asian_bud_nation
1) What programs you use, and any hardware instruments, midi controllers, etc (PC Specs too)? Powerbook G4 1.33 GHz with 1 GB Ram. Reason 3.0, Cubase Sx, Evolution MK-249C2 MIDI Keyboard, Korg KP2 Kaoss Pad, Korg Electribe MX, Access Virus Indigo, Novation K-Station 2) On average, how long does it take you to build and finish a Song? Since about 6 months I have been producing together with a friend, which has considerably sped up the time it takes to convert ideas into sound..usually it takes about 1 week or so of constant work to finish a track, but it is then usually remixed and tweaked and rebounced countless times before its played live. 3) Which parts do you find tedious when building your track (if any), if it pattern sequencing, automation, etc? The hardest part about producing is keeping myself from getting too carried away. I have a habit of working extremely non-linearly, which means i keep making small individual parts throughout the song without ever really thinking of how to piece them together...so in the end its always a challenge trying to mold everything i've made into one song...and usually due to this our tracks end up being over 8 minutes, sometimes even over 10 :-S 4) Where did the inspiration come from to start producing music? It was actually right when I first started listening to psy trance...i was experimenting with all kinds of substances and I just wanted to be able to project the way psy trance was effecting me onto some sort of medium..id played drums for 9 or 10 years and at the time (due to space limitations) couldnt play anymore..i needed to be involved in some sort of music so i started producing on my own. 5) AND Your favourite style to produce alone i tend to produce more darker, atmospheric sound...big basslines and drums with minimal melodies, pads and sfx...our current project is however much more full on oriented and definitelyy has a "clubby" touch to it...we like a lot of progressive psy so we try and mix some its elements with full on psy. Amygdala
1) What programs you use, and any hardware instruments, midi controllers, etc (PC Specs too)? Logic, running on my G4 powerbook - controlling Roland JV-2080, SH-1, Juno-106, TR-606 & 707, Korg Prophecy, Waldorf MW-XT, AKAI S3200. Also contributing: MAM VF-11 vocoder, Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, and an old linemixer for warm overdrive - a patchbay, and a digitech effect machine. 2) On average, how long does it take you to build and finish a Song? Since i have way to little time to compose, a couple of months is the average I guess. 3) Which parts do you find tedious when building your track (if any), if it pattern sequencing, automation, etc? I hate cleaning up excess effects, and bouncing parts to create more computational headroom on my 5-6 years old mac. Also - whenever I have a really phat groove going, I tend to do very little about it, because I'm afraid to ruin the atmosphere with leads and stuff. 4) Where did the inspiration come from to start producing music? A recording of Der Dritte Raum's live-performance in Copenhagen '95 (or '96?) 5) AND Your favourite style to produce? Various... At the moment dark delta-ish tech-trnace prefereably bellow 130 BPM - some composer-game music with childish atmoshpere

ElendarSilvermoon
First post here, might as well do this before anything. 1) What programs you use, and any hardware instruments, midi controllers, etc (PC Specs too)? FL Studio 6 and alot of free vsts I picked up. I've actually been using the 3xOsc for alot of my synthesis lately. I have collection of waveforms from various hardware synths that I load into there and use in there to make the oscillators sound nice and analog-ish. As far as the computer, this is just an old 800mhz junker that's a temp until I get my own computer set up. 2) On average, how long does it take you to build and finish a Song? As long as it takes. Depends on how picky I am on the particular song. It can take me as little as a few hours to years to actually finish an idea. 3) Which parts do you find tedious when building your track (if any), if it pattern sequencing, automation, etc? Usually just getting it to sound right is my main difficulty. I'm a major perfectionist at times. 4) Where did the inspiration come from to start producing music? Just listened to music all my life and wondered what it would be like to be on the other side of the music, actually creating it. 5) AND Your favourite style to produce? Whatever comes to my head when I sit down. The other day I was making jazzy funk sort of stuff to take my mind off the other stuff I was working on at the moment. So it varies. I mostly worth with classical and ambient stuff nowadays though. Just go with the flow pretty much.
Veracohr
1) What programs you use, and any hardware instruments, midi controllers, etc (PC Specs too)? Digital Performer 2.7, Reason 2.5, ReBirth 2.0, Emu Orbit V2, Novation BassStation Rack, Roland XP-10 (used as a MIDI controller, oh how I hate it!), Mac G4 466MHz (1.6GHz G4 upgrade card on the way). And occasionally my Ibanez RG250 guitar with Ibanez TubeKing distortion pedal and a Dean Markley amp I don't really care for. 2) On average, how long does it take you to build and finish a Song? On average, probably about 3 months. One month is flying for me, and I've got a couple that have been around for 2+ years that aren't done. 3) Which parts do you find tedious when building your track (if any), if it pattern sequencing, automation, etc? Mac OS9 Other than that...I'd not say tedious is the right word, but sometimes I spend so much time getting the right sound that by the time I've got the sound, I've forgotten the part I had in mind for it. 4) Where did the inspiration come from to start producing music? Kirk Hammett. I wanted to be a rock star. 5) AND Your favourite style to produce? I don't know. Perhaps the quirky, un-genred stuff I do on occasion. Whatever I'm writing at any given time is my favorite style at that time.
