Guest Stormbringer
Zerotonine - Acid Theatre Artist: Zerotonine Title: Acid Theatre Label: Iboga Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Acid Theatre 02. Dark Entities Review: Iboga is a label that seems to follow the rule that "less is more". The Zerotonine EP "Acid Theatre", Iboga 009, is no exception from the Ibogalabelprofile but it feels more energetic and dancefloorfriendly than previous releases. "Acid Theatre" (8/10) is a minimal track with lots of grovy beats mixed with some weird voicesamples and acidic bubbly sounds slowly building and building. It doesn´t really lead anywhere but the touch of acid (which has no reletation to the silverbox!!!) makes the track sound fresh and interesting, and a dj that only plays slow zombietrance might even wake some people up with this gurgly stomper. "Dark Entries" (4/10) is more like the ususal Ibogastuff. It´s uneventful to the brim of boredom. The audioarchetecture is impressive but the result is still pretty boring, and I´ll probably never listen to this track again after I´m done with this review. If you like minimal stuff with an edge, then I´ll recommend the A-side of this record.
Guest smg
Yeah, Acid theatre is pretty good and acidic, other track is ok, but boring. I like this quite much. 8/
Guest DJ Supernova
agree with the reviews above. acid theater is pretty good with german style driving bass and tough kicks. other side is a no go.
GaySatanicHippie
I prefer the otherr side, Dark Entries, really great slow track, "Zombietrance" if you will, i still think its really well done and i'll give it 8/10. THe other one I dont know, doesnrt really go nowhere, nice female sample though...
Basilisk
Acid Theatre is one of the better minimal tunes to have come out in the big explosion of techtrance and such... quality stuff!
Guest Mescalinium
I was really into this record when I first bought it, but it hasn't fared so well with repeated listening. Acid Theatre has a heavy kick with a nice, slightly twisted bassline and some female voice samples that caused my friend to label this "the orgasm track". About halfway through, some high pitched squelchy sounds come in following a nice break with the eponymous sample thrown in. I'd play it on the dancefloor to get things moving, but there's not really that much going on. The B side Dark Entries is even more minimal, very slow and atmospheric. I actually kind of like it, but I don't think it would be to great on the dancefloor. I'll give it a 6/10. I have to say I like those "orgasm" samples even if they sometimes sound a little out of place.
Guest russ
i love that squelchy acid hook in acid theatre, and the woman's voice sample is excellent. actaully dado also used that "welcome to acid theatre" sample a while back on his first solo album. i agree that the track doesn't have great staying power, but the first time i heard it on the dance floor it knocked my socks off.
