ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE! GET THIS CD! this is one of the most original and unique

psytrance recordings i've ever heard. the whole album is such a seemless

flowing trip. some of their later stuff is of the more minimal mold [but still

good], but this stuff ain't. quite complex when broken down, it is done sooo

well. if you like your squelshing acid lines, strong baselines, and amazing

beat-layering along with perfect sampling you'll love this cd. beautifully

dark and very sinister in parts, this is one of the great psyctrance cds. best

track is probably 'Psycho'. damn it rocks! i remember hearing this track out a

couple of years ago...damn it was good. and saw the Mushies live about a year

ago. very good. i'll say it again - buy this cd! you won't regret it. 100/100

Ahhh Infected owns. This is the best from Infected Mushroom, and probably the

best album in my collection. Just great. I bought classical mushroom before

this; I thought it was great, but now when I bought this I understood that

it's not so great compared to this The Gathering ROCKS. I gave 10/10 to

classical mushroom so I have to give 11/10 to this. Favourites: Release Me!!,

The Gathering!!!, Return of the shadows!, Blue Muppet!, Psycho!, Montoya

(Rmx)!, Tommy The Bat!!, Virtual Voyage!!, Over Mode!!! As you see from my

!-count I like The Gathering and Over Mode the most, those songs just ROCK.

I really dont agree here! IF u where listning to IM back then u might see it in a different light!

This was truely something different from anything else released! It is a masterpiece in terms of production and sound, nobody in this era did surpass them IMHO! I got this cd when I went to Thailand with some friends in 99 and we had a stop in Tel Aviv and got outside the airport (by accident), I found this in a cd store (inside the airport actually ) and was totally blown away when I heard it... Can remember when I took it back to my friends at first they thought it was weird, but after a bit everybody was hooked! What a quality release my personal favorite together with Classical! Ahh the layers

 

I can't see any of the releases after BP empire (maybe not even that aah just kidding) as masterpieces, Infected Mushrooms had their musical peak when they where fresh and full of new ideas

I'd say The Gathering along with Classical Mushroom are their best releases. I can understand why somebody listening to The Gathering today for the first time might not like it, it's not aged as well as Infected Mushroom's other albums but it holds so many memories I can't help but love it.

Sometimes you're only confronted with an album years after its' release and you wonder: If I dodged the bullet back then why does it have to come back and haunt me now?!?

 

What surprises me most with IM is that even most old skool psyfans praise their earlier works. What's so amazing? Not that I can't detect talent behind TG. Off course, but with an ever imminent cheesy touch lurking around I can never relax and just enjoy TG. What will it be next to spoil the mood? A stupid high pitched Mickey Mouse voice, a cheesy sample (Release Me's "Die", "Psycho" at 5:01 etc), an annoying KILLARGH part, or a Steve Vai sounding guitar section (examples are legio, but the classic example is Blue Muppet at 5:56).

 

Sad, really, but despite occasional plusses this sums up to two fat thumbs down. IM Sorry. IM really sorry!

I am writing this one here and I thought it just happened yesterday.

It was 1999 right and things where changing.

I went to the usual record shop and the guy was recommended me something special to listen.

I tried it but I didn't like it at the beginning.

I was so fool.Two days later I get back and buy it because this was one of the best psytrance album of this year.

Release Me (Damn I don't know if this creature talking here I wanted it to be released!)

The Gathering (Come on guys let's have a gathering!)

Blue Muppet (Oh yes keep it dark and funky please. Let's Rock Guys!)

Psycho the 'smash you', unbelievable funky psytrance track with so much distorted hihats, who even listening it's bassline you want to dance like nobody's watching! You.....PSYCHO!

 

Thank you guys for 'opening my mind'!

After listening to this again at high volume in the dark and dancing like no one is watching... this confirms my suspicion that this is the best album ever. From the incredibly relaxing yet psychedelic (and somehow trying to be cheesy but isn't?) blue muppet to the moving psycho to the mindblowing and dark virtual voyage (the second breakdown is perhaps the most energetic moment ever as well) this is an amazing album with few if no flaws.

let me note that it does take less idiotic reservation (what's cheesy to those independence day samples anyway? how can a sample even be "cheesy"?) (maybe read to much pienews ) towards certain aspects of psytrance to really appreciate it's eventual undefinable glory.
