Guest emmy22f[at]hotmail[dot]com
Bonky - Bonky Artist: Bonky Title: Bonky Label: Doof Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. Flight 02. Spooky 03. Mandy 04. Bank 05. 1001 06. Lab 07. Bubble 08. Hong Kong 09. Tequilla Review: Before we get to the review, let me say that the cover to this album is the ugliest fucking thing I've ever seen in my life. Jesus Christ! May all the devils take me this second if the world has ever seen such a horrible thing..... T1 Makes you think you're on a bad trip in outer space. Distortion and subtle D&B influences throughout the track. A decent start.... T2 Bizarre intro. Gives you the impression you're playing a psychedelic video game(and someone should invent one). Develops into a bunch of weird samples that are quite histerical. The track gets more twisted after the first half. Cool sounds Onno uses.... T3 Yet another strange intro. The track itself is quite simple with nothing that really stands out. The thought behind it, however, is quite original.... T4 Starts with a sample from a Western flick, accompanied by a sinister laugh that carries on. The track itself is very dancefloor oriented, and is infested with sapmles like most of the album.... T5 Dark. Bonky is starting to get into his rhythm and this track is definately something you want to hear at a forrest party at 3 in the morning. In fact, this track, unlike the earlier ones, stays consistent in its sounds from beginning to end and progresses very nicely.... T6 Less samples and more music. About as dark as T5 and pretty much in the same style.... T7 Pretty much what you'd get if Vernunft was on uppers.... T8 Back to the samples again. Starts with a chant that really has nothing to do with the rest of the track. Onno is being weird and showing us his unique style. The chant reappears after some major plug-in work is done on it. I find this track very very cool because of the twisted atmoshphere it brings. In fact, it's full on psychedelic and gets my vote for best track of the whole album.... T9 Starts with a funny sample that talk about the origins of Tequilla. This one you have to judge for yourself, I find it pretty damn cool for me. One thing is for sure though, Onne is definately from Amsterdam..... All in all, a very good release. Before you buy this one, keep in mind that Bonky is really different from a lot of other artists. The music is really rough around the edges(intentionally), dark and demented at times, and hell of trippy. This album reminds me of the Bonky and FOL release from a few years ago and the Zirkin album from last year. Aside the hideous cover, the music really works on me.... 6/10 for tracks 1-4; 9/10 for tracks 5-

Guest moander[at]media[dot]mit[dot]edu
this is a tad better than the tracks on the FOL album, but not by much... Imagine someone putting a kick and a bassline and then put samples randomly, starting acid lines and ending them abruptly, and just plain being unstructured... that's the key word here folks... no structure. Guest [Anonymous]
Moander, that's exactly what Bonky does with his music. It's not by chance or because he doesn't know what the hell he's doing, it's on purpose. I can see you're point of view though, but Bonky is totally anti structure. For some people that really works.....

Guest GoaGabba
I LOVE BONKY. I dig the roughness of his sounds. All songs are brilliant on this one. The cover, well the cover is a bit in your face, but people, take the CD out of the cover. All them little B's under the CD tray work like one of them 3D pictures. Just squint your eyes a bit and wahla, your cd cover gains more depth. Very trippy, have fun.
Guest combeferre
This music reminds me of mexico not in a pistolero sort of way, but for it's wacky and hectic contradictions. 2nd best thing I heard recently, after loopus in fabula
Guest kamisama30[at]hotmail[dot]com
Getting a little tired of those people trying to make the "grunty"-minimal sound. This doesnt work at all, if your trying to copy Deviant Species, fine go ahead but for sure make a better job of it-not dance floor friendly really-3/
Guest theorem
Well, what can you say about this guy but: "Bonky will be Bonky," and God bless him for that! This album really needed to be made, for all the minimal-acid/psychedelic freaks out there.... Yeah, the cover sucks, or does it? Yeah, it does, but hey, what'cha gonna do? Track two is fucking sick, and track seven is every DJ's dream, a good beat, with some groovy ass electronic bleep that kinda sounds like a cowbell. If you want whirling synthlines, deep melodies, and actual musical structure, look somewhere else (Talamasca perhaps), but if you want some fatass acid lunacy, check this one. I give it a 9/10 just because it was there. If you like the Bonky/FOL CD, or "Acid Test" from Doof records, definitly check this out, and if you don't, well, don't get this, 'cause you will probably post some lame-ass review saying how much it sucks because you don't quite understand it. Guest Smarthowie
One of the best cd`s I`ve heard actually!! I love his style, his unique sounds & basslines, my favourites here are 4,6,5,7,2,1,8......... wELL, actually, I like every track here, and I think this one is better than Bonky:Fungus Of Light. The cover is cool, by the way, I saw many people in here wrote some lame shit about your cover--It`s cOOl!! Suits the music... I haven`t heard Zirkin:Dance Show, can anyone tell me if it`s good? I`m going to buy it anyway... Great work Bonky, I am going crazy to yOur music !!!
