Ov3rdos3
ok, i can mix, or ive got the basics down at least. now here is my question. "how the hell do you mix ambient?" since their are no beats to beatmix?
Bahamut
beatless ambient is hard to mix I guess... you'll have to search for "neutral" sounding parts (where there are no actual notes, so only FX, rhythm etc.) to fade one into the next... some parts could go in tune with each other but that doesn't happen often... you could pitch shift to match them (while keeping the same tempo or not, doesn't matter much if it's beatless does it?) just experiment a bit to see what sounds together... not that I'm experienced at this... check out my second mix: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2B4D5EPO
Symphoid
mixing ambient is rather tricky. what i like to do is turn the master volume down pretty low and from there you can recognize what sounds outshine others. if bass, for example, isn't heard at low levels than it needs a boost. this is a very general approach at mixing ambient, but it often works for me. Bahamut
huh I think he meant making a mix of several ambient tracks, not mixing one track

jamez_23
mmmm .... if you can, work out which key your tracks are in .... and then make sure that your mixes are tuneful / harmonic ..... stuff the "beat mixing" element .....
