Guest Deku81
Somaton - Future Memories Artist: Somaton Title: Future Memories Label: Phantasm Date: 1997 Track listing: 01. 07'17" Monogatari 02. 07'03" Future Memories 03. 07'37" Eclosion 04. 06'54" The Sphere Of Sensation 05. 06'50" Infinite Reality 06. 06'52" Alpha Rhythms 07. 06'45" Mutate And Survive 08. 05'21" Future Memories (Digitalis Chilled Rmx) 09. 06'33" Radionics 10. 06'34" Infinity Dubs Review: This album start off nice with Monogatari that is pretty fast. Especially the sounds in the first 30 seconds are so cool. It has also got some nice breakbeats. Then there's 'Future Memories' that goes on in the same style as the first track. But then it becomes quite boring, on the next three tracks nothing happens, it's just the same all the way. 'Alpha Rhytms' is nice though with some cool breakbeats, and a nice melody. 'Mutate And Survive' is nice too, but then the ambient start in the remix track. I don't know why they put it there, because 'Radionics' is yet again a fast track like the rest of the album. And then at the end of the album it goes back to ambient again?!?!? Sorry but I can't recommend this album...
Guest kilian_303[at]hotmail[dot]com
Unlike the other reviewer I can strongly recommend this album. Great energetic tracks. The sound on this album is very similar to the sound of Shakta..but hey! It´s the same dude! =) It has nice beats and good melodies. If you´re thinking of buying the lousy album The enlightened ape by Shakta..don´t! This sound better and is a wiser choice if you want some good Shakta-sounding material. Rating: 8,5/
Guest AtomikElf
i've only heard the first song.....and it's awesome - full-on hectic squelchy shakta-style madness!!! don't know about the rest tho. ;-(
Guest Ubik
Yes, this is close from shakta first album. So this is good stomping goa with nice acid lines, but it lacks a little originality. Best tracks are Monogatori and Mutate & Survive, a little ahead the others. 8/10 overall.
Guest swcm[at]hotmail[dot]com
This is a very good album!, The ones who doesnt like psy like this aint got the right ears =) I love nearly all of his tracks ... Think this one is better than shaktas (same guy).. That's my opinion. Good beats mixed with psy sounds ! 8.5/
Guest extra_terrestrial[at]goatrance[d
Stunning !! Amazing album. You must have it if you are serious trance listener or sebastian's fan. All songs are good....the only bad thing is that break between mutate and survive and radionics with an ambient digitalis track.....But, still, it's very good. 9/
seraph
Extremely good album by SEB at the same time he realeased SILICON TRIP...It is chemical, biologic, extremely psychedelic album...If you don't have this one, skip his last album and get this... Trance2MoveU
This was quite an enjoyable album of old-school (are we still using that term?) Goa trance. Nice melodies. I felt it was a little thin on the bass end of things, but a strong release nonetheless. Favorites: 1,2,3,5,7,9. Mdk
Trance2MoveU
Artist: SomatonTitle: Future MemoriesLabel: Phantasm RecordsDate: 199701. 07'17" Monogatari02. 07'03" Future Memories03. 07'37" Eclosion04. 06'54" The Sphere Of Sensation05. 06'50" Infinite Reality06. 06'52" Alpha Rhythms07. 06'45" Mutate And Survive08. 05'21" Future Memories (Digitalis Chilled Rmx)09. 06'33" Radionics10. 06'34" Infinity Dubs"Your minds and your memories will be totally absorbed."I think that's Jeff Goldblum. Did you know homie is 60 years old? Man time flies, it was just the other day he was in the Fly right? What's that? Oh, 1986 you say? Wow...I need to get out more.Ok had to come back to this one. Before Filipe Santos had 27 different project names there was Seb Taylor. This guy produced music under the name Shakta, Somaton, Digitalis, Hibernation and Kaya Project to name a few. Having a classic under your belt is rare and quite impressive. Having 2?Well, that's something to crow about.Silicon Trip released by Shakta is a well established benchmark of the goa trance genre IMO, but this is his less talked about achievement that performs just as well. He comes right out and scores a smash with Monogatari that hits with the force of a sledgehammer that just doesn't get old. Eclosion is imminently danceable and high on the twirl factor. The Sphere of Sensation has the kind of lead that leaves a heat trail behind it as it sucks you up its vortex of goa energy and while I liked it, it seemed to lack the killing blow that several of the tracks here have.Infinite Reality sees an acid line rip a hole in the firmament which allows all the little goa demons a chance to escape. But then Alpha Rhythms comes on and...things start moving involuntarily.OK! Nobody was doing this breakbeat Crystal Method sh*t back in 97. Well, except Crystal Method. The 303 screams and the beat is heavy. Did he copy them? Hard to say there wasn't some influence as it sounds like this could've come off their Vegas album. But there can be no mistaking the dominant track on the album Mutate and Survive. Swirling leads, pumping rhythm, and that bubbling 303 that lets you know everything is gonna be all right. Dude you're on fire! No, seriously dude, you're on f*cking fire!!!With the eigth track he brings his downtempo Digitalis project into focus with a chilled remix of Future Memories. It's cool in a flowing way with an old-school hip hop beat leading the charge. Not bad with some juicy electronic bubbles. Kinda odd that he put it where he did, but that's not the type of thing that will upset me.Radionics sees the pace pick up immediately with leads racing past each other for prime position. Super fast with driving melodies makes it very tasty. To close things out it's another slow jam this time in the dubby style. I don't know how this made it on the album as it doesn't fit with anything else. Sure it's relaxing dub style, but put it on your chilled project. Give me more goa! While not one of the top 5 goa trance albums, it still holds weight with me. Acid lines that tear across the sky, bubbling leads, and power out the wazoo make this one a very impressive release.Mdk
