All made by South African artists, it shows the vibe is very much alive down there. This makes me wanna go party in South Africa!!! It starts dark with Protoculture but right in the middle of the track you understand we’re talking happy morning vibes here. Rinkadink asserts this with Ultima- total morning madness. Then it just rolls on with the cute Freak of da Week!, the thrashing Whiplash track, the bouncy guitary Elephunktitus, Synergism with its psychedelic guitars, and the heart penetrating Metaphysical (which reminds me the good old Etnica days in a way). Strong morning tracks with powerful atmosphere and a story that is not afraid to be long and build up and totally succeeds in doing so- I had enough of 6-7 minute long formulated tracks with expected boring build ups and the same old sounds and tricks, and totally no soul. We got some inspiration here at last!!! I keep playing this everywhere for a month now and still didn't get bored, and I get A LOT of music every week! Bottom line: Surprise CD of the year! Excellent morning psychedelic trance with the right spirit, great vibe, good story, real music, strong atmosphere, and a lot of optimism. Own it!!! Favorites: 1, 2(!), 4, 5(!), 8(!) PKS
Nano Records is a new label, based at the tip of Africa, Cape Town in South Africa. Here they are with their first cd release. First track is a rolling heavy track by someone called Protoculture (N. Raubenheimer). A lot of scary voices and some melodic funky sounds. Track 2 is a melodic morning track by Rinkadink (W. Van Jaarsveld & S. Scott) Really stumpy rhythms all the way, but some refreshing melodic parts now and then. Something for the sunrise. Track 3 is by Hydrophonic (two brothers?) This is an interesting track. Really deep rolling rhythms, with some melodic sounds now and then. Track 4 is a collaboration between the Hydrophonik guys and Protoculture with another guy. Another stumpy track with cool echo sounds. Track 5 by Whiplash is a collaboration between one of the guys in Rinkadink and Shane Gobi. A dark track with heavy stumping rhythms. Track 6 is another track by the Hydrophonic guys. This is again a little more melodic track, but there are not much variation from the beginning to the end. Track 7 is also a Hydrophonic track. This a better one with more variation. This is also a morning track with som beautiful floating parts. Protoculture finishes with two tracks. The first one is pretty melodic, but with a lot of psychedelic sounds too. The last track is a real morning track, with stumpy rhythms and floating sounds all the way. A beautiful track, somewhere between progressive and full on trance. This new South African compilation really surprised me with some nice tracks. They are really into the trance sound of today, if you like it or not.
Guest Acidhive
Stomping stuff this. Does the phrase all killer, no filler ring a bell? Well, it does here. And if you're in love with great kicking & hard psychedelic tunes which sound a bit like the great stuff from older days, you're definately getting your money's worth here. Also this is filled to the max (78 min's) There's nothing more to be said here by me frankly... the guys above have said it all ... Anyway, 9/10 from me here. Must-buy if you're in for some PSYtrance... now off to listen to track 1.. " Mind's playing tricks on me... " Yeah, kick it up Hydrophonic!
