Guest gizmomarek[at]hotmail[dot]com
Gabriel Le Mar - Gab's Lab Artist: Gabriel Le Mar Title: Gab's Lab Label: Spirit Zone Date: 1999 Track listing: 01. 06'51" Homesick Blue 02. 06'31" Too Much Alone 03. 06'43" Error Minus 666 04. 05'55" Why? 05. 05'56" Say No! 06. 03'35" Little Homesick 07. 04'51" Road To Sirius 08. 08'05" Full Moon (We Love To Dance) 09. 09'58" Heart Beat 10. 05'48" One O'Seven 11. 07'10" Slo Mo Review: Debut solo album of a Saafi Brother brings us everything what's the best in ambient-dub. First two tracks are a great funky tunes starts with a some acid tunes & then comes great guitar, really nice compositions with vocal samples. 3rd one is more in Saafi Brothers style, deep & dark. Next two are hard trancy & dynamic, but with quiet dub influences. 6th track is only different, shorter version of first track. 7th one is a little electro, breakbeat chilling tune. Next one is great full of mystical energy, hypnotic, just to dance with the full moon. "Heart.Beat." is dark ambient, a little mysterious track. "one O'Seven" also good, lot of guitar, nice female vocals, everything is so chilling & relaxing there. Album is closing with funky-dub ambient tune. If You like dub influences in ambient music this album is for Yu, it's better in this case than "Gab's Gift" . Lot of highest quality tracks (1,3,6,8,9,10,11), lot of experienced work. Try it. 8,5/
freak51
Nice and warm. However, it doesn't hurt to pull it out and put something else in the CD player. I must have listened "Full Moon" 100 times a couple of summers ago. (we love to dance, to dance, to dance ...). I think GLM is a bit lost without the other guys in the Saafi Brothers though. vOrTeXdReAm
"One O'Seven" is beautiful, containing a superb guitar melody. "Little Homesick" and "Homesick Blue" are okay, but I'm not sure about the rest... The other tracks are a bit too fast - sounds like a mixture of Techno/House and Trance vibes... It doesn't really contain the same Chill/Dub feeling as "One O'Seven" does... Average album.
Guest heierli[at]library.ethz[dot]ch
I like this CD. Some of the tracks i've heard live in Zürich (Gabriel Le Mar is Resident-DJ from Dekadance). Gab's Lab is experimental Sound with psychedelic (sometimes industrial) influences, guitars and female vocals. Very beautiful ambience. Good for chilling in the bedroom after a party. My favourite tracks on this cd are Error Minus 666 (dark sound with acid lines), Heart.Beat (a mysterious experimental chill-out-track), One O'Seven (beautiful female vocals) and Slo Mo (perfect Lounge-Sound). It's a very good work, but Gab's Gift is better (more lovely). 8/
