Admire the nicely presented full colour booklet again - this time dealing with the chakra journey. Musically, this doesn?t kick it so much for me, a lot of the music is just rather too anonymous. I love RTTS and a lot of the energy that they put into the scene, this just seems a little flat nowadays.
Anoebis
This CD is lots better then the first one (deep trance and ritual beats)!!! Specially CD1!!! There's only one bad song on it (2) but when you hear that track of the Green Nuns Of The Revolution you go crazy, and it's the same for track 1,4,7&10!! The second CD is indeed not as good as the first one... But it's still a fine collection of chill and Ambient!! best songs on CD2 are 1,5,7&9 And the art-work is wonderful!! You have even a complete book in your CD with information about ALL the groups of this CD, about chakra's, about the Goa-scene,... Great work of RTTS! Guest djonanis[at]hotmail[dot]com
When I first listened to this compilation I should say I understood the meaning of trance meditation. An awesome and classic material. Although I agree with psychedelicgav in the sense that it now sounds a bit flat.
Guest AlexG
yes, there were times when 90% of the tracks on a compilation simply kicked ass! unfortunately, those times are long gone, and now we're lucky if we get 25% quality material on a cd, but this compilation belongs to the first kind. 9/

Guest [Anonymous]
Goa psychedelic trance and ambient in the old days are the best. There are so much more in them than albums now. Especially the ambients songs from the past are always so much more spiritual. You can just tell the artists seriously believe in what they've expressed in the songs. This cd is a great example of that. Truely amazing classic comp.

Somseensee
Introduction RTTS: For starters return to the source is a story on itself. In my opinion this label represents what old school goatrance music and parties should be about. I present you the intro text from the 80 page booklet provided with the album. This booklet contains information on some artists and little story about the chakra journey and the use of trance music in this mind-expanding and transcending moments. Here is the intro text: Return to the Source Moving beyond the spirals of time We return to the source of love divine As we dance as one with the forces of creation The sleeping serpents will be awakened With these snakes of creation our souls will entwine To dance this ritual buried deep Within our collective mind Opening our hearts we surrender to the dance One tribe united We journey into trance In this temple of love we will dance as one One body One mind One heart Let the journey start… Well I think that this is the ultimate feeling that drives me to parties nowadays too. That search for oneness on the peak of a party. People, colors, sound, smell and You become one mind/energy that transcends time and space for that unique feeling of being all or none at once. The hope that artists (dj or live) make the story fit so well that it takes me with them on a journey through trance-music and climaxes. For such an experience you need good music, good placing of tracks and peaks and the power to let go things that don’t matter at that point in time. The Return to the Source parties in the good old days (95-98) and especially the one mentioned in the booklet were filled with good music and lots of celebrating people. Maybe take a look at some RTTS party reviews or info on the net. Most tracks on this album, you’ll only find on this Return to the Source release. The music: -Let me take you through some of the tracks of the goatrance disc: • Medicine Drum – Ulhuru : This is the opening track it contains some tribaldrums that continue through the track. Quirking sounds an small melodic samples make it a nice sounding trancy whole. The track lacks a bit of power and melody for the dance floor but could be a nice opener. • Mamal – Tanuga : I think this track is kinda boring, it lacks power and kick to be on the goatrance side. • Doof – H2Om : Well this sounds very much like most doof when I look at the sounds being used, but this one also lacks power, acid sounds etc… • Prana – Prominence : This is typical prana (style cyclone etc.), fast moving melodic sounds, short melodic pieces with enough rhythm to keep you moving. Anyway lots of small spiraling samples so good music imo. • G.N.O.T.R. – Fire : The track is called fire and the chakra point is the solar plexus, so not Plexus Fire… This is a good UK acidspinning track, the way we know the nuns. Good intense stuff for dance floor peaks, very strong drive that makes you bump. • Transwave – Anahata : For me this is maybe the best track on the album. Pure transwave, typical sharp sounds and strong bassline. It starts strong and the build up is good and not too long. I always like the more background sounding uplifting melodies or samples they use. It takes you to a smooth climax with an excellent melody, this is what I really enjoy, a strong, good and a bit rough sounding climax. Superb! • Cosmosis – Telekinetic : This is playfull cosmosis, not the heavy acid music. More use of melodic samples like in gift of the gods but less intense. In all this is a good track but far from excellent. • Outer Active – Aesophagus Fables : Most of you probably know OA from v/a -D.T.M.P, this is mediocre track and has for me some annoying sounds going through and it lacks some structure. Anyway not bad but they could have done more with the sounds. • Universal Sound – Third I : An electric track to say the least, twisted track with lots of electricity and strong drive but misses completer melody or needs to be more full (more sounds in the box). • Mindfield – Cosmic Courier : Besides the last 1.30 min this is tooo boring for me. -To be short about the ambient disc: Mostly beat less tracks that aren’t that liquid or psychedelic enough imo. Well some tsjingel-tsjangel and smooth flowing melodies for nice background music. But for me the ambient isn’t really like floating through psychedelic landscapes. What is it then you ask…? music to relax in a chillout, so you can talk with some friends and don’t get bothered or really drawn in. Conclusion: Disc 1: The goatrance disc contains some fillers and some excellent tracks in my opinion.Well I can say that for me ½ of tracks are more than ok and not that easily to find on other comp’s so that makes it a worth buy for me on the music part. This disc gets a 7/10 for me in all with some 10/10 tracks on it like the Transwave. Disc 2: Well nice ambient nothing more and nothing less and surely not the trippy kind. Smooth background music in all. 7/10 This album contains some nice music from the good old days (aka old school). Some tracks are only released on this album and make this a goody for all the lovers of the old spirit. The thingy that gives this piece extra value besides the releases is the nice 80 page booklet about the Chakra journey, trance music, parties and artists. All in all a nice album for starters and people who still enjoy the roots of it all. Final point : 8/10 for the collection worth!
