Ceiba : 1+1=1 Review: cd1 is excellent stuff. it takes a while for your mind to absorb and realise this (well it did for me) - there are some very involved songs in there. all extremely psychedelic and driving with some moments to recover and recollect, then on with the show!! some really mindbending stuff in there - it gets hectic. 8.5/10 cd 2 is slightly more mellow (starting with a nice mellowish song). to me it sounds kinda evil and hard. but makes for interesting listening anyhow. 6.5/10 Quote
freak51 Posted March 30, 2000 Posted March 30, 2000 Blecch. The second disc is totally useless, as far as I can tell, and the first is iffy. For God's sake Goa Gil, if you MUST mix the tracks at least learn to beat-match. The fades are awful. Quote
Guest Ktaadn Posted April 4, 2000 Posted April 4, 2000 Burningman is perhaps the finest annual trance event in the US -- conceptually and musically it's a weeekend that simply MUST happen. Such a shame then; Burningman deserves a better tribute than this. To euphemize, Goa Gil's set lacks fluidity. Can the listener really achieve a trance when the tracks run all over each other? I know he's been a massive supporter of Goa-trance since before the beginning, but as a DJ his sets seem thrown together carelessly. There are some dandies on here for sure -- the Bamboo Forest and Oforia tracks are among my current favorites (but then t.ñ Quote
Guest adp028[at]mail[dot]usask[dot]ca Posted April 4, 2000 Posted April 4, 2000 First off, to the review above, Gil was obviously mixing on DAT's so it's not going to be as smooth as vinyl. Trust Gil, he knows what he's doing. As far as the second disc being totally useless...The fist track, entitled 23 degrees under the sun, is one of the greatest trance tracks ever to be released, and quite possibly the best piece of trance to come out of America. I have turned dozens of people on to trance by playing this track to them. So divine, it is even recognized by the masses as a masterpiece. This is real trance music, timeless, not that corny bullshit we've grown accustomed to in the mainstream party scene that is labelled "trance" when its really just bad melodic techno. The sample on 1+1=1 is worth the cost of both discs combined. Philosophical trance, intended for the blowing of the mind. Respect to Gil and Ceiba records for this brilliant release. Quote
Guest goa tacks Posted July 6, 2001 Posted July 6, 2001 Real Trance Music Indeed (agree with abave review.) Everybody should respect the trance music really from these producers/musicians. Gil, no explanation, Ceiba (Kode IV as Peter from Ceiba Records, and Adam O'hana as a head of American trance music distributer.) If you love this, you willl also love other "Language of Light" series from Ceiba Records. Must Have CD, this is a History of Trance music, and Burning Man Festival. It wiill be an art history book in a few hundred years from now...100/100 Quote
Guest this lost penguin Posted March 21, 2002 Posted March 21, 2002 The Pleiadians track is particularly well executed! Quote
