Guest Le Lotus Bleu
Panick - Rocket Pocket Artist: Panick Title: Rocket Pocket Label: Phonokol Date: 2003 Track listing: 01. The Punisher 02. Close Range 03. Time Flash 04. Teriyaki Terror 05. Highway 61 06. Hollow Se 07. Disco Graphix 08. Mutant Academy 09. Ultramagnus Review: Some words to begin about the cover artwork which is very original & funny for a psytrance album, it seems that Panick has been martyrized by women? So, i must admit that i was fearing Panick (Nick Laniado) just to provide copycats stuffs from Psysex as he used to work with them on their Harcore Blastoff album, i can tell it?s not the case in Rocket Pocket. The Punisher puts you directly into the weird Panick?s soundscapes with a slight gloomy feeling, this guy (the punisher) doesn?t seems to be here to joke with anybody, a very cool atmospheric track to start. Close Range is more enlightened & happy with his bouncing sharpy & twisted little sound but that?s just a short impress. Come back to more harsh & dark tones with some kinda ghost samples in the background like if we were pushing the door & entering an haunted castle with some tricks inside (maybe it?s the property of the Adams familly). Time Flash focus on a groovier musical orientation, more kickin with highly metallic twisted fx on some sounds up to 2?45. Then the rythmic is dominating, made of jolts with melodies coming from several different twisted sounds all along . Triyki Terror, the name says it all, more apocalyptic feeling here with short cold org notes & icy synth liness combined with a warm falsely saturated bass, interesting antagonism. Highway 61, is a bit cliché with immitating samples of throbbing formula one engine, elseway the track is sounding more nervous as it?s reffering to a higway, logic. Now comes the best proof of the personnal musical identity of Panick (more raving with lots of fx & twisted tones & still rockin but less kickin), coz the original version was very closed to Psysex hardcore Blastoff?s trademarks. With this new version, you can easily notice the difference between Panick & Psysex builds up comparing 1st & 2nd edit of Hollow : the learner succeed to escape the formula of his teachers, well done. Disco Graphix goes on with & confirms the weird & raving musical potential of Panick with a more lightfull approach like previous track, very happy one. Now it?s time to watch some ?real tv? program, a new one named ?Mutant Academy?, you know it's about a gathering of mutants and you (watchers) had to vote to say which one had to leave or rest. These Mutants are very funny beings but they don?t really do nothing of their days except morphing into freaks. Hopefully, the musical generic is very cool, normal it?s made by Panick. I must admit i just wait this program in oder to listen daily to the excellent musical generic? Ultramagnus is another fearsome raving stuff from Panic what more to say , nothing. Favorites by order :1,8,2,3,7,6. Mark :8/
Goa Bill
One of the best full-on albums ever. Great sound and lots of crunchy sounds. Sounds like a crossbreed between the old Space Cat and Psysex. 9/
