Sound Card Advice

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I'm finally making the leap to a digital studio, which means I'm going to plop down a bunch of money on some equipment, which includes a new computer, Reason 3.0, and a good soundcard. The computer issue is relatively easy, and I think Reason is a good place to start (I've used FL5 and liked it, but I want something more professional and powerful but still with a relatively simple interface). But I'm not an expert on sound cards, and after some research it looks like the Echo Gina 3G is the way to go.

However, if you think that there's something better for cheaper (than US$279), please inform me.

Here are my needs from a sound card:

- obviously to get the best sound out of a very good desktop

- to attach my controller (Korg 01/W) with MIDI

- to attach my mic for vocoded stuff

- to use exclusively with monitor headphones

- to potentially connect (via RCA) to my receiver

Any advice is most appreciated.

I am not an expert on Sound cards too, but i know that Echo gina is perfect for your request, and has a good name on the market ... i cant think of anything better for a fair price right now

Btw, if you are used to make music on FL5, just remenber that Reason has an unique interface, and its totally diferent from FL. Reason is genius when comes to certain things, and a littlle bit of complicated on others

I recomend you try a demo, before you buy it. To see if fits you

Thanks Stalker.

I actually decided to get another sound card, the M-Audio Delta 1010 LT, since it appears the Echo products are not as incorporated into the music world and may have some glitches. Also, I've done a LOT of research into the music software I want to get, and it seems Reason is at least the best start, after which I can always upgrade to Cubase if I feel it's necessary and still use the great sounds on Reason.

Exactly. Keep in mind that reason does not support vst, while FL does. (Yes, I know you can rewire and all that)
