Guest Stormbringer
Tetraktys - Capricorne / Atrophy Artist: Tetraktys Title: Capricorne / Atrophy Label: Sub Machine Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Capricorne 02. Atrophy Review: "Atrophy" (10/10) I´m in heaven!!! This sounds like something I dance to in my wildest dreams. I predicted years ago that this extremely harsh and furious mix between several different genres would eventually be created, and if I ever stop to spend all of my money solely on records this is how I want my own music to sound. I would be very proud if I could create anything like this so I bow before you Tetraktys (Vincent Courcot & Olivier Blard). Your record has earned a very special place in my collection!!! This is the kind of stuff that gives you a spontaneous nosebleed just by touching the record sleeve, and this track would most certainley be hasardous for any old people just walking by your window when your´re playing it on your homestereo, so be aware! If I compare "Atrophy" with the powerful sound of the latest Delta album, then this is more aggressive but not as dark. Think of The Delta as a Tank crushing every bone in your body when it runs you over and imagine Tetrakys more like a rocket-launcher in your face ;-) "Capricorne" (9/10) is an incredible track too but it isn´t as interesting and not as aggressive as "Atrophy". I like the gallop-beat though! This is the fourth release from the french label SUB MACHINE RECORDS but it doesn´t sound french at all. If I had anything to do with the D.DRUM-label, then writing a contract with Tetraktys would be my first priority. It´s too soon to put "Atrophy" in a high position on my top ten of all time but it´s certain that it belongs on that list! There´s no question that "Atrophy" is the track of the year so far, and I can´t think of any other release threatening that position. BUT it´s more than a month left of this year so I wait before I pronounce a winner!
ukiro
I agree that this is absolutely brilliant stuff (didn't I tell you about this EP a while back stormbringer? but I wouldn't compare it to d.drum. The stuff from Delta and other d.drum acts is much more sober, while this is insanity gone wrong, sort of. I'd rather compare it to another french label, turbo trance records. This, however, is harder, darker, noisier and most importantly; better. There's a compilation coming out on sub machine records soon with 2 new tetraktys tracks (Ptah and Odyssey). I really look forward to that compilation. This EP gets a solid 9/10 from me, which is very very rare :-)
Guest Stormbringer
I´ve now decided to put "Atrophy" at number five on my all-time-toplist. The reason for comparing this ep with the label D.DRUM is that I can´t think of any other psy-label releaseing any harder music. The nastiest stuff comes from D.DRUM in my opinion :-) If SUB MACHINE RECORDS release something more as lethal as this ep in the future then we have a new "king of the hill" :-D All dancemusic evolves rapidly and I know that much harder Trance than this will eventually be created by someone who comes from another direction. Imminent (Starvation) is an example of an artist who allready has made some really (INSANELY) brutal stuff, but I don´t have to tell Ukiro about him! He allready knows everything he needs to know ;-) "Tentack One" and "Tentack Two" from the "North" LP must be two of the hardest trance-tracks made. I hope that people don´t missunderstand me know. Imminent doesn´t make psy-trance! I just want to say that we should expect even harder music in the future. That might not necessarily mean that it will be any better than the trance we have today. Look at the technoscene... "Gabber" ... Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! That´s a joke!
Guest Cnt97
GREAT EP! Atrophy is GREAT, not just minimal.. But hard, upbuilding psychedelic trance at it's best!
