Guest Per Sterud
Etnica - Etnica 1 Artist: Etnica Title: Etnica 1 Label: mp3.com Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 09'46" Ashtronauts 02. 11'05" BMV - Rotating Fields 03. 06'39" Casa Blanca 04. 09'37" Ninety Nine 05. 10'26" Petalec Vibes 06. 08'32" True Protoss Warrior Review: After Etnicanet's kind suggestion on the Psynews forum to check out their stuff at MP3.com, I gave a quick listen and decided to buy the CD (it took only a few days to get to me here in the US). If you're a die-hard Etnica/Pleiadians fan like me, you should definitely give this one a try. At least a couple of these songs, namely True Protoss Warrior and Casa Blanca, can be found elsewhere, like the SA2000 comp. Otherwise, the other four tracks are new to me, though they may exist elsewhere as well. Also, the packaging is nothing special - just a cookie-cutter MP3.com insert with a picture of Etnica live on the front and a basic tracklist on the back. (New paragraph) The CD starts out with Ashtronauts, a mid-tempo track full of background acidic melodies and a funky bassline. This one sounds new, and could have been on Nitrox if there was room. Next, and probably the best song on the album, is BMV - Rotating Fields. This one sounds like it should have been on Pleiadians' Family of Light, as it resembles both Meter and Headspin (which is saying A LOT). It's fast and furious and the melodies, especially towards the ending minutes of the song, are simply amazing - they wind and twist, change keys almost randomly and play with the bass to create an astoundingly transcendant effect. Track 3, Casa Blanca, should be familiar to many of you. It's short but sweet with a big tech-trance bassline that reminds me a lot of Wizzy Noise. Track 4, Ninety Nine [sic], is big, aggressive and funky with a great bassline that's all over the place. It also reminds me of the full-on tracks on Nitrox, especially "Small Doses," with a little bit of "Modulation" thrown in. Next is Petalec Vibes. The tempo slows a bit here, but it still carries a huge punch. Again, this one sounds a lot like a cross between Family of Light and Nitrox, with lots of bigness and twisting melodies that change as the song progresses, which all end in a great big finale, History-style. The last song, True Protoss Warrior, is probably the best-known of the album's tracks. As most would agree, this is one of the best sci-fi, gaming songs around, so I won't go into it. (New paragraph) So if any of you Etnica fans out there are hurting for just a little more from this band, and maybe you were a little disappointed with Nitrox, and maybe you want a little bit more of that big, dark, twisting, pounding sound as on Family of Light, then you should probably have this one. There are no downtempo/chill-out/dub tracks here, just full-on, four-on-the-floor for a little under an hour - well-worth the price. Because this CD satisfies my craving for the best sound Etnica has to offer, I'm going to give it a 9.5/10, subtracting half a point for some awkward song transitions. Guest psychopat[at]mageos[dot]com
I agree and like a lot track 2 & 6. But mp3's are in poor quality (even for 128k, lacks treble).
Guest Zoltar
Bought it yesterday and I'm waiting now. I support Etnica/Pleiadians for many years, I don't care 'bout the CD design. Just hope that this has been made from the original wavs.
Guest Epic Automata
The CD is high-quality. Since I buy all my CDs (with the exception of a few burned copies here and there) I'm not familiar with the sound of MP3s on disk, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I will say that some of these tracks end abruptly and awkwardly. BMV - Rotating Fields, although a great track, has a couple blips in it that are barely noticeable, but there. Still, it sounds good to me and I've got a finicky ear. EA

Guest Zoltar
OKAY, HELP. I just received this D.A.M. CD today and I'm disappointed, why? 1) AUDIO track #2 has a skip bug between 6'34"-6'35" AND the MP3 version of the same track on the same D.A.M. CD has the same bug. Hazard? Anyone noticed that? I wanna know more about this bug. Is this NORMAL? I wanna exchange this CD. I like _quality_. Thanks, Frederic B.
