Guest Jaimz
Hey, who do you reckon would win in a fight between the Starship Enterprise and one of them big Destroyers the Empire has in Empire Strikes Back?
Guest obi
its quite simple if I can't listen to new music to judge if i like it (that takes more than 1 preview) I am NOT going to spend $20 or say euro on a cd. And there is alot of music that i like to explore. When audio galaxy was around i selected about 2 new bands a month and descided to buy the abum...but how do you discover those obscure gems if you can't listen to them? You mostly can't get them in your local music shop. I haven't bought any cd's since AG is gone and i probably won't till i have a new chance to listen to new stuff in large amounts. plur. Guest --== MiLeS ==--
The digital file format is the future...not necessarily the illegal one. It would be nice to cut the middleman costs out and download from the lazy chair. Local shops don't carry anything worth buying anyway... - not wait 2 weeks for distribution - burn the stuff yourself...sound quality...don't start...an iso image of a CD would do, thank you...downloading a few hours beats 2 waiting a few shipping weeks.... - can u spell portability...mp3 players outsell cd players 5:1...if the market decides between succes and failure...conventional CDs are down and out... - the labels can lower prices significantly because there are no manufacturing costs...One master copy on a fast server will do... If you discus Science fiction, its strange you still see the charm of the old and tired CD model (I presume)... The future is digital... Just give us the opportunity to choose...between buying expensive pre-made CDs or Burn it yourself the cheaper way... The consumer will win... Basilisk
don't fight the future - its a losing battle try before you buy is how this world works now... deal with it
Guest lurk
Basilisk, you and people like oa are in the minority when it comes to people who download mp3's... the vast majority have no intention of buying any of what they download, all they want to do is leech. So don't get all uptight when someone suggests buying rather than downloading music, as it doesn't really apply to you. Miles, if you are from Amsterdam, or nearby, Groove Connection has avery good selection of Psy these days where you can listen before you buy =o)
Guest hoffy
i'd find it hard to believe there are any psy-trance retailers (shops that specialise in any electronic music, really) that *wouldnt* let you listen to the CDs there before you buy it.... I agree with Basilisk, but i also think there are a lot of people who just use "try before you buy" as an excuse to leech- how easy is it to say "i tried it, i liked it, and i can't find the original so fuck it". There's a few MP3's i have, i know i've got no chance of finding the original, so i'll keep them, despite how bad the quality of the mp3's are, especially when listened to comparitively with the original cd's in my collection. and just so i don't step any toes, i'm not accusing anyone here of using "previewing music" as an excuse! Guest spacemonkey - 604
ha jaimz they all fell for it! on the topic i believe the empire destroyers would definetily win i mean they are much bigger have more weapons and they can send out tie fighters! ;-) It's one of these nerd discussions like : who would win alien or predator, or: superman or batman. Guest hans
only one thing to add to this endless discussion about mp3 or not: 1. How many copies of a new release does a well known artist sell these days? 5000? How much does he get out of it? Not very much, we all know, that most of the money is taken by distributors. 2. How often does a well known artist get booked these days? Every weekend, maybe twice all summer in Europe and all Winter (South America etc.) How much does he get out of it? 500-5000 US$ depending of the status, the party promotor and the size of the event. I think there is a lot of money to cellect... My question would be: How can it be possible that 100.000 of people are spending a lot of money for parties every weekend around the globe, if well known artists ares selling only 5000 or maybe 10.000 copies of a new release. People get to know these artists downloading mp3's or sharing with freinds and they are giving back their money in going to parties. It's just another step in the value chain of music business. OK, ok I know this explanation doesn't work for musicians making non party music, but for a lot of artists especially in the psy scene mp's are giving them back the money they should get out of their work. Just another point of view in this discussion. BTW: I'm downloading first and buy then everything if I like it...
Guest dam10n
I recommend shoplifting as an alternative. I just wander into a music store, cram some CDs into my underpants and then, if I like them, I go out and buy them.
Guest bugbread
Jaimz is rackin' up the points! I figure that the Empire would win, but the star destroyers themselves would be destroyed. Probably the star destroyer would take out the Enterprises shield but soon be destroyed, but then the fast and plentiful T.I.E. fighters would easily evade the Enterprises slow weapons and eventually get through. If the shields were still up, it would be hopeless, but if they used T.I.E. bombers, they could get the shields down.
Guest Antonomasia
I often buy albums (around 3 a month), but sometimes, I'm forced to download CD's "illegaly" since they're not available anywhere. I would really like to buy Pleiadians I.FO., T.I.P - Mystical Experiences, Etnica - Juggeling Alchimists... and so on, but I can't, so the solution is (was) using audiogalaxy. Guest bugbread
Star Destroyer alone - Lose Star Destroyer with T.I.E. Fighters - 50/50 Star Destroyer with T.I.E. Bombers - Win Jaimz's score: 9!
Guest didge
the odds are: - Starship Enterprise $2 - Star Destoyer $.
Otto Matta
Perhaps there's a way for the Enterprise to download the potential battle to see if it would win or not. If it would win, then it could maybe, if it were in the mood, buy the battle.
Guest spacemonkey - 604
what if the rebels found out about enterprise mayby they'd join up? destroy yhe empire together and when they won finnish off those annoying ewoks.
Guest Jaimz
Alright, my view is that the Enterprise would be in the clear because the ships belonging to the Empire never hit a fucken thing, they seem to be training in the delicate arts of missing your opponents at extremely short range. Also, the Empire is evil, and evil never triumphs. On the other hand, there is a possible scenario in which core crew of the Enterprise, namely any characters whose correseponding actors' names appear in the opening titles, are beamed down to a nearby planet or lost in some kinda interdimensional rift - if this is the case, and the Enterprise is at that time staffed only by extras, then they will perish in a ball of flame. Guest lespagnol
The uss entreprise is really shit in comparaison with a super star destroyer. The fact is that a very small ship can avoid the very big plasma laser of th destroyer....but a sts got a lot of tie fighter ,tie bomber and tie interceptor .Nobody can beat the empire... between batman and superman the response is pretty easy:batman is NOT a superHeroe and don t have any super power...Super man can fly and don t need to listen to astral projection for doing it. SUPERMAN can kill batman in ONe second with its laser eyes;
