Guest Chr.obli.me
Here is for you the little preview i made one month ago on a list: "Let me premise that minimal is not my cup of tea, but imho Chrome is a step ahead from Nitrox. Those who loved Nitrox, will definitively like this new CD For being minimal, it has some tracks well arranged and with lots of sound-layers (perhaps am i converting to minimal ? -The opening track ("Alpha-Omega") is one of my preferred and listening to it, it gives you good hopes for the remaining tracks. -But "Solaris" and "1056" bring us immediately to a more dark minimal, especially the last one ("1056") with its sub-basses..veeery deep... but i find funny (in a positive way) that "driiin" sample - a bicycle bell ?? - and at the end of the track some acid distorted sequences appears ) -"Black Lava" and "Traktor Activity" remind me some of Nitrox atmosphere (personally boring and repetitive, but as i premise etc., etc.) -"The Object (live mix)" has a good beat with some sweeping 303 notes on it... not exceptional but very powerful. if your ass lies immobile listening to it, you're certainly a living-dead =) -"Liquid Forms" is the other good track i like. Finally acid corrupted sequences find a new way to express themselves in such a polished chromatic world ;P Dance dance dance this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Not satisfied by "Liquid Forms"!?? "Are we safe?" gives you an help on tearing off your few untouched brain cells and inoculating us a trance silver fluid virus in our synaptic connections. We are part of Chrome world!!!! -"Blasting!" is not a slow downtempo or chill or ambient as we have got used by Etnica. It's the confirm of our transformation into robots for the incoming rebellion (mmhh.. i've already heard this before . the attack plans are transferred in our semi-organic brains (at 3:38 - Winamp playing time). Blast and Faster than light-speed!! Now We Know Our Mission. (end title fades out) =) So we MUST convince ourselves that Etnica won't create anymore those full-on melodic stuff.... they are trying to renew their style, trying to be always actual (following the most recent tendencies). ok! I think i'm tripping too much now... end of TranceMission." So, in other words, Chrome better than Nitrox (i'm refering to the minimal part of it - the chill/ambient rocked!!), and forgetting the "old" full-on period i give it a 7/10. I'll surely order my copy.
draeke
Obli did the trick here. is the most sensed and correct reviewer of the album. the thing is that the scene is different form 96-97. Live sets are different, drugs has insomewhay changed its appearence to the parties. i say that cause i see what is happening at the parties. so from the old psychedelic days where everyone was on acid and loved to hear the psychedelic sounds, we turned to a wolrd of cocaine, extasy, crack and weed. That stimulates more and more the need of dark and powerful vibes. That is in my opinion (and i swear ONLY as i see it) what affected most the scene and made everyone turning to minimal. For me, not being under any influence, i just say i love much more th e96 sound but i dig some new experiments, and as young say chrome is well produced and has at least 3 very good trax (that u all know). so take care and listen what ureally like. Guest Elizabeth[at]goatrance[dot]com
So sad to see how some people are afraid of change. I guess I say that since Etnica has always been by far my favorite, but artists have the freedom to change. Look at Infected Mushroom. Both Etnica & them can do something totally different & make it sound so good. Etnica has been around for a long time. But this album has something new in it: ITS CALLED GROWTH! True, given it is not their absolute best album but it's still fun stuff. There is a lot of other s#%t released as "psy" that sounds like complete trash. Oh yeah - & I really liked the bangin' basslines on all the songs. I give this album a 9/10.

necro
ok this is very very good. i've been listening to it for a month now, and it definatley grows on you. EXTREMELY INNOVATIVE,melodies constructed through ryth,a totally new sound coming from etnica who seem to be very far ahead from most of the goa listening public, (atleat it appears from these reviews). Guest Neil
I do like this album quite alot, no it's not like old style Etnica but they produce how they feel at the time.Yes the whole album is full on but they have released alot of ambient/chill of late as Etnica, PSOI etc. They are releasing new Pleadians stuff soon so i look forward to that. Sometimes it feels good to listen to an album that does not let up. I love the last track. 9/10.
Guest Steven Keating
I think you get the general overall impression that its bollox-If a lot of people are slagging a particular release then you can reasonably be assured that it is bollox. In this case the majority win-it is bollox.
Fredrik
Chrome is the best Etnica ever. I love it!!!
Guest [Anonymous]
This is probably the WORST album of this year and its a reality.. as an old Etnica fan I can now truly admit that they are finished. 0/
fosku
too average minimal. highlights: tracks 2,4,

Guest JDPatch
This feels darker and more Cyber than Psy. Cleverly chosen samples chained to the right amount of melody complementing one another creating a futuristic/uneasy/uncertain theme without cheesy solos or appregio-,with quite a few of those sublimely allusive vocal patches - This lot seem to have the right hardware. The pitch increases for each track in sequence ,about track three ,the hairs on the back of my neck rose ak-a Etnica inspired flash-forward/back -ruuuuusssssh .For the more seasoned prescriber;)-a few classic Logans' run vocal ?messages? in some tracks - stuff the gabba crowd and 1st 'experience' thrill seekers may not appreciate . Altogether , refreshingly dark not minimal from this genre ,i defy you not to tap your feat! Better on phones than PA ! -
Guest Raynor
This album has it's moment..not the best album...but still worth the money spent on it. Recommended album? Yes! Solaris, 1056, Black lava, Are we safe? and Blasting! totally rocks..the rest is kind of boring... 7/
FTP
It's very important on which mood u are at when listening to this album. Sometimes i think that this cannot stand to their older stuff and find it boring, so don't listen to this album when u are stoned or sentimental. But when i have a shit load of work to do, this album gets me going, it stimulates your brain very well, there are a lot of new elements after each listen. Best are Blasting! and Are we safe? If whole album sounds like these songs it would be 9.5/10. Overall is flowing sw. between 7-8. The following Sharp album is much more mature, so this one could be like bridge between OLD and New Etnica, hopefully....
Jon Cocco
UGH...what happened?? This is just awful. If you want quality, good ETNICA music, put ALIEN PROTEIN or EQUATOR back on. This is pretty bad.

This is pretty bad. 623049[/snapback] Bullshit! You expected their old sound and this isn't it, but on it's own merits it is really good, compared to many other minimal crap released in this period. Especially the 'Western Edition' kicks some major ass, because it has all the best tracks from this version + couple of other, more melodic & acidy ones. Get over it - Etnica & Pleiadians from the old days are gone and stop expecting them to do what they used to. I'm sure that even with all 4 members, their music would be different than it was back in 96-98... [/off-topic]

It sucks when artists lose edge because it changes peoples awesome impression of them. I doubt I'll look back the same way on Etnicas newer stuff in 5 years as I do with their earlier stuff, coz earlier stuff impressed me right away. Etnica used to be great IMHO, but Pleiadians were amazing. But to say they were really good?? Okay fine...and a napkin is really good too if it's clean and available when you need to clean your hands.

They did a really good job on the remix of Nerve's "Nervous"... monstrous.
