Guest Stormbringer
Tripatrik And Face - Circonflex / In Da Machine Artist: Tripatrik And Face Title: Circonflex / In Da Machine Label: Databass Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. Tripiatrik : Circonflex 02. Face : In Da Machine Review: This is the second release from the pretty new label DATABASS MUSIC. Is it a trance-label or a techno-label? A quotation from their site: http://www.dtbmusic.net/ "More than a techno label, DATABASS is a team, sharing the same production, promotion and management "tool"". I still think it´s a difference between the sound of the Databass team and the traditional technoartists even though they call it techno themself. If the two first ep´s from Databass Music had been released in (let´s say) 1995 no one had even tried to convince doubters that it had to be trance, but now I´m confused how to label this. This ep is even more technoid than the first release from Databass Music (with tracks from Paps and Yumade). This ep is stomping, pumping and pounding! I really like one track (the Tripiatrik track is great!) but I´m not that sure that I would play them together with anything else than pure techno. This is really the first ep that I´ve bought that got me confused enough not to place it directly into either the techno- or the trance-genre. If I must choose it will be the techno-genre! Tripiatrik (S. Papin =Paps & P. Busson =50% of Yumade & Laurent Barateau =50% of Yumade) "Circonflex" (9/10) got an insanely pumping beat that I just love. It´s very technoid but very good!!! This is as far from dancing in the forest as you can get, and I can´t even emagine any outdoor-dj ever to use this track in his/(her?) set. I like it though! The techno-crowd will drool out of joy when "Circonflex" "hits" their bodies on the dancefloor". Face "In Da Machine" (4/10). Face = P. Besson (50% of Yumade) & D. Vergnaud and that track hasn´t got anything that I like. It sounds like monotonous minimal technoid trance as we are used to from Yumade. I know, it´s only 50% of Yumade but it sounds just as boring. I get confused by all those sideprojects, some is great some is crap, I don´t know what to expect anymore? Both these tracks can be found on the new compilation from Databass Music "Winter Session" but the track by Face has been remixed. There´s also a remix by Magus of the track "Circonflex" besides the original version from this ep. I´m sure someone else will review that compilation soon. I find this kind of crossover very interesting. What will be the next step? Will techno and trance merge into something else or what will happen in the future? Guest MK
One of my favourite labels at the moment. I love the Yumade/Paps releases and this is no exception. Innovative sounds and great beats make this single a killer!!! A great slice of psychedelic electronica ----I like their style and I cannot wait for more... Guest yoni[at]uphonic[dot]com
MK is right, this is a really good release. Circonflex is funky and twisted and the Face track is also excellent. Very psychedelic. Don't be fooled by others...this is a nice 12". 8/
Guest Psy man
Well i dont enjoy minimal, but tripiatrik is a fucking good techno track, probably one of the best work of this french guys in techno... very funky and crazy, no melodies at all, just that fucking crazy repetition... very good use of samples too... i first heard it in phones and i really enjoy the fucking oan effect in sample.. amazing... and usually i dont enjoy techno, i love full on, but this one is pretty good 9/10 Track 2 Face is a little bit slow (136 bpm), but is a nice track too. 6/10 If u are a dj techno, go buy it... if u enjoy good music, and have an open mind for anything else than just infected/halucinogen/astral projection, go for it too!!
