Guest annnonnnnymous
author's note: The preceding paragraph is a rambling psychotic-styled confesion and guilt purge. Enjoy. ~I have to admit i probably have the lowest ratio of downloads in mb to money spent on music, over the past two years, of anyone who has ever visited this site (i am not a regular). I guess this is a confession. Ever since audiogalaxy went down I've realized that for chronic downloaders like myself, it has more to do with the whole act of searching and locating and finding new music - free is just a bonus. But now I'm remembering how much fun it was going to the record shop and hunting through bin after bin and finding that album or cd you forgot you were looking for. Downloading is like a drug. With drugs half the fun (okay maybe not half) is going to get the stuff and driving to the club with those pills in your pocket and thinking about how much fun you're going to have. From what I remember, when i was buying more music, going to the record store was much more rewarding than sitting in front of a monitor hoping that scorching download speed doesn't stop. The other correlation to drug abuse that I realized is that, like downloading, one day I'd realize that a year went by and all i did was party every weekend and the only memories I'd have were party stories (and work stories of course, but work is how I've been wasting the other half of my life away...wait a second, for the longest time I'd work all week just so I'd have enough money to party and by working and partying, so much of my memories from those years is either blurry or boring...damn! all that time wasted and for what? Nothing!) What was I getting at? Oh yeah, and just the other day I shook the crust off my eyes and the dust out of my brain and realized that I was a p2p abuser! Oh, if I had spent the money for my dsl line on vinyl instead ($50 a month X 24 = $1200) I have a hell of a lot more than I do now. I am glad, in a way (hey, i'm still feeling the pull!), that audiogalaxy is dead. The only problem is that I can hear winmx whispering in my ear "come, search my viens for miam maim (new bamboo forest track), feel my interface, watch my progress bar...only this one time...only this one track..."~

Guest korr
i kinda know the feeling.. it's a drug, the neverending search for new stuff. perhaps its good for our social life that AG's down ). but how the f*** am i going to judge and get to know new music to buy now? the good thing was the spamming, i learned about superb artists who would never have crossed my life path without. when those artists - sorry no the giant label bosses - are going to see that mp3 is good for them? Guest Dr. Cheroot
I think the artists/labels themselves should offer longer samples, say 80% of the track (5-6 minute samples). this would ensure that you have enough material to know if you like a track or not, and if u like it, it would definitely make you want to but it. right now!! u wouldn't want to download it coz it is not the complete thing. hows that? Guest Elysium Project
I agree Dr. Cheroot but the thing is that in order to do so they need massive serverspace to be able to cover all releases. I see a lot of people complaining about the online shops only make 1-2 mins. samples available. Just imagine how much server space they need if they have to make sure that all tracks are played 80%. I recon that the server space have to be around 50 - 100 Gbyte if not more. That would for sure be enough to ruin most independent shops and not to talk about the artists sites. How would an artist manage to pay for that? Your idea is ok but just not realistic.
Guest Rishi
Simply put the 80% tracks on AudioGalaxy, that solves your storage problem.
