Guest Goa Spirit
V/A - Catcher Artist: Various Title: Catcher Label: Aurinko Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Faithealers : New Breed 02. Spies : Spiritual 03. D-Fundation : Quantam Glow 04. Three Point Turn : Point Blank 05. Dark Soho : Aggressive 06. Tim Schuldt : Pale 07. Dodgy Connection : DJT 08. Four Carry Nuts : Lucy (Male) Review: The Long Awaited sequel to Score is out, and i have to say it was worth the wait... in this day of minimalism (which i do enjoy sometimes) it is very refreshing to hear a new release in good old dark psychedelic style. A very deep compilation with loads of dark complex sounds and groovy basslines (no 150 bpm bop. bop. sounds here) It starts off with a very nice opening track by Faithealers, a great track to start a set (nicely downtempo). this one is DARK!! things just keep happening in this track.. crazy!! very hard to describe.. but listen to it and you will understand. track 2 continues where the first left off,, very different song this reminded me a bit of the 'london' acid techno music , a lot of wierd sounds in this track.. d-fundation follows with a more goa track with a nice driving bassline, pace has picked up by now and we can hear the kickdrum in good effect.. lovely voice sample after 3:00, definite mind blowing territory.. 3 point turn is up next and i am sure this will be liked by a lot of people.. i however didn't like it that much (too simple compared to the rest of the tracks imo). however then comes one of my favorites of the album DARK SOHO.. aggresive is a killer like all dark soho tracks.. that distinct ds bassline and if you liked sun spot rest assured you will like this.. you will be hearing this in the future. The music is full on now and who better than tim schuldt to follow.. the german nutter has created a very crazy track here.. the trademark ts guitars, mixed with a very silly/playfull kind of bassline (in a good way). This one is madness, the kind of track that blows my mind (alien music).. Very psychedelic! Dodgy Connection is following and here we get a nice full on track.. very complex sounds exploding all over the place. the cd ends with a great track by four carry nuts.. i was expecting a mellow track to end the album, but this one is a stomper (prolly one of the hardest in the entire album) another killer track!! So on the whole a great release from aurinko and worth the wait. The masters of dark crazy psy are back in town... this is the kind of music i first fell in love with in goa, now all i need is a nice album from astral projection and i will be happy again..On the downside - the album is only 60 minutes long.. but otherwise this is awesome and i give it a 8.5/10.. just buy it if you like psy trance :-) bom shankar! max
Very good compilation...not cheesy...not too minimalistic...the perfect equilibrium i guess.
mars
I prefer tracks 5 6 7 8 rather than nb 1 2 3 4, but it's a good compil. The style remains hard, but not minimal. 6.5/
Guest dmt[at]buttonmoon[dot]c
this is OK.. but nothing special. a bit too soul-less, just goodish dark psy-techno. stand out track is tk6 the rest is average...mark 6/
cymoon
I really like Faithealers track and Dark Soho too...Tim Schuldt suprised me with his rock guitar track :-).....Dodgy Connection and Four Carry Nuts are deep psychedelic techno party killers................D.Fundation and 3.Turn are too much techno for me, I dont like stuff like that........7/
Guest Nois
Too much techno, eh? WHY (ALMOST) EVERYONE HERE WANTS TO HEAR THE SAME SOUNDS FOR EVER? I got a little bored by the 'good old full-on style' already, maybe I've listened to it for too long... Minimal trance is a new psychedelic way and I think we have to accept it as something that can keep the psychedelic music alive... In my opinion the comp is pretty good, highlights are 2,4,6,7... And the track by spies is absulutely one of the best tracks I've heard recently... Overall 8/
Narwhal
Auriko brings us a lot of experiments with this catcher. Not experiments in a sense that you need to run away from it, tough. Some very appealing tracks at the first listening, the others need time to grow. My favourites 1,2,6,7. The Dark Soho track is also very good, but it is very different. If you are in for an aural and neural adventure, just check it out or better check in and welcome on board! Guest To: Nois
Well, we say that it is refreshing to hear a non minimal release because recently a very large portion of stuff released has been minimal. Hence, for those of us who like to hear different sounds and not only one style of music, releases like this are very refreshing. Something different from the everyday releases of late.. now if all producers started to make only psy-techno, well then i would say that it was refreshing to hear a minimal release... point being- i, and a whole lot of others like to hear new sounds and kind of get bored if all releases sound the same eg- yumade, parasense etc. So its nothing against minimal trance.. Guest foot_e
Minimal, full-on, dark, goa, all useless pointless categories. It's music. Listen, dance and enjoy! if you don't then sit or turn it off. Why do we have to pigeonhole everything? anyway i want this album asap.
Guest Ubik
Pointless categories, sure, but we "have to pigeonhole everything" so that others reading this can at least figure a little what it sounds like even if it's bound to fail... Just to let the potential buyers know that there's a double cd version (japanese edition) of this one for about the same price, the second cd containing older 12" releases. Just got it, will review soon.
Guest Rumz
Only just got this one.. sorry to bring it up again.. but when i first listened i thought.. hmm a bit minimal for me, but nope, this one goes much deeper into dark evil psy... very seductive it just gets better with some wicked rhythms, and the bass is great especially on the 3.turn track , favourites have to be Pale-Tim schudlt and the Dark soho track.. overall 8/
Guest Hideaki Tojo
If you ever liked the original donuts version and thought it was pretty fucking awesome, well listen to the cleaned up version on the Japanese release version of Catcher-just fucking wicked!! Guest baboon
might be the most evil comp I own... *MINIMAL TERROR TECH-TRANCE!!!* BOLIBOMPA !
Guest kadafi
I like this release, even though I don't find a real KILLER on it... It's a perfect blend of German maximal and some more minimal tracks, all with the DARK MYSTERIOUS Tim Schuldt atmosphere of course... Best tracks imo: Tim Schuldts Pale (i heard this one a lot lately, it doesn't bother me the guitar is overused because the track's just great! i like that lion sample!)...DJT and Lucy Male are also my favorites...other good tracks: 1,3&5...I haven't heard the Score compil yet, I have the slightest feeling it's better than Catcher... 7/

Guest janek
The Tim Schuldt song Pale sounds to me like a death metal song in disco rhythm..)

Guest MG
I have found the Japanese version new, in plastic, being a double CD for what amounts to $14US. it can be considered superfluous to add that I am very happy. Don't you just love finding things like that? If precedent suggests anything, it suggests that this will be one of those CD's that just leave you speechless
