Guest Blue Spectral Monkey
In R Voice - Resonance Metaphisix Artist: In R Voice Title: Resonance Metaphisix Label: Optica Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. 07'10" Docklands Anomaly 02. 08'55" Resonance 03. 07'24" Chaos Infinity 04. 07'12" Alien Resonator 05. 08'19" Reality Is Illusion 06. 06'16" Present Continuous Moment 07. 07'17" Mysterious Minds 08. 07'41" Emotion Code 09. 06'28" Trunklator 10. 07'10" Time Is Running Out 11. 05'05" Inner Voice Review: 01 docklands anomaly: comes on with a buzzing and the drums start, you know youre in for it! the kick is round and fat, the waves behind the drums are warm. a couple good buzzes and warps, with some indecipherable voice, and down into the break , then it all comes stretching and melting before the beat slams back in and it seems to jump higher, with extra percs and sounds that make me move. some delayed bloops give space while the hihats get denser and it swirls, going all around -- a solid groove. 02 resonance: continues, this one has a bassline! and some nice percs and buzzy voice to open the door. the rhythm kicks it for a minute, full but not full on, some warbly acid comes in from the side and begins to bubble up the drumming, but that voice keeps coming back and back. after a while, some proggy synths line up to arpeggiate the groove. then some phazed sounds to bring it home. 03 chaos infinity: nice pads and spinny drips to start. hollow knockin kick, it builds up into a ravey bump, the fx lay strewn across the top of the beat, buzzing is back, neat build, seems to go on and on, well where is it going? not that far. 04 alien resonator: more with the effected voice, fatter kick and bass this time, long pads, and crisp hihats, almost never seems to pick up too high, its a good spacer track, the drums advance, but thats about all we get in this one. 05 reality is illusion: smart sample, this song starts at 1/2 time, good warm pads and a sitar-ish sound, very spacey sounding. i like this, a female voice, smart drumming takes up the slack, only 100bpm here. ill be playing this one in chill sets, has a groove reminiscent of some saffi bros? grindy and i can picture some sexy ladies twisting hips to this. provides a cool interlude in the center of this album. 06 present continuous moment: kicks right back in, the bass is faster and the percs are crisper, more ahead. smallish acid worms start to edge in, the beat is pumping, big pads too. the sizzly instrument comes in but goes away too fast. ahh now its back, the big finish! 07 mysterious minds: another intelligent sample, a big hollow kick, very buzzy synth attacks! it coems and goes, what is going to happen!? full-on almost, when it allows itself, mad percussion and very slick. i am finally dancing in my bedroom on this one! 08 emotion code: metronomic hihats, bit more subdued. sparse, minimal. 09 trunklator: nearly funky bassline picks it up compared to that last one. odd sense of space, but the buzzing grinding lead comes back to zoom up and then the live feeling handdrums give it life. gets darker and more driving as the track builds up, almost triumphant feeling! 10 time is running out: aha!! straight into the driving full feeling, time is running out, so slam harder! "i am the master!" some very ominous sounds, hmmm what compilation was this on? i bet people would recognize this one, dark, nearly metal at times? intense, with cool effects, "time is running out for planet earth!" well thats the truth. 11 inner voice: some russian sample?! nice. we are gifted with some beautiful glissing ambient to help us return. overall this is a good release for djs, its ready to be mixed up! the home listener may become a bit bored with some tracks though, they dont have enough activity. 6.5/10 favorites 2, 5(chill), 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11(chill)
