Gorgonator
Don't be fooled my psychedelic friends, I have Electronic high 2 and this compilation and there is no comparision this new solstice comp is nothing short of amazing, its very fresh sounding and sometimes has a clubby feel to it. Its mostly a morning trance compilation with the best tracks being 4,6,7 9 & 10. IMO this gem gets a firm 9/10. GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guest seaweed_pate[at]yahoo[dot]com
V/A - Solstice Artist: Various Title: Solstice Label: Elejam Date: 2002 Track listing: 01. The Antidote : Analog Activity 02. Synthetic : Beat Machine 03. Bio Tonic : Stereo Tonine 04. Saiko-Pod : Sashitarian 05. Yumade : Trotskist 06. GMS : The Red Dragon 07. Alien Project And Orion : Stoned Bambin 08. Total Eclipse : Eleusis 09. The Antidote And Synthetic : La Pieora Escondida 10. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly : El Presagio Review: Hmmm, new compilation on Solstice, I thought, if it's as good as Electronic High Part 2 I MUST get it.. Unfortunately though, it wasn't as impressive: Track 1. Another good tune from Serge, nothing spectacular, similar style to Vedrasonic. Track 2. Fat tune by Dado with some electro vocal sample which I have yet to establish its identity. Best song on the album. Track 3. Biotonic once more fail to do the trick for me. Track 4. Hah, funky tune by Saiko Pod with their haunting oriental melodies over a Reefer Decree-like bassline. Good shit. Track 5. Yumade have never been my favourite band but this song is actually quite nicely floaty. Reminds me of Double Dragon, believe it or not. Track 6. Yet another GMS tune, just as expected, bouncy, catchy, blah blah blah.. I'm sorry but we've heard this stuff SO many times before.. Track 7. Absolutely brilliant morning tune! Take the lovely style of Alien Project and add the vast production and spacious sounds of Jean Borelli and you'll get an idea.. Track 8. No. As usual, a bit faster than it should be and overall quite boring. Track 9. Rather disappointing really, I expected something better from such a collaboration.. It's a good song, but it could have been so much more.. Track 10. Heheheh, good song, rather lighter than their previous releases. Overall, it's a good compilation, I guess I had too much of a high expectation for it. Best songs are 2,4 and 7, with the rest ranging from average to good. Final verdict: 7.5/
Guest jonathangivony[at]hotmail[dot]co
Well just to mix things up a little, I prefer more Minimal/Progressive but I am always open minded to psycheadelic music, especially at parties. I liked this comp a lot! Really good mix of styles, all tracks are high quality. My favorties on this one are: Track 2; Synthetic- Beat Machine (What a killer!) Track 3; Biotonic- Stereo Tonine (Another stomper from what is turning in to my favorite act) Track 4: Saiko-Pod- Sashitarian (Former Koxbox guys showing us again what the definition of Progressive Full-On is, groovy, funky, and psychadelic all at the same time) Track 5: Yumade- Troskist (This guy changes sounds like socks, but everytime something refreshing and good! Where is your new album?) All of the other tracks are nice (except #6, which blows) Number 7 is a track that I would love to hear at a party, maybe this summer. I'll give this compliation a solid 8.5/10 which is pretty high for me. Don't write this one off.
Guest sauron_live
beat machine is sort of a remix of depeche mode, can't you folks recognize the bells? "reach out and ..." good tracks are alien project + borelli, antidote vs synthetic (more deedrah-ish actually) and synthetic - beat machine
Guest Xymaths
Its a nice comp with the style of progesssive/melodic-great mix really! All the old names here but the production is as stunning as ever-get it if your an electric universe/Human blue type person-this has its place at exactly 7am in the morning outside! enjoy
Guest Dr Cheroot
awesome release. every track is well crafted, with a some refreshing sounds which are different from the artists regular style (yes, even GMS!!). hmm. almost thinking of giving this a 10, but i'll keep it at 9/10. A definite buy.
seraph
VERY GOOD compilation...Very liquid, fresh, smooth and psychedelic...It has various textures and sounds and patterns...The concept is pretty good...Best on comp : BEAT MACHINE, SACHITARIAN, THE RED DRAGON, STONED BAMBIN ( ! ), ELEUSIS, EL PRESAGIO...8/
Guest MG
I like this better than both Electronic high 2 & 3. Synthetic got it right for once I liked it so much I bought it rather than ripped it. GMS should release things only on Spun, so as to avoid taking space where originality reigns over formula, and as far as I could tell the Alien Project Track was okay, no doubt thanks to Orion! If anything, this comp has shown that the artists involved can make really good music when they want to, arguably having more off days recently than on!My faves would be Synthetic's track, Saikopods. The Total Eclipse was really good too! Get it!
DeathPosture
VERY GOOD compilation...Very liquid, fresh, smooth and psychedelic...It has various textures and sounds and patterns...The concept is pretty good...Best on comp : BEAT MACHINE, SACHITARIAN, THE RED DRAGON, STONED BAMBIN ( ! ), ELEUSIS, EL PRESAGIO...8/10 471032[/snapback] I agree! This compilation totally holds up - it's jam-packed with easy-going, party-friendly tunes... From back when full-on was a good thing. I still dig this one loads.
