max
Deviant Electronics - Blunt Instruments Artist: Deviant Electronics Title: Blunt Instruments Label: Blue Room Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 08'23" Babelfish 02. 09'03" Free Radical 03. 06'55" Loud And Clear 04. 08'09" Suspense Hypothesis 05. 06'32" Swollen Goods 06. 03'08" On The Beach 07. 08'40" Tesco Siesta 08. 07'24" Silverside 09. 07'36" Blunt Instruments Review: No hesitations...Mars won't agree for sure but for me this album is a masterpiece!!! A pure unforgettable trip. People who like Seb Taylor/Digitalis no need to search more...this is what you must get. Incredible pychodelic breakbeat. You may think YAK!!!! breakbeat!!!!....but this is breakbeat in the "Sphongle" meaning.... This album is far far from the first one which was more 4/4. But if you liked Vesuvius (in Dance, Trance & Magic Plant) or Phenomenon Anon (Travelling 5), you will like this album!!! Best tracks are Babelfish and Swollen Goods...try to listen them to have an idea of the album. I must say this album is much more psychedelic than any other release this year. I don't take drugs but if one day i change my mind, i will try them with that album in background!!! This album is either ugly, either genious. Close your eyes, pierce the membrane and bath in the LIGHT. As this Cd was released in 2000 i've asked Children to modify my 2000 TOP 5 to put it inside. 9.5/
mars
No no nooo i don't agree at all !! This is no shpongle..this is much simpler breakbeat/electro. Remember this album has absolutely nothing to do with the first Deviant Electronics one!! Anyway i must admit that -for a breakbeat album- that's good. But that's NOT psychedelic. That's what BueRoom has been providing us with for more that one year. That's probably for those who don't like full on and that don't like minimalistic psytrance either !!! freak51
This is definitely on the freekstyle tip; they've totally changed their sound from 1995, and haven't been lazy about their progress (are you reading, Astral Projection?). It's interesting musically, but it doesn't really appeal to me: it's maybe more busy than it needs to be. They have talent and the next record may be worth checking out. Guest [Anonymous]
EXCELLENT, SIMPLY AMAZING, BUY IT, TRUST ME!!
Insejn
Wow! This is excellent! Breakbeats at it best I guess :-) I have never heard this kind of music before. It's seems to be a mix between many styles. And I must say that the mix came out GOOD! What a sound! The tracks on this CD is very different to each other I think. Some of them are calm, ambient, with piano and stuff and others are fast and psychedelic with many freaksounds . Useually when you hear a track on a CD you have an idea of how the whole cd will sound like, but not on this CD. You never know what you going to hear next. When you have played the CD, it's impossible to not play again, again and again. Buy it! 9.5/
Guest iNFiNiTi500
Another soldier deserting true Goa-ism with Prodigy/Plasticman style breakbeats and some typical psychedelic sounds thrown in for good measure but it works amazingly well. One of the more daring releases which could influence the future path of psytrance 'cause Deviant Electronics is not alone in blending genres lately. Certainly one of the better experimental efforts without losing track of melody and song structure. Songs seem to improve after each listen. -- 9/10 --
Guest Koirraaah
Good CD, but a bit repetitive. Trancelike peacefulness all over, stuff you want to listen while reading a book or coding your latest module or perl script. 9/
Guest ir0nm0nk3y
I finally managed to get a hold of this one recently. Its definitely a big departure from their previous material. It wavers between breakbeat and slow drum&bass both of which I like. If you enjoy either of those styles then you should get this disc. Its not at all psychedelic but its very good just the same. 8.5/
Guest Psylent Buddhi
This is fucking nice! Not "shpongly", it's not that abstract. It's more breakbeats/drum'n'bass with some trancy riffs and beautiful chordpads thrown on top! It's somewhat melodic in a quite melancholic way! But it makes me smile anyway! :-) Plurries - Psylent Buddhi

Guest squid[at]born-on-a-pirate-ship[d
awesome music, absolutely excellent for chilling. nothing too challenging or complicated but there's a masters touch on the sound, which is especially noticable in the title track with its extremely subtle rhythmic dynamics. my favourite one here is tesco siesta for the beautiful spanish melodies... i hope mr walsh still makes some trancey stuff as well.. Guest shpongledboy[at]hotmail[dot]com
Beautiful music, intelligent, fresh... 98%/100%
Guest Dr Rhythm
At the end of the day this is just a little bit too nice. There are much better things to chill to and this one is a bit unsatisfying after a few listens. 'First Machine' from the first CD is still one of my favourite tracks but this collection gets a 6/10 despite the excellent production. Guest elvisbigpelvis[at]yahoo[dot]com
be prepared for a jungle/breakbeat album, I am a fan none the less of deviant electronics early trance recordings and now this new album. Especially BABELFISH what an intro! 8 of
Basilisk
One of my all-time favourites! There isn't really anything else like it... quality music!
Guest [Anonymous]
What is there to say?? Simply good production with excellent tracks that can really get you in a good mood. The story is very well built and every track has it´s own theme. And not to mention the sound which is prime.. Not a lot of people in the trance-scene who can accomplish something like that. 10/

Guest psyentist
track 3 is a favourite on the down dirty raw floor stomping, very nice some good changes during the hole scene of the cd, groovie mind twisting turns in the atmosphere THIS IS GREAT, just like before
Guest dysphemia
This album includes good chilling moods filled with freeking sounds... A Breakbeat, almost a Drum&Bass atmosphere but much better on this peaceful album...
Guest rx7style
Why did this album evade me for so long... it's so damned good! The funkiest shit next to Shakta/Digitalis, with deep groovy synths and melodies. Kind of dark, but it's really lightened by breaks, D&B, funk, and sometimes ambient style. Unfortunately, the last track "Blunt Instruments" is very boring, but it does have some soothing synths. I don't know what "On The Beach" was either, there were drums with "tribal" sounds for only a few minutes... and then into a lighthearted track with flutes everywhere. Interesting transition. However, "Silverside" is a great track, it kind of reminds me of the highest quality game music you'd ever hear... splendid. "Loud and Clear" is definitely breakbeat style, and very well done at that. Impressive rhythm and beautiful layering effects. I really like breakbeat with hard techno influences... again, fantastic. All other tracks are good, but the ones that stand out for me are: 2,3,4,7,8. 9/10 for intelligent music!
Guest TJ
This is not really psy-trance , but its excellent music anyway. Maybe psy-beats or soemthing. It sounds good. Like other Blueroom stuff such as Alien and maybe Signs of Life series.

seraph
This is good album but it lacks some deeper emotions and some excitement...technically is great, has some good melodies and great breakbeat but same with some too much empty, melancholical emotions that actually puts you down....by the end of it I mean. 6/
Guest elhombrerana[at]wanadoo[dot]es
yeah yeah yeah................ ¿more bands like this?
Guest Visi()n
Yes, Ciaran Walsh definetly has changed his style, but the quality of his music staied as high as it was since his first album was released. Ofcourse it isn't psy & goa anymore, this music has it's own deep and groovy charcter. It suit's for improving and healing your mental atmosphere. It will help you to be deep in your thoughts & dreams. Espeacially when you are dreaming about a nice girl/boy, because most of the tracks are very romantic. So enjoy this music. Also visit Deviant Electonics web site(there is a link on it in goa links), that has interesting flash design and check out other projects by C. Walsh, first of all "Bunker Din - a pocket epic". I hope he continue creating such a good music. P.L.U.R.
