Guest col_klink3[at]hotmail[dot]com
I'm too lazy to go track by track, rx7style has already done that. I guess I just wanted to impart to everybody the degree to which I love this album. Somehow the artist has managed to infuse the disc with a continuity that belies the variety of sound between tracks. Most obivously, the "footsteps" and watersounds for instance, are on the first and last track, carrying you in and out of this musical journey (and a journey it is!). And while the tracks may immediately sound very different, the "feel" of each track embodies characteristics of the whole (how can I name them 'cept to say that you can definitely tell they come from the same mind). I love this album, especially the title track (and the track carries a message that I think is very pertinent these days: no matter how unstoppable a tyrant or government may seem, they always fall eventually - ALWAYS). If you're looking for something that's different, something to tease your thoughts and conscience, than this album is for you. I've put it in my "chill" directory, just b/c I find the disc very relaxing, though the discord in some tracks can be off-setting to some. Refreshing.... Guest rx7style
Akasha Project - Always Artist: Akasha Project Title: Always Label: Insolation Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 03'40" Vollmond 02. 07'51" Shamanada 03. 07'40" Shining Velvet 04. 08'24" River Of Tranquility 05. 05'43" Midnight Temple 06. 06'12" Suicide Sun 07. 07'28" We All Die 08. 06'57" You Got To Love It 09. 09'20" Whales N Wave 10. 06'21" Always 11. 04'24" Venus 12. 02'43" Far Out Review: Barnim Schultze, the seasoned electronic music producer, has released yet another album. I haven't really followed his music until recently, and I must say his style is quite unique. I'm not sure if I like it yet, but it's different. This album is a mix between some spacey ambiance, and acidic psychedelia. First track is pretty spacey, and is an ambient lead into a strange track with a solid bassline. I didn't care for this track, as I mostly sat waiting through the bassline and a high-hat for something else to happen -- enter Shining Velvet: best track on the album. Darker sounding with a solid ~145BPM beat... spacey atmospheric layers are abundant, with kick-ass rhythms and melodies. This leads into a big change of pace... a chill-out track, with samples of running water, soft sounding synths, hard pounding hits on the slow and deep bassline -- very good chill-out track. Midnight Temple is great goa... yes, goa. Moving right along from one style to the next here, there are some great acid basslines, with morning melodic synths creating a very musical track. Next track sounds like some scary theme music from a movie. Slow 1-1-2 beats, with lots of synthesized melodic ambiance. Strange, yet a very good track in my opinion -- it's totally different. Next track on the Schultze roller coaster ride, very acidic again, with bouncy house beats. Lots of crazy effects and samples... very weird sounding. Very cool. The next track I really dislike as an annoying sample saying the track title over and over again. Next track isn't good either as it's too noisy and repetitive. Always is a craaazy track... very dark and scary sounding, and just weird. I can't really describe this style of music... lots of distorted sintar sounding instruments, and it's a slower track too. An absolutely crazy sounding bassline and a weird kick-drum. Whoa. The next track is just peaceful atmospheric stuff, very calm and soothing. Reminds me of Biosphere. I guess Barnim thought the listener would need a break from the craziness last track! Agreed! The last track ends with the sound of footsteps walking away from the soundstage, and again is atmospheric. I just find that this album isn't very pleasing to the ear. However, it's so different and original I'll give credit there. Some tracks are really cool, but it's so strange I'm forced to rate this album 7/10. Guest alien.from[at]spaceport[dot]goa[
shining velvet and midnight temple are quite good. the rest of the album is rather boring with lots of ambient parts. 4.5/10 akasha project can do better than that!
