Generally this is a pretty sound release. It tends to lose it with a couple of

really worthless tracks such as the way too minimal Synchro and the totally

boring minimal Gilgamesh track (is this guy really responsible for half of 4

carry nuts ?). However not all is lost and the Slinky Wizard and guss till

tracks take on a stompy build up feel-nice, while Tim Shuldt takes the cake

with an absolute tear jerker (just beautiful) and Noosphere is a real stomper.

Avatar bring us back down with a nice trancey/dubby track. If it wasnt for the

minimal spread through it Id give it a cool 9 but because it does Ill have to

stick with a 7/10

This is a compilation like many others: some minimal sound, not so many new

sounds..nothing REALLY inventive....ah yes the tracks are all average or good,

but what can distinguish it from the score of other compils released lately ??

: Mainly 2 tracks: MOS - Komm Das and especially MidiMiliz - Cream which is a

true killer. Its minimal but it's so well done and dark that i'd forget i

don't like minimal !!! 7/10 for the whole compil, but remember the Midimiliz

Track. the compil should be bought only for it.

Review:

Behind the scenes is a compilation released by Atomic records. Tracks have

been selected by Marc Van Der Vlugt. If you don't know him, this german is

one of the best trance DJ and he's involved in psytrance since a long time.

Honestly, the playlist was not exactly my taste...but when I heard it I was

amazed !! what a good selection, all tracks fit together like a good album

!!! (as in a Marc VDV set :-) So, let's start...

First track is MOS - "Komm das", and it starts with some little sounds ready

to blow up....here we go, a perfect track for the dance floor to dance and

dance and dance again... This track could have been made by Psychaos and The

Delta together... Next track is Synchro - " Elektrik" , which is also the

"title-track" from the last Synchro album, weird sounds, filters effects, a

nice kick, then the bassline come in the middle of the track, not the best

track of the compilation, the bassline is not fantastic, but not bad too. T 3

is Slinky Wizard - "Hit & run" , not a bad track :-) Next track is

Gilgamesh - "Sextant" , you will like it if you like powerfull effects and a

good rythm...maybe the bassline is a little bit monotonous ? Anyway, I like

the Drum'n'bass sound and the vocal sample. And now, ready to listen to

killers tracks ? T 5 is Four Carry Nuts feat DJ Alex - "Halogen"...you will

recognize Tim Shuldt work here...very nice beat, good electric guitar samples

and even a Wah-wah !!! Dark pads and a rythm that change everytime....boring

is a word that Tim shuldt doesn't know. Another killer track is Midi Miliz -

"cream". Remember The delta album ? this track could have been there...

thoses guys like power + dark. Very very far from cheesy stuff.... Don't

panic, this is only music ;-) Track 7 is Noosphere -

"Kaleidoscopter"...starts with a scary pitch bend effect then hard synth

sounds, then the groovy rythm comes...very good track. Next track is Bus -

"Night Tripper". Usually I don't like bus track, but there.... hey, Marc VDV,

where do you find such tracks ? I like this heavy rythm and the melody and

the vocal sample. The last Track is Avatar - "Machine Life (dub mix)", a

remix from this classical track created by Pete Martin and guess who ? Marc

Van der Vlugt, the master himself !! :-)

So, a very good compilation, best tracks are 1,5,6,7,8,9 and there is no bad

tracks.

I have heard all the ATOMIC-compilations and this is probably the best one. The

Midimiliz track "Cream" takes the Tech-trance-sound to another level. It´s

still rough, pounding and grinding beats but now with a touch of atmosphere

too! The minimal tracks by Gilgamesh and MOS are great too but the rest of the

compilation doesn´t interest me so much. Three very good tracks out of

eight... still far better than what you could expect from any compilation. 8/10

Just another release, nothing more to say. MOS, MidiMiliz, and Noosphere made

this cd look better, but they just made it from ok to nice.

Very nice comp! from dark to melodic psytrance, it works on the dancefloor :

two real dark tech-trance tracks, from Mos & Midi Miliz (have to be listened

through a BIG sound system :o)) but here i found two masterpieces done by Four

carry nuts & Dj Alex and the other by Noosphere, simply perfect ! Favourites :

1,3,5,6,7. a big 8/10
