the greatest albums in the history of psychedelic trance. It wasn't as dark as most of their earlier work and so some people say it is soft or fluffy and accuse Infected of trying to make "easy listening psy that sell fast". But I ask you, are you saying that unless music is really dark it can't be taken seriously and that it must be crap. I personally would hate to see a world where all musical expression must be limited to some narrow band of the emotional/sonic spectrum. I want the artist to be free to explore any and all of the range of psycho/emotional musical experience. And as far as Infected only doing a style of music to sell more records, well frankly I think that is bullshit! Of course every artist wants their music to be experienced by as many people as possible; music is a type of communication and the more people who you can reach with your music the greater and more powerful is that communication. But there are other considerations for an artist such as the need for personal growth and the freedom to express in unlimited ways the creative energies and ideas bouncing around inside of themselves. This need is one of the driving forces of all artists and especially the very creative artists. Infected Mushroom is an excellent example of this; they have constantly tried to expand their music making skills and explore new sonic territory. Unfortunately, fans don't always keep up with these changes. The artists are sometimes more creative and open-minded than many of their fans and so they leave behind many of the fans who want to stay behind in the past listening to the same thing over and over and over ad infinitum. So if Infected's only care were to sell as many records as possible, and judging by how many people want them to keep recreating the same sound and style of the first two albums (who were disappointed by B.P. Empire), Infected should have, if the theory were right, gone back to making music in the previous style so that they will not lose all of their album buying fans. But this is not the case. They continue to explore new territory, knowing that they can't make everyone happy and that many fans will be left behind. And for the record, the new stuff is more similar to B.P. Empire than the older albums (of course! it is the more recent album), but it is again a change of direction. What I have heard of the new material is just amazing. I can't wait for the new album! Infected aren't "selling out", they are doing what they have always done: creating intelligent electronic music that always offers up something new for your mind as well as for tearing up the dance floor. I hope some of you expand your taste to include some of the amazing new music that Infected Mushroom are offering up.
Guest bugbread
Hmmm...yeah, I think it would be best said in reflection that Infected Mushroom went from making music really well in a style I really like (Classical Mushroom) to making music really well in a style I'm neutral to (BPEmpire). It's like Tony Hawk becoming a kick-ass soccer player: if you prefer soccer to skating, you'd like his later stuff, if you prefer skating to soccer, you'd like his earlier stuff. Peaceful Warrior: I dunno if it's just me, but I find BPEmpire to be much darker than Classical Mushroom. Anyone else? Also, Amen about the "selling out" thing. Everybody says "IM sold out on BPEmpire", but since everybody likes the Gathering so much, then the best way for them to go after money would be to keep making The Gathering-style music. The fact that they made an album that was completely different would seem to be the OPPOSITE of selling out.
Järsimähäiriö
People calling them sell-outs probably base their opinion on the fact that BP Empire sounds more "fashionable" and "modern" and things like that. Anyway, the resaon I don't like it is simply that it sounds like pure crap to me, sell-outs or not.
