Guest Smarthowie Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Bonky - Bonky 2 Artist: Bonky Title: Bonky 2 Label: Doof Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. Trumpet 02. No Idea 03. Wok 04. Hillbilly 05. Zapper 06. Alu Gobi 07. Mission 08. Hallucination 09. Jazz Bloopers Review: This is the last album we will ever get from this great artist, Onno Borgen aka Bonky. He died in a diving accident in Indonesia 4th of January 2003. This new album is a very good way to remember him, he with his distintive style which you either hate or love. I love it! This time Bonky have made a really funny album, with influences by trumpet, country, western and jazz, and you can find many cool samples, country-music samples and from a Bruce Lee-movie. This album is different from the first, it seems to me that every track here has a "theme". T1 is Trumpet, and very influenced by it. A very cool intro, and then the usual Bonky-beats kicks in. Cool track. T2 is even harder, very "rocking" and psychedelic, maybe some guitar in the middle(?) and T3 has one of those funny intro`s again, I think it is from a Bruce Lee-movie. All of Bonky`s tracks is very psychedelic, but in his own way. All of Doof-releases is very Forest-oriented IMO, and Zirkin and Bonky are the best... Forest and a large amount of acid T4 has a ridicolous funny intro again, western or country, or something like that, very funny, before the hard beats kicks in. Again psychedelic and a cool track! T5 has some sounds I am sure I have heard before, but I can`t remember where.. Probably on Triund or Acid Test, very psychedelic and a lovely sound in the beat. Great. T6 is Alu Gobi and this track is also at Acid Test. So this one is not new, but a very good track, some kind of double-beat bassline, which Bonky use often, and a very nice "melody" almost at the end of the track. T7 is a hard one again, very psychedelic, and then we have T8, Hallucination, which I think is probably the best track. But don`t misunderstand me here, there are not a single bad track on this album. I like the sample in track 8 "It is absolutely clear that people hallucinate" ! A hard and great track, maybe the fastest, I`m not sure, but very good. T9 is Jazz-oriented, Jazz Bloopers, a great ending-track, usual Bonky-style, in the bassline and sounds. Overall I really enjoyed listening to this album, and it won`t be the last one, for sure!! It says so in my cover that Onno died happy, I hope he did, all of us will miss him, rest in peace Onno Cool cover too, by the way. Final verdict:10/10. No one can ever copy Bonky`s magnificent style ! Quote
Jalliuz Posted April 9, 2003 Posted April 9, 2003 Not bad... It does has a special sound but couldn't really captivate me. Sounds like the old album. 6,5/10 Quote
