Guest Rx7style
Green Oms - Coming Through In Waves Artist: Green Oms Title: Coming Through In Waves Label: Dragonfly Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. Intro Wave 02. Hear And Now 03. Check Out Girl 04. Jack In The box 05. Porn Engineers 06. Murphy's Lore 07. Unwashed 08. Mr Boing 09. Hoover Groover 10. Cricklewood Crickets 11. Outro Wave Review: Green Nuns of the Revolution anyone? Refined psychedelia with admirable complexity is what you’ll find with this release under the name Green Oms. I hadn't even checked the biography for the group when I had remarked to myself, this sounds familiar, and mentally linked it to the classic group, GNOTR. Although I believe that is only 1/3rd of the new group here, the sounds are highly influenced, and that's a good thing. The album kicks off with less than a minute of dreamy ambiance, and then right into reverberated and echoed crunchy sounds. A nice starting flavour; almost ominous, but in a good way of course! The track builds slow but is filled with nice little harmonic riffs-a-plenty and funky beats in abundance. Very spacey filters are used to create a darker atmosphere, but it flows well into track 3 which turns things around into a surprisingly uplifting and harmonic track that was VERY enjoyable! Reminds me of some really clean electronica from the past, but it's new-ized to the point where it sounds quite psychedelic. The next track is harder and more full-on with lots of positional effects and percussives layered with good breaks. The next track again is more harmonic/melodic but quite repetitive, however it's appeasing, so it's tolerable even to the end. Murphy's Lore I didn't like at all: it's much too aggressive to fit decently with the other tracks, and it does try my nerves. Thankfully, the next track provides some relief, but by now I had come to the realization that there wasn't much variation in these tracks as far as structure, but sound wise it was broad enough an expanse to work. So in general, tracks 7-9 are good, but the inventiveness leaves much to be desired! Track ten gives way to a more down-tempo groove that switches up in the middle and bursts into full-on again, which I found quite original [based on the other tracks]. This was a nice finish, cadenced with a breezy atmospheric outro to end the rush. A good attempt, but there's room for improvement with the album, so I look forward to hearing more. 7.5/
Guest Sienis
As this album was the one that saved me during one of my many i get incredibly bored with the lame or boring releases nowadays, i decided to review it... Track01: Intro Wave is here to guide us into the theme of this album...with the first wave.... Track02: Hear & Now....i´m definately hearing this now! awesome sounds with a groovy bassline...some neat short voice samples... all the sounds are very clear, psychedelic and wellproduced....i like the way this track slowly builds and builds to this goalike acid sound. Track03: Check Out Girl....so nice to hear other basslines that those powerbasslines...these guys know their things...awesome acid sounds to keep your mind twirling and rocking back 'n' forth...and holy s**t if there´s not an unexpected snareroll to bring it up a notch!! hehehe....just when i was trying to figure out why this track is called like this, the track slows down for a female sample that goes "She was probably just hallucinating, don´t worry, i´ll check it out" and BoM! here we go again!! love these tweaking acid sounds, it´s just what we need to hear at parties... Track04: Jack in The Box "What´s in here?...AJAJJAJAjajaajjaaaaajjjjjaaiiajaiiaiaiaiiaiaaa...aiaia..a.aiaiaaa.a..aa jaiaija" a female and some indian sample says and brings us immediately in the right mood for this track...when this bassline and kick kicks in at some party the people will definately start screaming....fullon twisted style!! mmmm....bassline change after a few minutes...great tweaking gnarling sounds to make your teeth grind...hahhaha!, nice teasing melody sample, naa nana naa naaa....great track... Track05: Porn Engineers...can´t figure out what this woman says at first but then she goes "Aaah, let´s do it" then some nice psy sounds to twist some minds....great choice and bassdrum in this one...dry and a bit hollow to make it all sound alot different....sweeet! bassline change into this funky finnish spugedelic power disco style!!...this will bring out some screams of eargasms...awesome reversed snares in the snareroll...goddamn! female voice (again) goes "Aaaah, right there..............go deeeeep" unfasten your seatbelt couse this is real friggin psy!! i´d go nuts on the dancefloor for this track!! great awesome perfect repetive melody with tweaking sounds on top....great ending... Track06: Murphy´s Lore....great eargasmic scratchy granly teaky radio transmissionlike sounds in the intro with this hard bassdrum hit that´s brought on after a short fast reverse fx all 'Younger Brother - The Finger' style.....then this oldschool hiphop sample going "Put the needle on the record!" BoM! the bassline and bassdrum kicks in....awesome long fx in this one and some great drumming going on.... these guys know the importance of good breaks and builds...after a break it kicks off to this guitarlike fx:ed up melody and kitchenware sounds... and as it´s supposed to be in psychedelic music it a short break following a mood change to chopped up padlike vocal singing sample... time for the final kick with the guitar!! Track07: Unwashed....starts with a singing woman sample and continues in a great combo of bassline and bassdrum... very kool psy sounds adding to the beats...nice harmonic pads in the backround....great build up again in the end of the track which follows a nice melody... Track08: Mr. Boing.....dunno about you but i love this name......hehehe....ohh yeah!...bassdrum slowly fadeing in with the breakbeats... damn!...i love the intros these guys make...always bringing the listener into the track properly...not just some random fx...this one is one of the best ones on this album for me dancefloorwise....this is pure perfection!! after 5 mins a great long break with a woman going "where are you?" and again HERE WE FRIGGIN GO AGAIN!!! get ready to dance you ass off!!! Track09: Hoover Groover....starts off with an acid sounds tweaking up...bassdrum kicks in with fx and short beathits....then in a brilliant way they fade out the bassdrum a bit and put the bassline in....the first bassdrum is a FAKE! and the real one kicks in!!! distorted acid bassdrum... after just one min i know this one is gonna take my brain for a ride!!! ok i´m officially bouncing in my chair now....kinda hard to type this way but what the hell!!! another favourite track on this album....WOOOOooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!! i´m so going off to this one....BRILLIANT!!!!!!! the track was almost ten minutes and still feel sad it´s over.....hehehhe...could´ve heard that thing for another ten mins.... Track10: Cricklewood Crickets.....short intro into one of my fetishes....TRIPLETS!!!!!!!!.....calms the mood down after the previous track.... great bassline and bassdrum again...awesome way to combine and short aciddy sound with the bassline´s last long note... you´ll know what i mean when you hear it....you can hear the crickets in the backround....welcome to Cricklewood...... here´s the obligational break...with sounds that will tell you that we´re about to kick off again....the beat goes from the triplets to normal.... building and building...faster and faster....great goalike mood over this one when the melody and pads come in....perfect..and i mean PERFECT last track to the album!! Track11: and ou course we need the last wave of the album....swooooooooooooshhhh!!!!! Gotta put 'Hoover Groover' on as i write the summary of this fantastic album: Solid release with top notch sounds and perfect mastering, made to be listened the whole thing trough....found myself a new favourite project... need to see these guys live.... this album is made for you who likes pure psychedelic music!!!!!! final verdict...10/10....absolutely, positively, most definalely no doubt about that....don´t hesitate to get this album...not even for a second... KEEP IT UP 'n' KEEP IT GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lemmiwinks
a bit to "happy" IMO... My top pick is Hoover Groover, but the main flaw IMHO with the whole album is that it lacks a few layers... it somehow sounds "empty" making you think "nice, but there's something missing". Another one of those morning trance albums that work great as background music but is too light to be lisened to intensely... 6/10 SMI²LE
SkeletonMan
Label: Dragonfly Records Catalog#: BFLCD 60 Country: UK Released: 18 Nov 2002 Tracklisting: 1 Intro Wave 2 Hear And Now 3 Check Out Girl 4 Jack In The Box 5 Porn Engineers 6 Murphy's Lore 7 Unwashed 8 Mr. Boing 9 Hoover Groover 10 Cricklewood Crickets 11 Outro Wave This record surpassed me completely unnoticed when it was released back in 2002. Luckily for me I have later discovered it I'm not quite sure how to label this album. Psytrance would be the most appropriate, I guess, but there are also some progressive and even full on elements here and there. Psygressive is what I like to call this ;o) So how are Green OMS treating us? Friendly, catchy, uplifting, on the one hand, sinister, unfriendable and dark, on the other! We go from cheery leads to mean basses, melodic goa style to repetitive themes, happy to angry. It all depends on the mood, but I would say Green OMS are not the ones to blame if you don't have a good time while trippin' on this. My personal favourites here are Check Out Girl and Cricklewood Crickets. And Unwashed spirals me right into orbit. This tune shows that these guys know exactly what the mid nineties trance scene was all about. If I would go as far as labelling this album a must I am not sure about. There are still some tracks here that challenges me, but it may just be a matter of time before I dig them yet. Ah hell, what am I saying? I dig them already
