RIAAA (Recording Industry Association Association of America)

The Recording Industry Association Association of America is an oligopoly of the five biggest record companies in the world. These companies are Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, EMI Music, and BMG Music. If you've ever purchased a pre-recorded cassette tape or CD, chances are 99 to 1 it was released by one of these five companies under one of their hundreds of record labels.

The RIAA is similar to a killer octopus whose tentacles are always reaching out for prey. The prey would be us, the music fans, and even the recording artistes themselves. The RIAA is committed to preventing any independent label from gaining a foothold in the industry. This is how they can team up with music retailers to fix the artificially high price of CDs. It also allows them to maintain a chokehold on the songs that get on radio stations' playlists. They pretty much decide which CDs are heavily promoted in retail stores and which music videos go in heavy rotation on the video music TV channels. In other words, these bozos have taken it upon themselves to decide what type of music we listen to and buy.

Yeah, I agree... But I also agree that the psy (and all other non-commercial) artists should earn money for their work. If my money would go directly to the artist (as it should be), I'd pay with pleasure... But to pay 99% of my money to RIAA - NO FUCKING WAY!!!

I believe that Internet technology will enable us to achieve that.

Peace!

(P.s. That means I'd be glad to pay Elysium 10 times more money than he gets by selling one CD with the way things are going now with RIAA around... ;)

We'll see what the time will bring. Until then, let's try to forget the issue of money when we talk about music... Money makes everything corrupt, and he who pursues only money in life, well, goes to hell... ;)

What I don't understand is that even psytrance stuff has been blocked. Does the RIAA include such small (and what I thought were independent) labels like tip world, twisted, balloonia, aurinko, etc. ?? AG was great for previewing music before I bought it, but now what?

It makes me so mad that money grubbing corporations such as Sony, Universal, and the rest can have so much control over what we hear. I stopped listening to radio a while ago because I was so sick of hearing the same 12 songs over and over and over again. I guess the lesson to be learned is stop supporting these people. We as consumers have the power to say no more by not buying any of their crap! Now if only the rest of the population would catch on...

Guest mmm...

I think they have blocked _all_ songs on AG, until they´ll get the licenses for the distribution from the relevant quarters. That´s what the RIAA report said. So that´s why even the productions of smaller companies are blocked now.
