dude i listened your mini mix and it doesn`t sound smooth at all i can tell you that cause i am a beginner too and when i started i mixed like that , you have a lot to learn like programing and doing the change at the right time of the track , you can beatmatch tracks but if you beatmatch tracks that have anything in common and you dont change them at the right time the mix sounds like @!#$ .

There are certain rules or tips that you have to keep in mind when you mix , i learned those rules mixing and listening to other djs .

I will give you the first two rules and a tip today.

1) KNOW YOUR MUSIC : listen well your records or cds and try to find those things :

-The last Sequence : you will find that almost every trance track has a " good by sequence " (the beggining of the end ) try to find that part in every track ussually it comes after a big pause with -3 or -2 minutes remaining those remaining minutes are the beggining of the end and the perfect time to start looking for the last sequence.

IMPORTANT : Not every last sequence is good to beatmatch because you have to keep in mind SYNCRONISATION (or whatever is spelled) that i will explain you another day.

-The real beggining : almost every trance track starts with a 30 secs 1 or 2 minutes "fake" sequence, after that "fake" sequence there is a pause or a sample , after that pause the "real" sequence of the track beggins .

IMPORTANT : Fake sequence or not that sequence is basic to do a SYNCRONISED CHANGE that i will explain you another day .

2) FIND YOUR MUSIC STYLE : which kind of trance are you going to mix??? Full on psy ? Minimal?? German Minimal ?? Progressive psy ?? this is basic to know which tracks are similar , you cant do a smooth mix if you mix those styles you have to start whit one and i can tell you that beacause i had that problem when i started for example : i tried to mix gms with son kite, sounds stupid but i did it.

IMPORTANT : Choose well your style because you are going to spend your money in that style and if you start something you have to finish it .

Tip 1 : Listen well other mixes and not only psy mixes ,progressive trance is the perfect example to be a smooth dj , listen great djs like digweed , howells , sasha, seaman , pappa , fortier , jimmy van M , Cass etc , try to find out how they mix keeping in mind the first 2 rules i gave you ,you will need an extra ear to do that (ganja works at the beggining).

Download : anthony pappa nu breed cd 2 and bedrock 2 cd 1 for a good example of smoothness , sasha ibiza cd 1 for a good example of musical and syncronised changes , smootness , beat matching , programing , track selection etc etc that mix is THE MIX . ( dont worry about the download those djs are very rich )

For Psy mixes : download the dj jaimz - order lagomorpha for a nice mix and buy or dl TIME re : evolution 2 for the cass mix .

IMPORTANT : just listen and dont try to copy their styles , you will have to find your own style if you want to be a good one .

If you want more tips and rules just tell me and if you know something i dont please tell me because i am a begginer too and i have a lot to learn .

Cheers

Hmmm... I mix different styles, mostly Psy and Full-On. I can't mix almost every psy-style, but when I do it, I try to set at mood and mix it, so it tells a story. Usually start with some simple, then build it up so it gets faster...later more full on, and at the end more morning/clubbish psy trance. :)

I'm also an "all-styles" psy DJ. But this means that I like long sets (5 hours or more), because in short sets you can only explore one or two styles. I think it is a pitty that parties have only a couple of hours per set. Not only a pity from the DJ point of view, but also as a listener I like it better when a DJ is allowed to play for many hours. Long sets rule!
