Guest
Hey I need a little advice on organising an outdoor party from people in know. I heard from one group of people that the generators used to power outdoor machinery like cement mixers etc aren't compatible with lighting and sounds systems. Something to do with the power output being variable. Now, I think these guys were bullshitting me, trying to sound knowledgable, because I don't even know any other types of generator to exist. Anyways any advice on organisation and/or the generator issue would be very much appreicated. Thanks guys, -D
amphiton
Everytime we organized an open-air we we used power from a building ~100 meters away... About generators - bullshit I remember I was at a party deep in the forest, so they used generator and everything worked fine. The only problem was that you had to refuel it every 4 hours so you need a big fuel tank.
Rupture
I'm organazing a party too for this saturday...about the generator stuff, there are energy extensions with a over load protection system...they stabilize the energy too and they are not too expensive... don't forget a fire extinguisher!essential if some small fire comes up around the party area...well,i don't remember anything more right now, wish you all the best
dmtree
some larger welding generators will require a power conditioner if you want to clean the power/run sound on it. but if you are using smaller generators - anything under 20-25 kWatt - you should be fine. Now don't forget to bring gasoline cans and to check the oil levels before you start it up. but don't quote me on anything.

furthur
The newer generators all have a switch where you can choose if you want variable output or not. Howerver, at our last party a lot of the lights blew anyways as a result of the generator, at least that is what the lights guy told us. The sound was fine though. Best of luck. Snapinho
nice one man! forest-parties are the best... except for beach-parties maybe! our first party we organised was in a forest as well.. it all depends on the generators you have but i think the generator for the sounds DOES have to be stable. sorry i can't remember exactly why but it does matter for the sound, because the levels of energy seem go up and down quite a lot and therefore the generator needs to be able to cope with that... for all other things like light and stuff we used a different generator, just a small one, don't think that one really matters... and yeah, we did have to refuel every once in a while but thats no effort whatsoever and TOTALLY worth it. the police even came by at 11pm already and after a while decided we could continue if we cleaned up the place afterwards. forest-pix
Guest
Hey thanks for all the advice guys The pics of your forest rave aren't working for some reason but I'd love to see them. We're trying to make this as much a festival of art as a rave so right now the main thing I'm worried about is if the cops shut us down; and whether these art student types will respond well to the killlizzarrghs I wanna play on the rig
seraph
I threw party this weekend in woods and there was between 100 and 150 people. I played only goa and psychedelic trance for 6 hours and I can say that it was pretty successfull party considering there wasn't that many drugs and people were generally very relaxed and cheer. I am planning to make occassional parties like that, for the best friends, different crowds of friends cause those kind of small gatherings are always nice for meeting new, relaxed people and making nice friendhips... I hope your party turned out good too...
Rupture
the party we made this weekend was very cool...everything went well, enough drinks, food and drugs ...the only shitty part was the generator who drunk like 5 litres of gasoline in 3 hours,so we had to be constantly over it...I played from 10 Pm to 12 Am,started with some proggy, then stepping to the dark sounds, made live act from 4 to 5 am,dj set again with some dark and alien when the day was coming up...then some friends played cool and nice full on until 5 pm...the people was enjoying i think,it was supposed to be a party with 50 friends but it ended up with more 100 people I didn't knew...a friend of mine disappeared during the night (he taked way too much lsd) but we found him again at the end of the party, sleeping in the woods 5 km away from the party spot.i wonder what he was thinking personnaly i'm not so fan of drugs anymore, but i eated some mushies and it was cool, good trip in the end it was very good,a cool way to celebrate the 19th year in this planet.an advice,if the weather is hot bring lots of fire extinguishers (dunno how to write it properly in english) cuz we had 4 fire situations and we were close to call the firemans department... well,i'll post a link the pics here once i get home... cheerss!
