Simon Posford

We have had this discussion many a time. I think personally that every single artist is great, and that they all have that special feeling, it is just that Simon somehow manages to get it right every time. Also, I agree with Elysium, and some of my friends who a re producers here and perform live regularily, he seems to be better at manipulating samples than creating new sounds, as he often says on his songs; sonic manipulation by S. Posford. This not to discredit him, he is amazing at what he does, but I have found many artists I would consider musically as good as if not better tahn Simon. As far as whacked out twisted music goes, he is probably the best, but in the whole genre` of alternative trance, I'd say he is on the best in his little section, along with Infected and the other old school European producers. You cannot compare him with the newer progressive/minal techtrance, it s just way to differnet and to do so is being silly, becuase they are from two seperate backgorunds, Simon was there at the start and alot of the minimal acts only popped up over the last 4 years. Simon Posford is and awesomeprpducer, and if the rumour he is coming out this year to Melbourne is true, then I'll be there and so damn excited it is not funny. I just don't get why he has to be judged as the be all en all of psy trance and ambient when there is so much more, and I get sick of this talk of 'The God Of Psy Trance', and to say he is the best eletronic music producer ever is the biggest load of b.s I've ever heard, I be he himself wouldn't consider that, I mean, Isee advertisments every week for international electro acts and dj's out here saying "The No.1 Producer And Dj etc etc'. Just let him be, let him make his wicked music, and stop over playing his skills, one day he'll just stop, to old or bored and no more Simon Posford, and then what? You all gonna stop listening to the scen coz, oh my god, the king is dead!! Hehehe.

I wonder what Simon would say if somebody asked him who "the best" is?

you're right Mike D. I think simon is the best psytance producer together with Koxbox/saikopod, but to say he's the best electronic artist is a major over-statement. For exemple The Orb or Plaid kick his ass.

Simon Posford ... is most defonately one THE most talented musicians alive today. He could have been a producer in many genre's of music (fortunetaly for us it was psytrance)

He's music is VERY intellegent (which is the main part), the layout is always great, the fx is always perfect and every sound that is produced, is so brilliantly mastered and polished, it's almost unreal.

He is indeed a musical genius (and not all good producers are that) ... but the best electronic producer ? Debateble ... There are many greats in many genre's.

He is amazing though ...

He's the best. No question about it. There are alot of genious ammong us in the psytrance scene but... naa.. Simon's was creator of what psytrance has evolved into today. He made that clear with Twisted in 95, i know he was the founding father of psytrance or nothing. But you get what i mean. Psychedelic trance would not be what it is today without Twisted, along with his other works of art.

I think he is the master of psychedelic aural demonition... but too say he's the best of the whole electronic 'scene' is an overstatement. He does what he does with great effort and good skill, but there are more of these artists around, for example Amon Tobin in his genre....

Mike D i completely agree with you.i just want to say that i trully respect and listen quite often the new progr-psy-techno-trance producers.they make some brilliant music(but not all of them). We can not compare the musical backround and experience of these new artists with the founders of psy-trance.Raja Ram,Antaro.Goa Gil,Simon P.,Koxbox,Christoff+Dado plus many many more, have years and years of influences and experience in many different music. That helped them to make this superb music, which called psy-trance.They developed that new kind of music and made it the completion of the global electronic music.I believe Simon is a music genius, but he's only a small part of the people who make great music. p.s. I 've seen Hallucinogen in live p.a. before 2 weeks here in Athens. The man broke the whole place.Only a few nowadays can make a real live!!!Hope you people come in Greece this summer ( Just Dance Festival,Voama,Psava Faam,Samothraki dance festival,Naoussa festival). B O M S H A N K A R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are just so many highly talented artists out there making incredible music and it is impossible to say who is "the best". But I would say that Simon Posford is an electronic music genious who has done so much for this music and this scene. I am sure that most of us feel respect and gratitude for the man and his creations. Who needs to say who is best? Every artist is unique, as is the music they create. Just be grateful and enjoy!

he was best and most original electronic artist i have seen "live".. playing games of musical de-ja-vu with audience was a brilliant trick i'v seen no other artists except "the Tea Party"(rock scene) do well. Bring on those samples!

Also the 1st electro album I bought was "Twisted" so there'll always be a soft spot.

Who can confidently account for general tastes though...... certainly the Japan Times opinion seems to be coming from very left of field. If it was a MixMag survey with 5000 peoples perceptions then it would be a somewhat more respectable opinion.

What the @!#$ is this obsession of listing everything in order, anyway??? Let the music do the talking and just enjoy it, @!#$ the stupid speculation on who´s better than whom or contributed more-or-less to this-or-that genre!

Want an answer to the question of this topic? Just listen through everything that Simon has produced: that should be enough for you to realize just how meaningless these kinds of questions are, that should be enough to see what´s important about music and what is not.
