Guest stringtheory Posted July 21, 2002 Share Posted July 21, 2002 First off, ,I am not referring to Progressive style trance. I am using the word progressive like progressive rock. Epic Goa. I once heard X-Dream - We Created Our Own Happiness described as Epic Goa. And a pleadians song off family of light, called Modulation, is definetly Epic in feel. Are there any other psytrance artists that have produced any Epic works ? Works were each part was a building block in the concept of the entire album. Like Pink Floyd, Tool, etc. I mean I think Sphongle, Hallucinogen and Celtic Cross have come close, as well as some Infected Mushroom stuff. In psytrance, almost every track is in a way, epic in scope, because each track is telling a story in a sense on its own. I am just curious if there have been any releases where the entire album was the story. Like Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Lateralus..etc... It was the stuff that was just as much for listening as for dancing. It's powerful, yet tells a story in a way, through one song or through an album. Yeah, Pleiadians was the first stuff I found to really take me on a journey (Asterope is the king of epic tracks, in my opinion). Here are a few other acts I find to be more or less epic: UX and Slide Colorbox and Bypass Unit ("Train to..." and "Dropz of...") Guest phaeton Posted July 21, 2002 Share Posted July 21, 2002 ubar tmar - true is definitely a coherent epic 'story' as an album, and it is one of my all time favourites too, but it's definitely a lot more twisted than pleiadians or x-dream so i'm not sure if you would like it think of it as one mindbending adventure in polyrhythmics .. i find it to be a truely psychedelic masterpiece but it can get pretty disturbing at times as well .. i've listened to it during a mushroom trip in the forest some time ago and it made for an enormously interesting yet also rather confronting and confusing hour, it's one of the few albums that is so dangerously powerful that it could make you end up in the loony bin so handle with care anyway i've said it before and i'll say it again, go check it out, go buy it, chaosunlimited has it for a ridiculously low price now so you can't really go wrong Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest bugbread Posted July 23, 2002 Share Posted July 23, 2002 In lines of "prog rock" concept albums, Ubartmar's new MacroMetaSomaKosmos (review up now!) is a VERY concept album. 1 song broken up into 89 tracks, all based on mathematical theory. Read the review for more. By the way, True was based on the concept of near death experience, specifically the Tibetan Book of the Dead, so it definitely qualifies as a concept album. Wonderful, but often a bit disturbing. Also, though I've never heard Goa Gil, I know he sells tapes of his live shows (5 tape or more sets, because he plays for SO long), and that his shows are based on a certain progression, though I don't know if there is a central "concept" to the extent that Dark Side of the Moon or Thick As A Brick.
