Entheogenic : Spaced Review: What a weird idea to release the 2nd Entheogenic album in such a package. I've listened to the first CD a couple of times and this stuff is as welcome as a Sars epidemic. Excellent collection of trax that show what is wrong with the psytrance scene today...Can u spell overload? The same prog, full-on and techtrance trax we've been hearing for god knows how long now. Apply if you want to add predictable psychedelic compil 2012 to your collection. However, don't trust the opinion of an Old Skooler that basically gave up on NU-psytrance that is not coming from Finland or Australia. On to the 2nd disc. The long awaited 2nd album of Entheogenic who surprised many with a thrilling chillout debut. Surprises are far and between this time as -Spontaneous Illumination- is a mere exercise in copy and paste of the debut. Loatsa familiar sounds, twists and synths. Still, entheogenic know how to craft a superb melancholic flow and Twilight Eyes is the best track they have ever done imo so its far from a disappointment. However, I think these guys will be truly amazing if they are a bit more adventurous next time and leave the sounds and synths of the debut alone. Gotta give it 8.5 though as its still miles above average.
Guest Fred
I think the first CD is ok, nothing really good or bad, but still better then some other compilations. I agree though mostly with what 1400Miles wrote about it. I probably give it a 6.5. The second CD Entheogenic's Spontaneous Illumination however is a real gem. In my opinion the best psychedelic downtempo release coming out of the trance scene ever! It really takes some time to hear what is going on here. And there is a lot going on. Ground Luminosity is a 12 min masterpiece in my opinion. 12 min. but it varies all the time, lot's of different melodies and instruments and always surprising. Habitual Overtones has some very interesting psychedelic voices and sounds, its maybe one of the most psychedelic ones on the CD. Well in short the whole album is a masterpiece and I really like all of the songs. Spaced is just the perfect song to end the album, very relaxed and calm. Great melodies, combined with interesting sounds and twists make this album a superb listening for a very long time. After listening to it for 3 weeks now I give it a clear and shiny - 10 !
