Children
Haltya - Forest Flavour Artist: Haltya Title: Forest Flavour Label: Exogenic Date: 2001 Track listing: 01. 06'43" Facelift 02. 05'50" Groovymeisseli 03. 06'53" 1979 Flashdance 04. 06'10" Alas Taikavirtaa 05. 05'23" Red-Eye Jed-I 06. 01'03" 1100 ft/s 07. 07'22" Twisturbed Fok'n Manmal 08. 07'01" Tauno (Out Of Phase Edit) 09. 05'33" Dancing Into The Night 10. 06'21" WMCF (Feng Shui Arrangement) 11. 06'13" Happy Haltyan Harvest 12. 05'59" 5'55" Review: Quite good album ... actually a very psychedelic and crazy one (made by Pelinpala, Outolintu with some help from friends, like Loopus In Fabula) ... maybe I'm not completely prepared for the Finnish Exogenic crazyness (don't forget we're talking of an Exogenic release, one of the Faggots label, so don't expect "conventional" psytrance but a more crazy one, even if that's not from the Faggotts ;-)) I precise I just received this CD for free, and I really thank them for that (very nice package BTW !). Anyway, I always do objective reviews, so this one will remain objective too : First 2 Tracks are very groovy, really like them (seems they are Part 1 and 2 of a same Track), particularly Track 2 with such a nice bass & good melodies, but still in a good psychedelic way, NOT cheesy ! Track 3 is interesting, but not as good as the previous one. Track 4 is not that good IMHO ? in fact the sound is very "video-gamish" (I mean old video-games, like Zelda, Super Mario & things like that, that kind of sound) and I don't think it fits well in psytrance. Track 5 has a very stirring rhythm ? a more psychedelic Track, nearly not melodies here. Track 6 is a very short one, with very "tswing-zwingy" sounds ... too short to give an opinion ? that's more an intro to Track 7 than something else. Track 7 starts with a voluntarily staccato melody (following Track 6), and voices who seem to come from some tv ad ? very experimental too IMHO. Track 8 is very strange, seems there's a modified sample of a car engine starting up ... too technoish for me. Track 9 is certainly the most crazy one here : woman vocals very saccato too, with a funky style and many psychedelic effects. More conventional at the end, that I prefer to the beginning. Track 10 is more tribal, groovy and with a discrete beat. Track 11 is a very jazzy one ? funny to listen to this mix between jazz & psychedelia :-) vibraphone, claps, muffled light, cocktail, pool , beautiful girl in a red dress (the "Matrix" one ;-)) ? that kind of atmosphere, in a psychedelic style ... like it as I don't hate jazz and love psychedelia :-) Track 12 is very different, groovy, with many stereo effects ... quite psychedelic, but with no crazy sounds nor usual psytrance instruments ... fresh sounds to finish the travel into non-conventional psytrance. To conclude I can say that this is a very original style, didn't hear that before. Not bad sound, except maybe at the middle of the album, which is really too crazy for me. But the first and last Tracks are pretty cool, and Track 2 is a real masterpiece ! Rating : 6/10.
Guest mkress[at]wbm[dot]de
Very nice album! The packaging great, gives it a mysterious, nordic vibe. The music is very psychedelic and danceable. It is mixture of many different influences...influences of jazz, disco, funk, mixed together with psychedelic craziness and technoic element. Best trax IMHO are 1,4,9,11,12! I love how they mix vocoders and cool funk sample, and twisted out samples and beats, someitmes combined with dark and sharp bass melodies and sweep, lots of texture and depth, not minimal shit at all!! You will not get bored easy with this! The weakest trax are 6-8, but there nothing here that make you want to turn off your stereo! This is my best buying of the year so far, and I'm really becoming fan of finnish sound of psy-trance! I give this album a 10/10 for packaging and layout, and a 9/10 for the music and vibes. Highly recommend!!!!

Guest Acidhive
Just listened a couple of tracks from this album, and I must say it's too weird for me. Besides that, it seems as most of the tracks don't have a structure at all. I'll pass on this one, and I won't rate it (people get shocked by my extremely low grades sometimes)
mars
You know Pelinpala ? This one is the same. Silly melodies and disordered beats. To me this album is bad. 4/10.
Guest SYN
This one is much more dance-oriented than Pelinpala-album. Sometimes silly, sometimes veeeery groovy. Keep your ass moving!
Guest Red-Eye Jed-I
Truly,Forest flavour isn't goa trance, that i can tell you. This album is for people who look for something new, an album for people with a broader taste...Take a peek into the Finnish Forest. By the way:the melodies may be silly for some who can't find the different psychedelia but the beats aren't disordered, that's for sure! Guest kinetiko
I have to disagree with people that don't like this album. It has new strange sounds and structures...some might see it as weird but I just think its crazy stuff from the nordic crews!! Some tracks lack a coherent direction with loads of really cool but short grooves. Very abstract sounds with a new kind flavour. Great to see such new and experimental music being explored by our Scandinavian friends. 9/10 Definite buy!!
Guest AnothaNewMouse
If these guys were dumped in the forest of finland they would go "MAMA HELP" !!! That´s all. Go Figure.. Foorest Flaaavour????? Where??? Not on this album
Guest SYN
This is much more dance-oriented than Pelinpala album. Sometimes silly, but mostly very grooovy. One thing that annoys me a little is that they seem to have these trademark sounds they use in several tracks. Bubbly bubbly. Still well worth checking, and the cover art is EXCELLENT!
Guest pooppppey[at]hotmail[dot]com
Wow! This is something i´d not expect, but reading the info´s on the cd explains alot. The influences of Pelinpala are heard wide thru the album, exept that this album is far more funkier and groovier were pelinpala was more twisted and Creepy. Tghis album is by far one of the most intresting one´s i´ve heard in a very long time. the psychedelia what it has is realy something to enjoy in the forest, alone, in the dark, with happy little elves. It´s a very positive yet not cheesy at all album with some of the funnies sounds and strange rythms plus sounds from the deep magical nordic mushroom forests. And the production is realy well done. Wonder were they got those quuuaaak!°! hoht sounds from. Finland rocks! the first realy psychedelia package to come out of Finland!
Guest kamakama[at]hotmail[dot]com
Exogenic has put out a few realy intresting albums lately, but this one is by far the best of them all artisticly and sound wise. The production is realy great. i teach audio engeneering in Berlin and i must say that in some parts even i don´t know who these fellas have pulled it off, must be the finnish forest or something. Highly recommend this to everybody who wants something difrenty and fresh! get lost in the forests!
Guest kamakama[at]hotmail[dot]com
This album is defenitaly god worth. Pelinpala´s superb album on demon tea was foreplay considered to this groove. Pelinpala´s albumn was more dark and experimental, this one is defenitely more danceble, i play tracks at every party! and the people love it : everybody allways asks me : what the hell is this madness? Think i´ll give the Finns a better listen in the future. Haven´+t liked anything to come out of those parts yet.... most of finnish music is shit and realy uncreative and bad sounding like the texas fagot album for instence. This album get´s a 10/10 in music productioin, art and feel!!!!!
Guest forestflavour[at]hotmail[dot]com
I love this shit!!! went to their gig two weeks ago too and it was fab! can´t wait for them to play at the finnish koneisto electronic festival in turku. went there last year too and it was realy realy cool and partyyy!! Finnish tracne music is realy too mad for some people to take, the reason why people make so mad stuff must be because of the long winters and the depressing atmosphere here. the scene in finland is not very big, but strong, we have bads like Haltya, squaremeat, pelinpala texas faggots play live all the time so its pretty cool. Pelinpala and haltya are from the same studio so that´s why their sound is realy close. also pelinpala is one guy from haltya. i thing is somekind of a wu-tang clan of finnish trance or someting?!?!? Take a listen to this cd and you´ll know why it is so loved here in beatiful forest finland.
Guest happy haltyan harvester
Haltya is my favourite trance band at the mom. And this cd is the reason why. the cd consist of multipåle style of music like jazz trance funk beat adn d n b. it´s such a nice blend of all these but in the dancable way. the cd startrs of without any foreplay and sinks into the misty deep forest until it takes us out of the shadows of the trees into the fields of joy! recomend about 400-500 mg of your finest and a few chillums to keep you on track. it´s forest party time. Guest psyentist
EXOGENIC IS THE SHIT, grat groups and aweasome music. Pelinpala & Outulinto are great, Loopus in fabula is sick, this cd is a must for true mind opening psyentists, you just have to experiment and deliver new sounds and confussion ALL the sounds from exogenic are fabulous The Faggot's,Squaremeat, We need more albums from them. This CD is better in some ways to pelinpala's more stompers here and more breakthrough experimental distorters in pelinpalas, but this album is more evolved and much more danceable for some, I wish that they would do an album with combined floor killers each one infiltrated with funkadelic raw and hard jazz all the way through. EXCELLENT TOP NOTCH PSY!!!
Guest FinnHawk
TRANSLATION of some of the track names: 2 == the finnish word for screwdriver is RUUVIMEISSELI. The first party, RUUVI is pronounced like the ROOVY in GROOVY, hence the name GROOVYMEISSELI ("GRUUVIMEISSELI"). 4 == Alas Taikavirtaa can be loosely translated as "Down the Magic Stream". 8 == Tauno is a man's name. I guess that's about it. The rest are self explanatory.

Also Pelinpla´s album is one of my favourites! look out for more sickness!!!
Guest rx7style
This album just blew me away. Very cool melodies, everything is arranged very well -- as per Feng Shui! I thought it was a little too busy sometimes in a few of the tracks... the layers became a bit too numerous in tracks like 1979 Flashdance and WMCF, because the melodies were pretty complex, and having too many of them kind of spoils the simplicity I sometimes enjoy. I can say however that this is a very funky, well thought out album with a lot of soul. It's exactly what the psychedelic scene needs to get it out of the DREADFUL minimal garbage trench it's been hanging around for a while. Crank this album up, and let it blow your mind. 8/10 for this innovative album.
Guest HaPPoHALTyA
Now this is what they call this CD in Finland..GROOVYTAMPPII!! Groovymeisseli is the track, that kicks ass!!
Guest ralih[at]hongkong[dot]com
Ah man this is some nice shit I mean these guys are not afraid to play around with the music. I really love the funky and ajzzy influences they've got too.. basicly really good, groovy, psychedelic and very funny music. .
Guest Jonny-Jukebox
This record is greatly odd, all tracks are very good...if you like crazy music then buy this record.
Guest BlueSpectralMonkey
you know it when youre hearing the elves chatter come from between the air molecules swirling around you as you freakout dancing, and chasing all those thoughts about how your psy is supposed to sound. let go and learn the tweak. it is understandable, allt he cold darkness up there in the fjords and such, i would make crazier music too. but, i cant really listen to it the whole way thru anymore, gets to driving me batty... but it does have some winners for sure. ill be sure to play this whenever the party gets too serious... zangroobulous numinosity spontificates and warbululation.
