Jeto
Goa Gil - Cyberbabas 2000 Artist: Goa Gil Title: Cyberbabas 2000 Label: Phonokol Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. 07'42" Droidlock : Communication Invasion 02. 06'44" Infected Deedrah : My Mummy Said 03. 07'11" Passenger : For All Mankind (Hard Mix) 04. 07'39" Hux Flux : Snickesnack 05. 05'45" Manmademan : Karahana 06. 07'36" Toï Doï : Liquid Cosmos 07. 05'41" Paps Vs Mandukya : Aaaaaarrgh 08. 07'35" Bamboo Forest : Full Reset Review: The beggining is quite diffrent compared to the othe goa gil mixes... He normally has his voice and talks about the Trance Dance Experience! This one starts of great with a twisted track by Droidlock...This one starts very repatiive hypnotic bass and drums with sounds everywhere... It suddenly changes and your like WHAT ? It takes you by suprise! One of the bets breaks I have heard for very long.. and then back to that old scool kind of sound... its always progressing and building up..Great Track! The mix into Infected Deedrah is not so smooth... But carrying on in his journey with this great colabaration of Infected Mushroom And Deedrah which is also on Space Mantra (Ganesh Propaganda). This reminds me of the old Infecetd style a bit.. much better than thier new stuff.. more dance oriented...Moving along into a hard mix of a Passenger track... This one has some insane sounds everywhere with sweep liftings backing it.. and many subtle low melodies always going on flowing into another...with some hardcore breaks..very much like Passenger... The track builds to some VERY high frequincy ear piercing noises and then going into this Hux Flux track.. this track is very hard to describe... more low frequency sounds in the beggining like GMS uses...then it goes into pure psychedelia ... with sounds everywhere..and sweeps and like wierd noises.. with like filtres and like flangers and every possible effect you can imagine....I dunno how they get that sound..(need to hear it to und! erstand) Party Killer! In comes a track by Man Made Man...very repaptitive again... that hypnotic sound.. very deep goa basslines... and that kick drum .. on and on.. and lots of sounds just going on...On dance floor this can get you into a trance... He mixes it into a Toï Doï track.. I personally really like this group... They have a very diffrent sound... It starts of with the bass kinda dropping in the mix.. but straight forward with many crunchy sounds getting muffled...and then back to clear.. and back to to muffled... and introduction of new sounds... going on into something else when it breaks just intelligent uplifting..with that new pitched bassline...It gets really dark and gloomy towards the end.with sweeps going downwards...The paps vs mandukya mix is kind of abrubt.. maybe thats the way he wanted it.. like too much of that sound... i dunno.. because lots is happening in the Toï Doï and he just drops it to the Paps vs madukya which has pretty much only drums...you can make out the diffrences in Paps and Mandukya styles.. paps has that very floppy sound.. i dunno how to describe.. (need to hear it to understand) This track was quite impressive... Into a Bamboo Forest track... This one has a nice sample "I'm not ! capable of that E Motion" I think this is from Star Trek... nice twisted one.. Overall I would give it a 7/10... This CD could have been longer ... It is only 55:53!
Guest TRISTAN
A new compilation from a name i haven't heard for quite a while... Phonokol are back in business! and it's for Goa Gil, to take over it. A new compilation, despite the annoying length (about 60 mins), it's goddamn great! Most of the tracks are fresh, haven't heard before... About the mixing? as always Goa Gil delivers a mix without any flaws. slight and smooth bpm passages. the first track by Droidlock. very very good and psychedelic. Monotonious, nice bass and kick. Hux Flux's track is awesome as usual. Manmademan is fuckin' great! the best track on the compilation! psychedelic and groovie! kinda reminds me of 3DV stuff etc. Toï Doï aswell. very nice, choirs in the background. makes my mind flow to other places. Paps VS. Mandukya - YESSSSSSSSS! indeed, this is fullon psytrance! Absolutly stunning! as always with Paps! unfortunatly, it's too short! Ending this compilation are Bamboo Forest, with Full Reset with a very good track with tribalistic percussion/drumming, and metal acid sounds. lovely. Conclusion - 8/
Guest [Anonymous]
Goa Gil is the guru of psy trance... this album is really nice but is missing about 2 more tracks... Droidlock is really beginning to impress me... well i guess protugal did need some representation in the scene... this album is very goa and has hard basslines mixed with nice complex psychedelic sounds. I love Snicksnack, pounding rythm is how my friend described it.. Other highlights include toi doi, paps and bamboo forest.. all the groups featured in this album are really talenteds and one should try and get more songs from these artists.. a 8.5/10 for the guru of trance.. great job!!! Guest AtomikElf
goa gil scares the sh!t outta me. he's an old, very experienced "guru" and he's chosen to take psychedelic-influenced dancers on a crushing mission. yes, there's no goddamn escape from this guy. the tracks he chooses and the unique way of mixing is devastating. it's like he takes you here, then drops a psychedelic bomb in your face, then he chills you out and then melts your brain with a psychedelic flamethrower. what is his actual mission?? to kill your ego, and totally break you down, and leave you with nothing but thought. jesus!!! this guy is hectic. whew.... but this is the tru source of enlightenment. empty thought in the void on the other side of reality where you become spirit and i don't even know how to describe all the kinda stuff that goes on in this state of mind - i guess it's the ultimate in enlightenment. well, i've said enough - blow your mind ¦-D and remember, love is the ultimate goal/experience. Guest kptda[at]yahoo[dot]com
Great compilation - great psychedelic feeling. Not even one bad track. Best tracks 1 & 7. 9/
Guest embedded
This full-on mix kicks off in fine style with Tr1 a semi-industrial stomper before moving into Tr2 which will be familiar to many with its superb filtering effects on the rhythm track.Track 3 introduces melody and power in equal amounts with enough breakdowns to catch your breath before HuxFlux spirit us off into spacey vistas with much squelching and blown milk-bottle noises {you know the ones}.We land on an alien surface with Tr4 , a funky earthy hard-driven place with traces of spring reverb[?],and after a sudden change in the mix ToiDoi slither and slime until a final theme cuts in {more of this style please}.The snakey sounds carry over into tr7 which is probably the weakest track in the mix [ok, but slightly lacking compared to the others},and finally Bamboo Forest take us to the end with their organic percussive style. A great selection of night-time tracks well chosen & mixed by Goa Gil{except for a jumpy transfer between cuts 5&6},my overall criticisms being that it's too short--he should either have left the tracks to run on a bit longer or added a couple to fill out the CD--and due to using a graphic EQ {?} the definition of the low frequencies has fallen away ,particularly near the start.Whack the bass up! Guest AtomicCow
Great tracks on this one. Agree that it's way too short. Track 1 is very dark and has great sounds...something special in it...one of the best tracks here. Tracks 2 is ok. Nothing special. Track 3 is a repetitive stomper. #4 is probably the best Hux Flux track I heard...that's not saying much, I don't like Hux Flux and so this track is only average...interesting sounds here and there but that's it. Track 5 is the weakest one on the cd IMO. Just driving noise. Track 6 is the best. Toi Doi is one of my favorite artist. Full of energy and psychedelia...just listen to that siren like sound at the beginning or the great melodies at the end. Track 7 has a great echoed synth at the beginning but gets a bit boring at the end...still a solid offering. Track 8 has great percussion going off but is otherwise not memorable. Over all and excellent CD. Don't care much for the mixing as it's more like quick cuts...there's little overlap in other words but it doesn't matter because the atmosphere holds them together. A selection of real psychedelic tracks...with a similar atmosphere...dark...a night in the forest kind of dark.
