Guest v4K
I've been playing/listening to spirallianz/midimiliz, the delta and wizzy noise tracks for more than a year by now and still can't understand how come people call this bands minimal. Where is the minimalistic on the trax and which trax are we talking about 'cus so far I can't find enough arguments to call Pop, Thing, Travelling at the speed of thought, submariner, flunger ranger, technophobia minimal psychedelic. Can you tell me why? v4K
Guest Raider
Maybe it's the selecting of sounds that defines it as minimal...? I prefer to call it as progressive/deep trance music, but can sense the minimal-"feeling" as well.
Guest v4K
I think the same Raider, I feel this more like progressive but not minimal. The Delta and Spirallianz use a lot of layers in theyr tracks to be called minimal but I guess the song's structure can be called progressive. v4K
Guest Mike D
I think it is a refernece to the majority of the songs that do have arge elemtnes of minimal, Wizzy Noise - Oversexed Succubus, sounds very like the stuff sme of the minimal techno DJ's here play, like some of the Detroit and UK acid techn. I alos only rfer to it as minimal on this page, in reality I and many others here seem to refer to it as "Alternative" Trance, mainly because it doesn't fit into minimal/acid techno, nor goa/psy trance nor club or house trance. So it more just a alternate mix of all these groups into some funky hardcore beats with a littel somehting sprinkled n the top.
Guest bugbread
Hmm...I call them minimal because they repeat themselves with only small variation, and when I hear a song played for the first time after listening to one phrase I can usually predict the next three phrases. "Boom - tsh - boom - swish - boom - chik - boom - sss" Hmm...my guess is that the next three phrases will also be "Boom - tsh - boom - swish - boom - chik - boom - sss". Bingo. And that's why people call them minimal.
Guest jsb
Exactly, because midimiliz, delta and new wizzy noise are VERY boring, it's why it is called minimal ! And please don't tell me it's genuis ok ?
Guest lÿsërgïç
i call something minimal depending on how many overall sounds are used throughout the track.
Guest ks
i dunno, in my opinion all those mentioned above qualify as tech trance... sometimes reffered to as technoa... minimal is more like son kite, bitmonx... i think even human blue is closer to minimal than wizzy noise and x- dream... Guest sukanta
to jsb : wizzy noise are the masters , they are fuckin' genius and cyclotron just rocksssssssssssssssss
Guest Dino
jsb ----> For YOU it might be boring, thats your choice. But don't go around saying minimal trance is very boring just becouse you don't understand it. I don't call full on boring just because it's not my cup of tea. Learn to respect other peoples taste in musik, not just your own. It only makes you look like an ass and cause bad vibes in this forum. Guest Setsuko
you like it or you do not like it .. it's that simple ... and yes I would call Midi Miliz minimal and also some tracks of Wizzy Noise .. that's because the build up isn't agressive and chaotic ... it's subtle and done with a touch ... it's so deeeeeep :-)
Guest Lifeform
well i dont like wizzy that much... But i wouldn't classify the first Delta cd minimal... But their newer one... blah... No thanks.
Guest sukanta
i can agree on the fact that the fisrt wizzy noise's album "cybermancy" can be called progressive ... but no way it's minimal!!! and midimiliz is not minimal either... it's progressive tech-trance , but most of their tracks aren't minimal at all !!! the first delta "schizoeffective" is no way minimal either... some tracks are dark progressive , some are full on , ans some are dark down tempo... but nothing here is minimal..... you guys should give a listen (no offense , please don't take it bad) to iboga or tatsu rec. productions to understand the difference between progressive and minimal stuffs... progressive can be minimal , because this defines the building of a track, but it also can be psychedelic !!! minimal is different than progressive imo but once again, we're going into another useless topic "what is minimal , what's not"... there is no bad sort of music , there is just bad music peace , love & happyness
Guest Red Headed Stepchild
I must say that to assume that if a group decides to not use melodies that makes them boring is not very intelligent. I get responses from the mainstream music listener that all electronic music sounds like BOOM BOOM. I as we would all agree that is not a fair judgement. Quite alot of "Electronic" music has alot more depth like "PSY" for instance. But here we are and people are saying that all minimal is a bunch of boring BOOM BOOM. I quite honestly haven't heard much minimal that I thought was just some simple beat. I think alot of artist went into making progressive and minimal because it require more skill. It takes alot of music know how to make something sound meaningful with less sounds. Artists especially the best ones are always look for a new way to expand their learning experience in music. If you think any of this stuff is all that minimal go listen to some hardcore Gabba and tell me that they are the same. Melodies are a part of music and it would be a crime if them were lost for all time but that isn't going to happen. So be more ZEN and stay open and free-sprited. Guest Red Headed Stepchild
So about all the replies my server was being so slow and I tried to post this and then like all at once it posted them all.
Guest v4K
Well, here in Mexico we don't consider those bands as minimal, or unless not all the way; it's consider more like dark-night stuff, but I most say that I don't really enjoy pure minimal tracks, but I definitly enjoy a real dark atmosphere/sounds when the track is not so layered like Marchaos and K-Zol ...I guess i like the minimal dark tech-trance sound tho... v4K
