Guest malbat23[at]yahoo[dot]co[dot]uk
V/A - Eskimo Artist: Various Title: Eskimo Label: Resonoise Date: 2000 Track listing: 01. Sinister Funk : Circle Of Flames 02. Igneous Sauria : Stretching Lizards 03. Peace Data : Peace Depth 04. LOA : Moriarti 05. Mekano : The Flipside Of Puu-Pu 06. Bonky : Short Wave 07. Magus : Hypnosis (Igneous Sauria Rmx) 08. Shakta : Something Happened 09. Shakta And Cosmosis : Anatomic Maneuver Review: 'Enjoy The Noise!' it says inside the cover of this CD, the first release in London by the expatriate Russian posse, and I think you might. One of the few recent albums that for me seems to sum up the feel of anarchic underground parties, it provides a spontaneous off-your-face feeling that sounds like it might have been produced & mixed live {tho'it's not a mix CD.] Tr 1 sets the tone for what follows, with its constipated elephant noises and a Koxbox-type feel.I'm not sure whether this the same Sinister Funk as on SST.{?}Tr 2 straightens itself out after several false starts and twitchy jerky breakbeats before rocking on with some advice about medication from South Park. Then we plunge via a throbbing minimal bassline into Tr3 & what might be heard as a sonic sheetmetal tearing competition! Next, LOA continue the pounding & throw in some choppy bursts of guitar, a weird robotic voice and some kind of naive folk melody. This is getting stranger & wilder by the minute. Tr 5 starts all industrial then gets funky with snatches of bass guitar{?}followed by Bonky who get straight on with the mayhem with Tr 6 which means lowdown dirty business from the start, sounds rattling and firing at you non-stop. Not for the faint-hearted!{check out the Bonky/Fungus Of Light CD for more}.Entering the airy departure lounge of a spacestation at the beginning of Tr 7 leads to an increasingly menacing area as you proceed out into the dark vacuum. Finally the coup de grace is delivered to your brain by the last two tunes by artists who need no introduction, Tr 8 hitting in a harder style than maybe expected from Mr Taylor and is well chosen so as to fit in with the others here.Chunky ,funky & moody ,it doesn't disappoint. Nor does the last track ;with a strong bassline & percussion ,it rounds off this album with a squelchy, more melodic and spacy finale. Superb. If you like it smooth and lightweight look elsewhere, but for me this sums up some special moments at the peak of the night. Buy it! Anoebis
The Peace Data song is one of the best minimalistic songs EVER!! This cd is full with harsh, dark and uplifting minimalistic Trance... Only the last two songs (8,9)are not uplifting at all and rather bad in my opinion!! 8/10 Bom Shankar
Guest structurerecords[at]tulip[dot]uk
The peace data track is quit good. The bonky and Mekano track is really bad. Give this record 3,5/10. (But you can´t take away the underground/chaos fellin on this rec.)
