Guest Entare
Bom everybody, been a long time since a posted something on this forum (damn school) . I have a sort of a opinion problem in my head... Since there is going to be a sort of a festival in my school at the end of the classes, so I was asked to spin at it. I came recently to Canada, Vancouver to be exact and I know that people here almost have never heard psy/goa. And also I know that my friends in school woudn't apreciate if I spin dark minimal. That's why I'm left with two options: to spin old school (like Power source, Bypass unit, Prana, Nada, AP, Shakta..) or full-on (Skazi, Talamasca, Infected, Jaia... ). If u goaheads can throw some replies, I would apreciate it. Keep in mind that these r mostly mainstream trance and jungle/breaks listeners. I would like to introduce them with the finest of psy/goa. bOOm!!!!!
Guest cyber
Why not both old school and new stuff? I think that's the best way to go.
Guest akira
I'd be tempted to stay more on the full on side of things as old school can bore some people who don't 'listen' to it. Just keep in mind that you're playing for a dancefloor and you'll be fine. Good luck and let us know how you went!
Guest Mike D
some goodie I've played at friend's parties, including for 1 hour at a breakbeat party hehe, I was asked to fill in for the first hour and had 6 psy cd's and this was my set: 1. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly - Pura Vida 2. Talamasca - The Hunter Becomes The Hunted 3. Psychaos - Mad Lane 4. Wizzy Noise - Painful Memory 5. The Delta - Pop (Synthetic Remix) 6. Psychaos - Sonic Chemist 7. Absolum - Gold Finger 8. Shpongle - Divine Moments Of Truth (Trance Miz) 9. Shpongle - The Sixth Revelation. It worked out ok, and there wereonly like my mates and 20 other people, so it was just a bit of fun, kinda testing the sound sytem. It is important for YOU to have a GREAT time as the dj. The crowd picks up on this, and if you are nervous and trying just to make a god impression, thenit can get a bit messy. Go through your collection and find the tracks you first loved, the ones with the greates memories, and the ones that have a lto of fun in them. I think it'd be good to chuck in some Delta or Wizzy Noise, especially Wizzy as they combine fun with the darker side of trance, they have a lot of groove and funkiness about them. And have a wicked time!!!
Guest ThRoB
..knowing the general lack of exposure they get over that side of the water... I would suggest that if you wanna 'introduce' as it were the 'sound of trance'without "scaring the @!#$ out of them", go for anything with the 'wiggle'..! Twisted, evil, dirty, but definatley those tunes with the little funky twist that shakes yer hips ( Alien Project, Mumbo Jumbo, Miraculix, Shift, GMS ) ~ because if there is a wiggle, then the girls will be on the floor.. and if the girls are dancing... the boys are dancing.. :-)
Guest Entare
I have been thinking more bout it and u guys r right, more groove songs with some catchy lines that everybody knows (like Gms - Star wars) but also as Throb said with a ' wiggle ' - maybe Kox Box from their Great unknown album (little bit jazzy), Space cat also, ...yes Wizzy too.I planned puting Space cat - Deep rising, cos it is a an masterpiece (that the melody in the background!! ) ). It is most important that girls catch the vibes as u said and we all know that girls don't like it to dark. More opinions... thx bOOm!! Guest £L!P§3
you should mix your set with old school, full-on, minimal, ambient, melodic and so on.... so that they get a glimtse of the whole psychedelic scene....
Guest entare
Thx for the replies I'll see what I can do to ' bring the apocalypse ' )) My mix is probably going to be with old school, full on and melodic vibes. I'll post the result of it after the festival. bOOm!!
