Guest stringtheory
Hey Peaceful Warrior, I just got B.P. Empire recently. I remembered you saying you thought it was really good. Well, I have mixed feelings. There are some really brilliant parts to this album. Very well thought out tracks, simple yet complicated. But there are some other parts, that just really are boring. It's like half of the CD is 10/10, the other half is like 5/10. Kinda strange. It doesn't match The Gathering, although I ordered Classical Mushroom, which i can't wait for it to arrive. I like minimal alot, as well as full on. But it seems like on a couple of tracks, they were trying to hard to be minimal, and not just let the creative process happen. What do you think ? Dark Soho is a perfect example of brilliant minimal. It all just fits so well. Every piece adds to the feel of the track. There are no parts of the tracks that should not be part of the tracks. And what is there is not too much, but just right.

Strumpling
I agree completely - There are some AWESOME parts in that CD, where everything just seems to come together beautifully, but these parts are too few, and they don't last long enough. Other parts of this album are a bit slow, and just take too long to build into something grand. -=- Matt/Strumpling -=- hopefully they get back on track... seems like they lack direction recently. Guest Peaceful Warrior
Well Stringtheory, thanks for sharing your opinion with us. Its good that you got to listen to B.P. Empire, but too bad that you didn't like it as much as me. Not that that you didn't agree is bad, I just mean that its too bad that it wasn't another really good album for you. I do kinda understand where you guys are comming from as far as your opinions of this album; about there being empty parts and it not being as powerful as previous albums. But for me the empty parts aren't boring, they are subtle. And the whole album is powerful for me, just not in an extremely overt way. I don't know, I guess I was just at a point where I wanted something not as full on, in your face every second. But if that is what you are craving then I see why this album may not appeal to you as much as their previous stuff. Everybody is at a different place, different desires and perspectives, so it is natural that things have a different impact on different people. This is o.k.. What I don't like is when people have so much negative emotion spilling out. I mean why do they have to say things like "this sucks so bad", "this is a shitty album" and so on. I think if something is not your thing just say that it is not your thing and try to explain why.(The way you guys above did). Just saying it "sucks" doesn't help anyone and it is just useless negativity and also it seems to be more confrontational towards the people who do indeed like it. Anyway, enough of my ranting and raving. I think that Stringtheory, you will like Classical Mushroom (but I could be wrong). So after you get it tell us what you think about it. I am anxious to see if we agree on that one. Peace and Happiness to you guys.
Guest Mike D
What the hell do you mean by minal?? Seriously, if you think BP Empire is minmal, what do you think The Delta and co. are??? I think it is funny that people say BP Empire is minimal, it is full on, it is just not melodic. Just because it has no full synthersized melody does not mak eit minimal, it would be like saying that Powergen by Astral Projection is pure acid techno, not goa/psy trance at all, but it is because of the feww other bits added, minimal is when there is basically beats, basslines and very, very, very few few synthetic parts. The day I.M is minimal, is the day I'll die hehe, I mean, Dancing With Kadafi minmal?? Check your terminology before blabbing stuff out mate, take it from one who knows!! Guest bugbread
Uh, I'll add something to "one who knows": no-one said that the album is minimal, just that it has lots of minimal sections. Minimal FOR INFECTED MUSHROOM. Not minimal compared to the gods of minimal. Hell, even the Delta sounds like full on compared to Plastikman, but I wouldn't go around telling people that call The Delta minimal that they need to check their terminology before "blabbing". Compare Classical Mushroom to BPEmpire and then tell me with a straight face that BPEmpire is not overall a "more minimal" album. Er, besides which, to correct both yourself and myself: no-one in this thread has even said that there were minimal parts. The closest was when Stringtheory said they sounded like they were "trying hard to be minimal". By the way, Stringtheory and Peaceful Warrior, thanks for some of the best intelligent discussion on the sound of BPEmpire. Refreshing to read something well thought out and phrased like that. Guest stringtheory
Thanks alot for all the great responses friends. This is exactly why I come to this board. Intelligent people talking about intelligent music. Very cool. To Bugbread: Thanks alot for your kind words man. That was cool. I always enjoy your posts as well. Always very well thought out, and very logical. Right on. Same goes for you as well strumpling. You have alot of excellent thoughts! And to Peaceful Warrior, I look forward to Classical Mushroom, I can't wait to see how they have taken instrumental pieces and blended them together with their normal craziness. I am also looking forward to Sphongle:Are You Sphongled? alot. I love Tales of the Inexpressible. And it seems like almost everyone thinks Are You Sphongled blows it away.
