Guest Tentwins
I really hate to create new genres within a genre, but it's impossible to compare producers like Noma with Hallucinogen or Son Kite with Infected Mushroom. There's is something that makes a difference. How would you define minimal or progressive trance?? I really need your opinion, in order to shut a smartass' mouth. Guest Mike D
Infected Mushroom base their music more on the idea of a journey, a story telling. Ticon/Son Kite base their music on making people dance.
Guest APlusC
Very good point. I can't stand when people start comparing Hallucinogen to Hux Flux or other artists like that. I think there is a difference though between trance thats minimal or just not melodic. For example, X-Dream is deffinately not minimal, although its not melodic either. I think it might be possible to make a scale similar to this: 1. ----- VERY MELODIC ---- Yahel Tim Schuldt California Sunshine Infected Mushroom Pleiadians Dark Soho 2. ----- MORE MELODIC ----- Hallucinogen Shpongle Miranda Juno Reactor Astral Projection Talamasca Man with No Name 3. ---- IN THE MIDDLE ---- X-Dream Skazi GMS Battle of the Future Buddhas Green Nuns of the Revolution 4. ---- MORE MINIMAL ---- Logic Bomb Hux Flux 5. ---- VERY MINIMAL ---- Ticon Son Kite Now, obviously this is NOT a ranking going from better to worse. It is more of a guideline to use when comparing artists. You can only compare an artist from group 1 to another one from group 1 or 2. In other words, you cant "skip" a group. Guest gaah
Hux Flux Minimal !?!? WTF?!.. Have you heard Hux Flux - Cryptic Crunch album from 1999? If that is minimal then EVERYthing is minimal.... I mean common' there are THOUSANDS of NOISES and sounds in Hux Flux songs...Very much going on all the time.. = NOT MINIMAL... ITS MAXIMAL! Guest Satoshi
Allright AplusC, let me get this straight. Ticon is NOT super-minimalistic, Parasence IS super minimalistic! Pleiadians could be minimalistic, just listen to Alcyone...
Guest * Vlad *
Though it usually doesn't do justice to artists with stickin labels on their work, i'd say this: - AplusC's list is pretty accurate - Also very useful for any newcomer who wants to discover more of the Psy/goa scene with buying the right CD's. I would consider Dark Soho more in the middle though.. Peace.
